Extinguishable lighting

In Oblivion I always liked to make a stealth character and enjoyed sneaking around dungeons on missions as if I was playing a stealth game. It would be much better, especially at an earlier level when sneak is low, if we could approach certain light sources and put them out. For example, if a guard is on a set patrol path and I want to steal something in the light, I could put out the torch or candle while he's not looking and take it and still be hidden in the dark when he turns around. It would also raise their new suspicion levels if they see lights that were lit being put out when they come back, and when they move in to investigate you'll have already crept away before they can relight it or just take em out.
I was thinking it could work like how it's done in the "Thief" game series. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xcNeaButEWg&feature=fvst
Not with "water arrows" of course, but maybe using regular arrows to take out some candles or small torches that are lighting up a hallway or corridor.
Let me know what you think.

I loved the mod in oblivion that allowed this! Water arrows tyeah! and the cool thing is that the developers of skyrim, in one of the interviews, took note of that mod and said they liked it. We could possibly see this.

That would be great, but only if we could then re-light the light source somehow, perhaps with some kind of flint and steel or a magic spell or something.

Guess the dev is either too young to know, or has never heard of Thief?

On a general note: I've seen a lot of these posts with things seen in other games, and a lot of them are in The Witcher 2...

If something like this will be put in the game, I think a simple put out and re-light option would suffice. Flint and steel would just be tedious and unnecessary.

Metro 2033 did this very well. If they did it, I'm sure Bethesda can.

I'm all for this. I never played Thief 3 but I played a tenchu game that let you put out lanterns with water, it was quit fun.

That's kinda funny because Emil Pagliarulo (HA! Spelled from memory!) was formerly a dev for Thief games.

Is that the same dev in the interview GothObservationist was referring to? Now I understand why he likes the idea, he may have come up with it originally :)

If you like fighting, not a game for you.
If you like stealth, suspense, gritty, scary... play it. GREAT game.

THIEF was a great game. And I heard many of the guys who worked on THEIF were working on Oblivion, so I had my hopes up. But I was sadly disapointed the sneaking wasnt any better.

It wasnt any better than the sneaking system in THEIF.

I've found no real use for sneaking in morrowind, even tho my char is a Assasin.

Of course it won't be any better than Thief's. It's Thief! Was Thief 4 released, already, by the way?

I vaguely remember it being said you can put out lights in Skyrim.

Oh, sneak was much better than it had been in Morrowind. Sneak actually became useful again in Oblivion. From the articles this week, it says sneak has been improved even more so :celebration:

I guess the poll makes it clear: there is NO ONE against that idea lol.

If it's implemented, I just hope guards put ON the lights again though. 1) it would allow for a nice distraction and 2) it would keep the cities from staying dark for the rest of the game

I'm seeing an awesome scenario like from The Godfather 2. Vito twists the bulb in the light so it goes out. Guy goes to check it and BOOM!! Vito paints the walls with the guys brains. It would be awesome if baddies would investigate lights that go out only to be snuffed out themselves!

I think this would be a good idea, especially for things like candles; but I also think there should still be some lights that are either harder or impossible to put out, like the crystals in Ayleid ruins from Oblivion.
