Eye Problem?

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 1:08 pm

Hey everyone,

I am having some eye issues. In both character creation and on NPCs, certain eyes colors will mess up and the eye will not not be "aligned" right, like the iris will be shifted in a weird direction and the eye won't look normal. I first noticed it as I said in character creation and wouldn't have minded it (since there were many more eyes to choose from) but since it affects NPCs (and I came across quite a few just in a quick test run) it is sort of annoying. Here is my load order:

It might be TNR Races... Does it use its own eye mesh?

To be honest I'm not sure, when I downloaded it it came as a pre-made OMOD with no readme, so I didn't even get to see what files/folders it contained. But wouldn't any problems like that get worked out in the bashed patch?

Beautiful People does cause black and googly eyes, run BOSS and rebuild your Bashed Patch after you remove this mod from your install, and the MMM Resized Races should also be merged into your Bashed Patch.
I do not know if you are using the light version of RBP, but make sure you read the HTML file included in the download, bg2408 covers this in the readme.

Nah, TNR doesn't touch eye options.

The issue is caused by running both Beautiful People and the full version of Race Balancing Project. BP replaces the default eye mesh with a different one, so all of RBP's eye options go wonky because their textures are made for the default eye mesh.I'd suggest dropping BP.

That's what I would do. You still have plenty of cosmetic options with RBP full.

Yes, RBP works better with an FCOM install.
There is a way to get around the eye mesh issues, but I can not remeber how to do it.

Best not to use BP anymore (as has been said), it's way out of date and you can accomplish more or less the same thing with RBP and TNR.

Ahh I screwed up.....so I manually uninstalled BP (manually installed it like a fool) and I'm almost 100% certain that I removed all of the correct files, but now all of the eyes are black regardless of color (except the funky ones that are on the non-vanilla races from other mods) and naturally the mystic elves and what not are all black. Instead of removing all of those files should I have just unchecked the BP .esp file and then remade my bashed patch? I have the files still so I'll probably re-install just to make sure everything returns normally and then take it again from there.

edit: no no....seems I'm just a moron and removed all the textures and the .esp without removing the meshes or sound or compatibility patch....ill update if this fixes things!

Alright, so I manually uninstalled, loaded up, most of the eyes were fine but the vanilla eyes were black (along with maybe some others) and the races like Skyrim Khajit were just blank or black (which is expected but it doesn't seem like a very clean uninstall.....). So I re-installed the mod, everything is back to what it was, what should I do from here? If you guys were to approach this, what would you do in order to make the changes necessary to fix the eye problem without causing other issues?

Thanks, sorry to be a pain!

Deactivate the BP esp. If you see Skyrim Khajiit in the race selection screen, that means you didn't deactivate the esp.

If I had only OBMM and wanted to uninstall BP, I'd make an omod out of it, activate, then deactivate it.

To create an omod out of an archive, click "Create", then "Add archive", select your BP archive, fill in the fields you can be bothered to, then click "Create omod" and let OBMM do its thing - might take a while, so don't panic if OBMM temporarily freezes. Activate your new omod and let it overwrite everything it wants to (Ctrl+click Yes = "Yes to All"). Then deactivate it. You'll probably have to reinstall RBP after doing that. (If RBP and BP share some files, OBMM will have deleted those when uninstalling BP.)

Really good idea, never thought to create an OMOD out of BP and then install it/uninstall it. Maybe I should just do that so everything is nice and clean. Right now I just deactivated the BP .esp and it fixed all of the vanilla race's eyes, but the custom races (like the sea elf and things) still had the weird eyes. I went back and found the original MMM file that the BP compatibility patch overwrites and placed that back in, so right now I'm rebuilding my patch to see if that will fix the rest of my issues. If it does I may just leave things be, but if it doesn't I'll probably just use your idea in creating the OMOD, installing, uninstalling, and then freshly installing RBP.

Thanks for the idea =)

edit: Yeah it didn't work, gonna try the omod thing in the morning!

Wrye Bash has an option that will help you sort out cosmetic conflicts. Just click Race Records when you build your bashed patch. It does have limits, but will solve most such problems by sorting eyes and hair by race so there are no conflicts.

What if the problem persists even after rebuilding your bashed patch? If you are using the Cobl version of TNR...just humor me. Try uninstalling that part IF the following specific symptoms are persisting. The Emperor and Capt Reynaud in the tutorial have messed up eyes. Palonirya, the elf who runs the clothing store in the Imperial City has messed up eyes. See if it goes away.

Actually that is where I first noticed it, Captain Renault and the Emperor do have messed up eyes (I have been using the "Race Records" feature of the bashed patch since I started with no luck from that). I will go in game in a second to hunt down Paloniya and check if those eyes are screwed up too, but I'm assuming they will be if the other two are!

So I am going to try to uninstall....the Cobl version of TNR? Will that also cure the eye problems in the new races in character gen. if it works?

BP uses Elaborate Eyes, which are eyes with a changed UV layout and texture to allow each eye to have its own UV space on a single texture. This is done to allow heterochromia to those who wanted the eye choices, as originally the vanilla meshes shared the same UV space on the original textures.

So if you want to run RBP and BP, you will need the EE equivalents of the RBP eye meshes and textures. Also, as everyone else has said, BP is outdated - If you don't mind having some anime-based races, eyes, and hair choices, MBP++ is regarded as the most up-to-date version of BP and quite possibly the best race/hair/eye compilation out there.

Hmm, I'd like to check out MBP++ but I don't know what that stands for  I'm just sort of at a stand still at how I should approach this in terms of getting rid of BP without causing other problems for myself, if I installed BP as an OMOD and then used OBMM to uninstall, then re-installed RBP, would I be in good shape to just install MBP++ without causing more issues?

Or, if I install/uninstall BP using an OMOD and then just re-install RBP without doing anything else, I should be all set in terms of everything being normal again right? Because I can live without MBP++ if it'll be a lot of work to get it running smoothly, the only reason I got BP was because I stumbled across that "TOTO" Oblivion page (but I'm assuming that must be out-dated for the most part?)

edit: I actually left out the "++" when I searched MBP the first time, is this what you are referring too? http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=37368

Yeah, that's the one. Massive expansion of BP, and regularly updated.

MBP++ will cause the same issues as BP since it also replaces the default eye mesh with Elaborate Eye meshes. Any other mod that adds eye choices needs textures made for EE or they won't look right.

You have to either choose between BP and RBP or do some legwork of your own and replace RBP's eye textures with ones made for EE. They're Capucine's eyes, right? You can grab textures converted for EE http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=24171.

And what's that about a Cobl TNR? Do you mean RBP's NPC Diversity module? That one just distributes RBP eye choices to NPCs, so of course if RBP's eye textures don't match the eye meshes, NPCs will get assigned googly eyes. But even if you deactivated that plugin, you'd still get useless googly eye options in the character creation screen. There's also no need to use both TNR and NPC Diversity when you could use the NPC Diversity - TNR merge plugin.

Alright thanks wyndchyme, I think I may just try to cleanly uninstall BP and then re-install RBP, I'm not really skilled enough modding wise to tinker with MBP++ to get it working correctly and I'm not a huge anime fan so the MBP++ screenshots didn't really do much for me anyways. Hopefully getting rid of BP and the re-installing RBP will fix everything, if not :banghead: ;)

I kept the races themselves, but uninstalled the other Cobl race tweaks other than the cosmetic resource pack required for the races. It worked for me. Rebuilt my bashed patch with the Race Records again and could tell right in the tutorial that had fixed it. Works fine in the character creation screen. The merged plugin caused me the same problem with Palonirya etc described in this thread. BP caused me a lot of problems so I uninstalled it ages ago. MBP 2ch ++ is too "cute" anime for me so I haven't even tried it.

It's theoretically possible to have all existing eye meshes in the same game if you sort them by race. Probably not worth it for most people, though.

I ended up completely removing BP and the compatibility patches, then re-installed RBP completely. So far it seems like I'm in the clear, the vanilla eyes are normal, and the added ones are good for the most part (some seem to have some 'shadows' near the upper eye but I can't tell if that's how they are supposed to be, either way I can live with it), and the new races are completely gone with the ones added from RBP (like the sea elf and Xilia) still there with functioning eyes.

Thanks for all the help everyone!

Glad to hear you have it all working now. Congrats. :)

As for the shadows, some of the custom eyes I have seen have an intentional shadow that is supposed to be a shadow from the eyelashes. I don't personally like the effect much but that may be because I am not using skins with eyeshadow and lipstick, etc.

This might be kind if unecessary to say now, since it seems like you've solved your problem... But, I myself had what I believe is the exact same problem, and my solution (well not really my solution) in the and was to use the CS and just asign the eyes that were working for those races which had those weird eyes. Anyway, you can take a look at http://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php?/topic/378400-eyes-problem/page__p__3110054__fromsearch__1#entry3110054 if you want to. :frog:
