Facial Hair

That's because Oblivion didn't have beards like we would imagine them. It was just that god awful slider that made it look like you had some weak 5 o'clock shadow.

And made my body purple...

Was I the only one?

Other, because the 5 o'clock shadow in Oblivion svcked and didn't even count, and the Fallout beards didn't quite look right. If Bethesda really is using a new engine they will probably fix this... Oh yeah and capes.

Nope, you're not the only one, part of my neck and torso went from grey, to blueish, to almost violet/purple...

That was horrible. :yuck:

Facial hair should just grow out periodically and it's up to the player to determine how much will stay and what style to style it into. This would give it a more realistic feel. This might be a little meticulous, however, what if the amount and density of facial hair is determined by race? I always thought Elves with beards looked kind of goofy.

I hope we get to pick from a big list like fallout but with a length slider for the facial hair as well.

Well judging by the teaser we can have rediculous flowing mustaches, so a big beard is not out of the question.

Oblivion had no facial hair, it just had a slider that made ur chin-mouth region look toasted.

I want big beards.

Other of course.
Why else is new technology being developed for this game if not for epic beards?
and I want a beard with physics, to go along with drinking ale with physics, as the ale runs down my beard.
...and may as well bring back the true shadows on everything, including my beard, just because.

Physics and clipping will probably restrict us to beards http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/b3/KoosDeLaRey.jpg at maximum. Still, that would be better than oblivion's face paint that turns your torso purple.

Unless Bethesda got their tech really done up well and have realistic clothing and hair physics.

I really, really want that to happen.

Wouldn't have to be that realistic. Just make it a bit ragdoll, make it not be able to cross into your body more than a little bit and give it some movement resistance. That should make it work well enough for beards up to, say, mid-chest length.

Voted Other:

Not only do I want beards... I want customizable beards. Big beards. Small mustaches. Curly-cues. Wax tips. Berserker Wild-man Growth. And to take it a step further... I want them to have physics, not this same old outdated -stiff- hair crap that The Elder Scrolls has suffered with now for two games. Hair physics should apply not only to hair, but also beards... and it should be gorgeous!

By this point in time, there's no excuse for ugly rigid hairstyles anymore... not in games that allow any modicum of character customization. We've all seen that games can have awesome looking hair, beards, and faces. Time for TES to raise the bar.

I'm not so worried about the facial hair however I think Hilda the Barbarian shouldn't have to have waxed legs and underarms - just for once she should be able to relax and let her hair grow.

My bearded Oblivion character always looked like he had been huffing paint.

I would like to toss my hat into the beard length slider ring. It's a must.

I don't see how you could possibly do Skyrim justice without allowing for proper beards, so yes, we definately need that. But I don't doubt thatr Bethesda will do it, Oblivion lacking proper beards, I suspect, is because Bethesda hadn't figured out how to get it to work with their face generation system, but Fallout 3 obviously fixed that problem, so I see no reason why Bethesda would take a step back.

I don't doubt that there will be proper beards, the real question is, how much customization will we have with them? In Fallout 3, all that we could really do with beards was choose from a set list of styles, and aside from changing the color of the beard along with hair color, there wasn't much room for customization beyond beard style, but maybe new technology in Skyrim will allow for more customization in this regard, we'll see.

Skyrim is all about beards, and fur, and busty women, and ale, and bad language and smacking an elf with a big axe.

If they do not include a good customize system the 'masses' will revolt.

While on the topic of Face Gen, do you guys think they will stay with fantasy style faces, or go after more realistic faces? (Fallout) I really hope they make face features sharper, especially on elves then I might actually consider playing a Bosmer. And should elves be able to have facial hair? I think it'd look quite silly.

Tookeded my idear. Shame on you.

Oops missed that.

With this new engine I expect we'll be seeing quite an improvement in the faces, and since there are going to be so many Nords they must be doing something cool with beards. I hope we'll get to see some faces in the Game Informer magazine.

And should elves be able to have facial hair? I think it'd look quite silly.

They did http://images.uesp.net//e/ee/MW-NPC-Brallion.jpg http://images.uesp.net//2/2e/MW-npc-BolvynVenimFull.jpg.

I don't think I've ever seen them on Altmer in MW though.

If I can't rock a ZZ Top beard, I'm not buying it.

Okay, that's a little excessive..but unless the razor has suddenly become vogue in Skyrim, I expect we'll have beards in this one.
