Faction Choices

Post » Sat May 17, 2014 6:04 pm

Thanks to some guys on the forum (Mostly JNeilWix), I've come up with my character; here he is:

Lucas Marco

Race: Imperial

Attributes: Endurance, Intelligence

Birth Sign: The Atronach

Major Skills: Long Blade

Destruction

Light Armor

Block

Mysticism

Minor Skills: Restoration

Enchant

Alchemy

Alteration

Conjuration

Lucas grew up in the Bravil, which he hated; his father was a skooma dealer, and he was constantly abuse.

He was finally kicked out of his own home, when he was 10.

He was taken in by the Casle Mage, where he learned his magical skills.

He joined the City Watch as it's first battlemage.

At 30, he saw his father doing Skooma with some of his MEN, and he snapped, burning them all alive.

He distrusts the beast races because he was scared of them as a child, and had to deal with them constantly as a guard.

He distrusts nords because his mother was [censored] by a Nord.

He developed severe PDST when he killed his own men and his father.

Ok, now that that giant prelude is out of the way, I want to know, what factions should my Imperial join?

He is a staunch defender of the Imperial Mission in Morrowind.

He does not generally trust beast races, or nords.

He generally dislikes The Tribunal, having read the Thirty-Six Lessons, thinking that they are appalling.

He worships the Nine Divines, especially Talos.

He can get over his racial prejudices or others if he find's an individual honorable, or if there are larger things at stake.

He is a loyal subject of the Empire, without question.

Well, what factions should he join?

:thanks:

Well, first question... did he murder his father, or was he wrongly accused?

Obviously the Blades, if you're going to play the MQ...

Based on his race and background:

  • The Imperial Cult seems natural...
  • Maybe the Imperial Legion also....

Based on his strengths:

  • Fighters guild
  • Mages guild

A lot depends on the real story behind the murder of Lucas's father and how you intend to play the character....

If Lucas mistrusts the beast races, how will he react to the slave trade in Morrowind? Twin Lamps may be contrary to his character....

Tell me some more about his character and mental makeup...

So, after your edits, I'll stand by my original recommendations...

I'd say that it sounds like the thieves guild is something that Lucas would avoid. Also, sounds like he wouldn't see eye to eye with the Tribunal Temple.

Twin Lamps is a toss up, I suppose. If I recall correctly, isn't slavery outlawed in the Empire? So Lucas's mistrust of the beast races could form an interesting interplay with his need uphold law and order...

I see the Morag Tong as being equally conflicted. The Empire likely views the Morag Tong as tolerable only in Morrowind where it is culturally acceptable. It's likely they would not tolerate it elsewhere in the Empire. (Someone with better Lore knowledge may want to step in and correct me if I'm wrong about this...or anything else. :) ) But he's also someone who murdered his father....out of a sense of what was right??? I suppose I could see Lucas taking on contracts for the MT if he considers them Justified, but a devoted worshiper of the Nine might have issues with a group that worships Mephala too.... Hmmmmmmm.....

I wouldn't say he thought it was right; he hadn't seen his father in years, and seeing him doing the same stuff...he just kinda lost it.

Well, it sounds to me like he probably would consider the MT little more than contract killers who worship a false god....

How about a Great House? Sounds like he would fit best into House Hlaalu, but could also have some respect for Redoran ways, other than their support of the Temple....

This info is from UESP Wiki...
Favored Skills: Light Armor, Marksman, Mercantile, Short Blade, Security, Speechcraft.
House Hlaalu Ranks:
Rank Required Attributes Required Skills
0. Hireling Speed 30 Agility 30
1. Retainer Speed 30 Agility 30 One skill at 10
2. Oathman Speed 30 Agility 30 One skill at 20
3. Lawman Speed 30 Agility 30 One skill at 30 and two at 5
4. Kinsman Speed 30 Agility 30 One skill at 40 and two at 10
5. House Cousin Speed 31 Agility 31 One skill at 50 and two at 15
6. House Brother Speed 32 Agility 32 One skill at 60 and two at 20
7. House Father Speed 33 Agility 33 One skill at 70 and two at 25 (must have stronghold)
8. Councilman Speed 34 Agility 34 One skill at 80 and two at 30
9. Grandmaster Speed 35 Agility 35 One skill at 90 and two at 35
Your character has the light Armor...and that will progress nicely as long as you wear it and get in fights... The rest are, for your character, Misc Skills, but Mercantile, and Speechcraft are both possible to advance through normal play w/o being out of character...

Lucas should meet the Hireling requirements at Level 1. So I think you'll be fine.... You'll just have to be sure to advance his speed and agility to go through the ranks.... Light Armor will be the one high level skill, the two at levels shouldn't present a problem either as long as you barter and persuade/bribe somewhat... As an Imperial, he'll have a +10 bonus to speechcraft anyway.

Some other things from UESPWiki:

The House is largely concerned with business and diplomacy, seeking to strengthen ties with at times unconventional allies such as the Empire, and although profit is often a primary objective, traditional Hlaalu practice recognizes the value of a good reputation over money. This is their great strength - they are fast talkers and intelligent traders - and their great liability; most Hlaalu are bribable, either with gold or with other favors, with their leaders as no exception. House Hlaalu retainers are also masters of thievery, sneaking, lock-picking, blackmailing and backstabbing, both literal and metaphorical. While some councilors are honest and fair, others are more under-handed and corrupt. However, House Hlaalu's most distinguishing characteristic is its willingness to live in harmony with the other races, setting it apart from the other, occasionally xenophobic, Dunmer Great Houses.

As a result of its close relationship with the Imperial administration, House Hlaalu has emerged as politically and economically dominant among the Great Houses of Vvardenfell and Morrowind. Hlaalu welcomes Imperial culture and law, Imperial Legions and bureaucracy, and Imperial freedom of trade and religion. Hlaalu still honors the old Dunmer ways -- the ancestors, the Temple, and the noble houses -- but has readily adapted to the rapid pace of change and progress in the Imperial provinces. Unlike the other Great Houses, which are largely hostile to non-Dunmer, House Hlaalu aspires to live in peace and harmony with the other races, and to share in the growth and prosperity of the Empire. Hlaalu public buildings -- tradehouses and craft guilds, manors and council halls -- are designed as simple multi-storied buildings roughly rectangular in plan, featuring arched entranceways and modest decorated exteriors. More modest one-story private dwellings follow the same plan, except with less decoration. Hlaalu plantation estates resemble Temple compounds, with walled precincts enclosing outbuildings for craftsmen and servants, dominated by a grand manor residence in place of a Temple shrine.

Thanks a lot. I think I've figured out my factions:

-Imperial Legion

-Mages' Guild

-Imperial Cult

-House Hlaalu

-The Blades

I'll be alternating between Morrowind and Skyrim throughout the summer.

:thanks: Again.

I'm curious, is there any particular reason you decided against the fighters' guild?

I've done the fighter's guild to death, so I probably won't do that in a while.
