Faction Idea; The Rangers

Post » Sat Aug 14, 2010 10:39 am

As with the four other guilds, I also want a competitor/rival for these rangers. Located in towns, called the hunters guild, which is there to fill the need for meat based foodstuffs. Nothing deep at all. So all the (now five) major guilds have an easy access easy to find in town version, and a counterpart typically of more seriousness which may not be that easy to find.
Fighters Guild vs Knights Guild.
Mages Guild vs Whisperers Guild.
Thieves Guild vs Robin Hood Guild.
Morag Tong vs Dark Brotherhood.
Hunters Guild vs Rangers Guild.

This seems like a neat idea. I would love to play as a ranger type character.

If something like this is not included in vanilla I sure as hell should be one of the premier mods out there once the modding community gets rolling

One of the best ideas I've seen on these forums. Well done. If it can't be implemented in the game now, it certainly could be made into a mod. OOO had something along these lines for Oblivion.

I would love to be a ranger that fights of hunters and people that want to destroy the ecosystem. I probably sound like a hippie now, which is not the case, I'm just saying I would love to plan skirmishes and stuff that are guerilla tactics. Guerilla tactics work awesome in forest areas and all that, what would be even better, was if the rangers faction has an amulet for each member that allows you to be with wolves and bears and etc. It would be awesome if, because of these amulets, the animals help us fight, that would be so awesome. This faction would be the first one I join if it is put into Skyrim.

I planned playing as a ranger kinda character from day 1 after skyrim was announced :D so hell yeah man, great idea, would love a ranger guild. I have always loved the scene in the return of the king when ithilien rangers ambushes a huge pack of enemies heading for Mordor. The capes, the bows, the mystic feel the rangers have living in the wilderness. And their amazing archer and swordsman skill makes them brave and fierce. Once again a good idea my friend :foodndrink:

Rangers are already fighting the Imperial Legion. They are already hunters: how would you have an entire other guild that does the exact same thing and still offer unique gameplay? Also... Knights? Robin hood Guild?

*Cough* Knights of the White Stallion *Cough*

are you sick or something? haha I agree they should bring that name over, but you would actually be able to.... you know... do something? haha

I would love a ranger faction! Man... all the possibilites.. hunting, looking for rare plants, sniping people with your bow (succeed and you get an extra bonus) yaaaaaaayz!

Oh they wouldn't offer the same things, more like "player have to make a choosing to get what he wants the most". Don't worry about the names, they're simplified for identification of their "style". I would hate it myself if something was named Robin Hood Guild :D
* Fighters Guild vs Knights Guild: Fighters are the local militia and fancied by commoners, knights are the organized ones and liked by the wealthy.
* Mages Guild vs Whisperers Guild: Mages are the "low yield" entry stuff found in cities, whisperers could be necromancer lairs or those doing dark magic.
* Thieves Guild vs Robin Hood Guild: Thieves how they were in DF (no morals, deal with freelancers), Robin Hood what they became in OB (steal from the wealthy, located in wild)
* Morag Tong vs Dark Brotherhood: Organized and legalized vs the sheer Brutality gang.
* Hunters Guild vs Rangers Guild: Hunters hunt for food and that's basically it.

So if you join Fighters Guild, the Knights Guild would hate you and not let you in and vice versa, as they have issues with each other. Typically the first one listed is what you might expect to find in towns. By joining them you may be on better standpoint with the locals, but the reward from them might be kinda small. Join the right one for better rewards, but it may be harder being liked by the poor and commoners.

Ignore the quest numbers, was just illustrating the use of exponential growth to make it harder and harder, requiring true devotion.

Jesus, I hope a game-developer sees this. Sounds awesome.

And +1 to OP for a good, well thought out idea.

Dunedain Rangers and Ithilien Rangers much?
The Rangers in Lord of the Rings basically do exactly what you've described. Mainly Aragorn and the Northern Dunedain however, since the Ithilien Rangers where mainly soldiers defending the borderlands of Gondor.

I've roleplayed my character as a Dunedain through Morrowind and Oblivion so I plan on doing the same in Skyrim>

Great ideas. You really thought this out. Only thing I don't like is I would prefer a more interesting name than "Ranger's Guild". Sounds like another generic fantasy class like "thief" and "mage". I'd like more creative names, I guess.

In Balmora I think the Morag Tong were having turf wars with the Thieves Guild correct me if I'm wrong.
AND PLEASE BETHESDA STOP GIVING GUILDS SUCH CHEESY NAMES. The Theives Guild, Mages Guild, Fighters guild HELL why not call the Dark Brotherhood the "Assassins Guild" RANT OVER Sorry to lower the tone its been something I've hated for years.

I love the idea of a hunting faction for sure, and the idea of their guild bases being in the forests away from settlemants is a nice touch.
However I dont get the rest of what your saying sorry... if its a hunting faction I feel it should stay that way and be nothing more, why would you need to hunt and track down enemy suply caravans for if all the guild is suposed to be about is hunting the wild life?
