Factions - Who Will They Be?

Post » Thu Nov 26, 2015 12:24 pm

My biggest curiosity right now lays with what the factions will be. Not so much the minor factions, but the major ones and how many of them there will be. When I look back at Fallout 3, having 2 factions was nice but you could really only play for 1 most of the game and then make a final decision near the end. In New Vegas, there were 3 distinct factions (4 if you include no faction), you came across each one and were able to make a choice, maybe more than once, in various parts.

So what is the deal now? I really hope that this is one of the lessons Bethesda learned from Obsidian. Having multiple choices, especially with factions, really helps bring a person into the game world and actually feel like a part of it, even if that part is ultimately little impact in the grand scheme of things.

What is the presence of the Brotherhood of Steel like?
What about the Enclave?
Is there another governing faction like the NCR (called, the Commonwealth)

What role does The Institute have (speculating they are separate major faction?)

Who else could there be?

Damn, I'm just really excited for this story. I hope it lives up to the standard New Vegas set, and the game world lives up to the exploration standard that Fallout 3 set.

I really hope that the BOS & Enclave have been retired. There's so much opportunity for new factions; Institute, anti-Institute, whatever else has emerged from the Mass Wastelands.

(The trailer seems to have made a point of showing us familiar things... I hope that's just marketing and not an indication that we're going to see the same stuff again)

No, having 2 (really only 1) faction in Fallout 3 was not nice. In fact it really ruins the game for me. I will be extremely disappointed if they don't take Obsidian's example and give an array of very different factions (both major and minor) for us to work with. I feel like it's going to be mainly between the Institute and the BoS. I just hope that there's more to it than that.

Do we even have any confirmation of the Brotherhood of Steel? I'd prefer for them to not show up at all, really.

They have been far too overused. Black Isle/Obsidian themselves have treated them as basically irrelevant shells of their former selves in FO2 and NV.

honestly by now they kinda reach posterboy status, not including them by now is kinda like having a Mario game without goombas or those koopa turtles.

As much as I love the Enclave I would rather them be mentioned in regards to the past then actually see an Enclave presence.

Now I hope and demand we see some form of BoS presence. Seriously, I could fan boy that faction nonstop. I love them. Just so long as their not the "white-knight" good guys like in F3.

I agree. Their presence in Fallout 3 is just so stupid, but I do believe they will be in this new game. If it's The Institute vs. The Railroad, they better be fighting about something more than android freedom.

Most likely, the next FO is going to feature the Institute as the antagonist faction, and probably BoS to fight them, with no choice but to side with the Brotherhood.

Ugh pls no. I hated that in FO3. You can either side with the BoS and essentially let them usurp your father's work for political gain or be the world's most idiotic perpetrator of genocide.

No in between of course -_-

I wouldn't mind the Enclave being like in NV. Maybe a few of their bunkers could be found and looted for some nice kit and more history on them? They should at least be mentioned.

Well...purely speculation...

We have the Commonwealth, probably a smattering of BOS and Enclave forces...Well, Enclave Remnant, anyway...

The Institute is probably deeply tied to the Commonwealth...And may have conflict with the BOS, possibly...Makes sense to me.

That's really all past knowledge and the trailer would have me think. Of course, that can't be all, but not much more you can get from a brief trailer.

Personally...When I saw those high tech blimps...?

I want Techno Air Pirates...

EVeryone wants Enclave and BoS to retire, to be honest, I kinda like them. But new factions would be refreshing for sure, so I'd rather that. i like enclave more than brotherhood

I wouldn't speak for EVERYONE. Just wouldn't be a Fallout game without the Brotherhood in some capacity. And the Enclave is still kinda loitering about out that way trying to figure out "well, hell, now what do we do?"

I honestly think the people who WOULDN'T want the BOS back, are those who are foamy mouthed about Lyon's East Coast chapter. And those people are hilarious to listen to.

I'd be ok with the BoS showing up in a DLC, maybe the midwestern BoS that has been mentioned in other threads from the earlier fallout game.

But it might be boring to have BoS as a main faction, and I agree with you, theres no evidence from the trailer that its BoS. Looks strictly like pre-war army power armor.

I liked what New Vegas did with the BoS, just a minor faction with their own big quest, but doesn't really alter the main story.

It would be cool to see that The Institute developed their own power-armor.

As for the Bos i think it would be logical if the Bos spread out over the East Coast, look at the Ncr or Caesar's Legion, they are perfect examples of growing factions on the West Coast.

I don't understand why the Bos can't do the same on the East Coast.

Should just do what they did in Skyrim and make some odd renaming thing with random quests that something or other and get things done to promote something to get more things...

Given that the Capital Wasteland faction of the BoS was already formidable and on the verge of expanding their potential by the conclusion of FO3, I'd say it's more likely than not that they will appear.

I think Ronto will have a presence in FO4. Maybe there is even a war between them.

Perhaps.....

....the enclave will be shown but in a small scale in the story. They could maybe play a small part in the game.
