I failed at FCOM... now trying something else but have quest

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 3:44 pm

After two whole days of trying to get FCOM working, I give up. I know, the intstructions are there and if followed correctly should result in success, but due to tiredness or a momentary lapse of concentration, something didn't go according to plan.... so I'm trying something else but I'm a little confused about a few things.

Currently installing OOO, then Armamentarium Complete, then MMM, then some Quest mods, and finally texture replacers.

As I understand it, OOO, MMM and Arma Complete use their own levelled lists (or change the vanilla ones), so will these levelled lists all work in conjunction with one-another if I use the OOO specific ESPs from both MMM and Arma? Or do I have to do some levelled list merging?

Also, if I install any quest mods, how do I get them to use the levelled lists from the overhauls I've installed?

Help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
S

Yes, Armamentarium Complete comes with ArmamentariumLL4OOO.esp and ArmamentariumLLMagicOOO.esp which stitches the leveledlists together so to speak. Works fine with OOO + MMM. Other than that, the Bashed Patch is as made for this so very much recommended when using several mods affecting leveledlists, as it can merge them.

OOO+MMM is a very nice combo. You can always "upgrade" to FCOM at a later date when you have those running w/o issues.

Thanks for the swift reply.

Will I have to use the Bash Patch to merge the levelled lists for OOO, MMM, and Arma? Or would the Bash Patch be used for any additional mods I install which use levelled lists that don't have an OOO-ready esp included?

I'm pretty sure you could get by without a bashed patch for just those mods, but it is always better to use one. As for quest mods using new items, it depends. If you are going to be using a bashed patch you should check out http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=17557.

Thanks for the link, I'll check it out.

I'm in the process of looking into Bashed Patching but I'm a bit confused. Do you know of any help/tutorials on creating one? Not sure on what to merge when it comes to merging.

If using BOSS to manage the load order, which I'd recommend, you can rely on it getting the bash tags correctly, which means that you can basically check all Import X parts of the Bashed Patch and the mods that turn up there - the same for Merge Patches (you can have those unchecked in the mod list - they will get a + sign before them after rebuilding the patch) and Leveled Lists (check Automatic there).

Automatic sounds good to me! Especially when I haven't got a clue what I'm doing. :)

Thanks again for your help!

You're welcome. I'd wait with Item Interchange for the time being. Keep it as simple as possible.

I've downloaded Item Interchange but I'll wait and see how I get on with BOSS/Bashed Patch first.

One other thing. Some mods come with a BSA file, which I understand is an archive file containing textures, meshes, etc. Do I just need to have the BSA file in my DATA folder or do I need to unpack the BSA file before the contents will be used by the mod?

No, you should definitely not unpack them - but you should check the respective readme for instructions on how to get the bsa loaded.

I've got my mods installed and now at the process of creating the Bashed Patch but I'm not sure of one thing. I've ran BOSS and its given me the text report, but for some mods it says ". Bashed Patch tag suggestion: {{Insert tag name here, etc}}. I have Automatic enabled within Wyre Bash but I'm not sure if I should add these suggested tags or leave the mods how they are with the automatic tags picked up.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
S

Just realised that the suggested tags are the ones picked up by Wrye Bash.
