"Failed to initialize renderer"

Post » Sun May 12, 2013 3:03 am

Whenever I go to hit the play button on skyrim, I am presented with the following error:

"Failed to initialize renderer. Your display doesn't support the selected resolution. Please set a different resolution in Skyrim's Launcher under 'Display Settings'.

The problem is, it doesn't give me an option to set a different resolution. The resolution field is completely blank.
And apparently default settings for my system (i5 2400, 8gb ram, HD 5770) is 'Low Quality'.

I have updated my catalyst drivers to 11.10

The other day i was playing skyrim on a worse computer and it was running fine.

Not sure what to do : (

Anyone else having this issue?

I have the same issue but only after I update my video card drivers.

Mind you I am using a nVidia 9800 GTX video card. Try rolling back to the previous video card drivers.

Is it still the issue? Tried to start Skyrim after a year since last start and now can't do it because of subject.

Video: 7950, drivers are the most recent.

There is no options to choose resolution in Launcher - just blank list. It shows correct resolutions if I try Windowed mode, but then I get message that windowed mode is not supported on my card.

Three software sources, if we immediately eliminate a defective graphics processor. First is the graphics drivers, as already commented. Second is a corrupted or missing set of Dx9 DLLs, Third is corrupted graphics files in the newer game install.

Duped this, somehow!

Going to reinstall Skyrim from the scratch. Don't think that something wrong with drivers as other games run perfectly.

Each game is affected by drivers in a different way.

Nope. I saw only a few of games where you have to do something special with drivers to launch it.

As I said, after reinstallation, Skyrim at last recognize my videocard :D So, there was definetely a problem with the game, not with the drivers or whatsoever.
