failed to initialize

Post » Mon Dec 07, 2009 1:32 am

Hi support,

I have an HP Pavilion dv7 laptop, which had a heatsink over heat. I made a repair which resolved that issue, but now I can't boot into windows directly. I can get into safe mode, which after reboot from safe mode to regular boot will sometimes allow me to into regular windows.

Once in regular windows, if I try to start fallout 3 I get an error message "failed to initialize renderer".

Does anyone know what it might mean and what steps to take to resolve it?

1) You realize you're in the Brink forums, and not the Fallout 3 forums, right?

2) You should probably consider resolving your problem booting into Windows correctly before worrying about getting other things to work. A messed up OS (for any number of reasons) could cause all kinds of issues.

If you can't enter Windows Safe mode then some essential Windows files are corrupted or have been deleted. You aren't going to get the game to work after you fix your Windows problem first by either doing a Windows repair or a clean Reinstall with a drive format.

The "failed to initialize renderer" problem usually indicates on a graphic card driver problem or DirectX problem but in your case it could be anything really.
