Failing to generate .nifs with MGE distant land creation too

Post » Mon Sep 20, 2010 12:17 pm

Alright, I've been really making Morrowind look amazing with all sorts of mesh replacers and town overhauls and such, and I just installed http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=8334 V 1.0a (I never had any previous versions installed) and when I try to create distant land I get http://img707.imageshack.us/img707/975/screenshot1nh.png error. Can anyone offer any help? When I'm actually ingame and walk, the trees don't show up in distant land, but as I near them they appear, so the files aren't corrupted as far as I know.

I've never had this issue with Vurt's mod, but judging from the names of the meshes which failed, it isn't coming from the Leafy West Gash -- those look like Ascadian Isles meshes. Are you using Vurt's Ascadian Isles mod, as well? Perhaps a reinstall of that (or an update to his newest version) will help.

Additionally, unless you are using svn118 for the special release Knu made a while back, you should upgrade to at least svn126 (for a few important bugfixes and some extra functions, like water ripples). Newer than that, 161 and 178 are good stable revisions to use.

Lastly, it is always better to ask in the MGE thread for help -- more users tend to post in there so you have a better chance of a helpful reply, and if someone is having a similar issue, it can be helpful to know how others resolved it.

Good luck!

Thank you for the reply!

The second after I posted this I realized it would be better suited to the MGE thread, but what's done is done. I apologize.

I am using Vurt's Ascadian Isles mod as well, and I redownloaded the latest version, re-extracted all of the files, and still was presented with the same error, unfortunately.

Also, I honestly don't know what svn is, but regardless, could I have a link to the newest version?

http://sourceforge.net/projects/morrgraphext/files/Beta%20Releases/MGE%203.8%2B%20SVN%20builds/mge3.8.2-rev.0178.7z/download should be a direct link to the revision 178 package. I can't say that it will help your issue because I don't know what is causing it, but it can't hurt to try.

On a related note, if you are using Vurt's Ascadian Isles mod, ensure that you also have Morrowind Code Patch running (1.8 is the latest), and that you don't have the .esp file Vurt used in previous versions of his mod. It is now a pluginless replacer and his entry on PES says that using the old .esp will only cause errors; I recommend moving it to a different folder and seeing if that helps, too.

Thanks for the link. Upon investigation of the MGE topic it seems someone else is having my error as well. I have the latest version of MCP and I'm not using any .esps for the Ascadian Isles.

Tried to reproduce this with a clean install and Vurt's work with MGE svn 178, but I can't seem to cause the error to appear. Maybe someone else will have some idea of what to do.

Edit: Since I can't reproduce this, is it at all possible that the error goes deeper than the mod? Permissions issue with Vista/7, BSA stamp with Steam, video card issue, MGE dependencies outdated? Maybe it would help if you guys could post some system information.

I don't get an error actually, but the meshes fail to be generated, even using an exception list.

Really?

Hmm. It seems the files I get an error with while generating distant land are the ones that aren't appearing. You're SURE you're getting no errors, correct?

When exactly do you get the errors?

When my distant land is done generating, it says 5 errors happened in MGEui. Look at the screenshot. They don't appear ingame, because they render in Morrowind, but are unfortunately not being rendered by MGE.

That's good to know. At least we're having the exact same problem. I don't think this is related to the Leafy West Gash; I think the reason I saw it is because I regenerated distant land after installing both and I attributed it to that. Hopefully someone figures out the problem, seeing as it works for other people.

Yeah, its been keeping me from exploring the Ascadian Isles region, its just too jarring to see trees pop out of nowhere.
