Is it fair to blame the Brotherhood for the Institute's Fall

Post » Thu Dec 03, 2015 12:24 am

It is human nature to seek culpability in a time of tragedy. It is a sign of strength to cry out against fate, rather than to bow one's head and succumb. Inevitably many will fault the hands upon the sword which felled the Institute, the Brotherhood of Steel. But the Brotherhood merely performs the duty of its office. To further fear them is redundant; to hate them, heretical. Those more sensible will place responsibility with those who forced the hands of the Brotherhood. With some fortune, they may foster this hatred into purpose, and further rule their own fate by coming to the Commonwealth's service.

Yet ultimately, it was I who set these events into motion, with a single shot from my plasma rifle.

To blame me for the death of the Brotherhood of Steel is understandable but wrong.

Elder Maxson is to blame.

It was he, after all, who brought them to the Commonwealth to die.

I'm not a Nazi so I decided against joining a group that wanted to commit genocide and wipe out all synths but I did kill all of the members of the brotherhood single-handedly as soon as I heard elder Maxon's hate speech so guess I'm to blame for that

Agreed.

Seriously, though, the Institute was doomed for a variety of reasons. Their isolationism, their hubris, their petty cruelties, and their pointless acts of mad science. The only thing which protected them was their location and, eventually, someone was going to come along better than they were at it.

The BoS vs. Institute plot is the core of the game.

The Railroad and Minutemen are almost distractions.

Ya sorry I had no idea what your topic was, it kind of went all over the place. I thought you meant "i joined the brotherhood of steel and killed the instatute" did I read it wrong?

It's pretty concise. I suggested that blaming the Brotherhood for acting like the Brotherhood is wasted time and that one should instead take issue with those who attracted their judgment; be they the scientists in the Institute who created Synths, or the Railroad who sheltered them when they escaped.

Ya and I said I killed the brotherhood for acting like Nazis. I don't blame them I simply killed them all. Seemed pretty on topic to me.

I killed the institute as well, don't worry, the railroad is the only group that wants to treat the synths as equals and not as servile robots or as abominations to be wiped out.

I did not fall for my son's charm.

Equals? Didn't it also kidnap synths who didn't want to leave the Institute?

Sure did. And wiped their minds, essentially killing them.

How about that.

The Railroad's tendency to persuade Synths to get mind-wiped is kind of disturbing. Arguably not as much as much as stuff the Institute and BoS do, but still... it is practically killing yourself so that someone else can live safely instead of you.
