[RELz] Fake Patch (Thread IV)

You can use it with 1.4 with no problems, you'll just have redundant harmless data.

Simple question: If I am currently using 1.5 and getting VATS lag AND want to play with Broken Steel activated, the only known way to do this is to use Fake Patch? At this time there are no known alternatives?

So far as I know, 1.0.0.15 was the last .exe w/o the VATS lag. There are some things pertaining to Broken Steel that won't currently work properly without 1.5.

for the record, an alternative to fake patch for fixing vats lag is that some people (myself included) use either FPS Limiter or CamStudio to limit their frames per second, which removes this lag for unknown reasons.

However, other vats problems, such as incorrect hit percentages and such, are not fixed via this method.

Okay, lets see if anyone here can point out what I'm doing wrong.

I've got 1.1.0.35 installed, the latest fake patch version, and the water fix. I'm in the purity project chamber, water fix is activated, Broken Steel is activated, I've had the new level limit and new enemies showing up for a while now, I'm not playing a custom race. Every time I activate the purifier the game ends normally. No 2 Weeks later, just straight to credits.

Ideas? Suggestions?

Fake Patch is for 1.0.0.15. If you're not using 1.0.0.15, you might as well patch all the way to 1.5.0.22...

I think I can live with the percentages thing as that is periodic. VATS lag is like almost every fight :(

Thanks so so much for your response! It was just the hint I needed to start digging up other answers. I am sort of out of touch on this stuff as I stopped playing back in late 2008, so I havn't been around for all of this.

Note that the fps limiting thing doesn't work for everybody, also for unknown reasons. It also doesn't consistently work in game for all people. I use the fps limiter (kinda built into fose, you still need the seperate download), and I occasionally get the lag, while the camstudio thing doesn't work for me at all.

However, it is, for me, a better fix than fake patch because the 1.0.0.15 exe has a bug that crashes the game when using the railway rifle in vats. I keep tabs on this thread hoping justin (et al) can find a way to fix that too. If so, i'm jumping on the fake patch bandwagon in a second :)

Noted, thanks :)

Actually, as I sit here composing a list of things to try tonight when I get home, I continue to fret over whether to try and "fix" 1.5 and live with it, or whether to switch to Fake Patch.. in this regard:

There are some things pertaining to Broken Steel that won't currently work properly without 1.5.

Can someone elaborate on this? Is it simply the water thing or is there more to it?

The really frustrating thing about all this is that in the end... I am starting a fresh game. It's probably going to take 2-3 weeks before I beat the MQ ANYWAY, by which time I am almost sure there will be better solutions available...

Meh.

Well, off hand, there's a building that is has weird wall/floor/ceiling visibility problems without 1.5. The area is still solid and things still work, it just looks awful when you can see through the building into the game's void. Also there's a script problem where what's-her-name won't follow you into the the purifier room at the end. You have to use placeatme to get her there so you can continue.

Those above 2 issues, plus the Tesla Cannon won't 1 shot vertibirds like in the videos. That should be it.

The Pitt and OA should both work fine provided your archives are in order or you're not running mod(s) that interfere with DLC quests and you have it all in your Fallout3\Data folder... Re-read the opening post and I'll bet you'll figure it out.

Hello,

I know that between mods and such can be conflicts. But I wanted to ask you if there is any workaround for such conflicts.

Here is my problem.

Currently I have 36 mods, between those mods are 2 major overhauls MMM and FOOK + UFP. And it seems there is a conflict between Fake patch, possibly UFP and FOOK 1.6.

When I am playing the game patched to official 1.4 patch + UFP and all those mods everything is working as it should. But when I patch to 1.0.0.15 + Fake patch + UFP and use FOOK I get floating exclamation marks in the Tenpenny Tower, like in this screen http://img413.imageshack.us/img413/4778/screenshot0.jpg

It seems that the UFP modified lightning, and those are in places where something is wrong with the light. Now I am asking, is there any way to make everything work? 1.4 patch + UFP = everything is perfectly fine. I have reinstalled the game many times with different patches and mods and it seems that when this combination is used 1.0.0.15 + UFP + Fake patch, I get floating exclamation marks.

Can I do something about this?

Either way, fake patch is just fantastic piece of work and I am every happy that someone wants to fix Bethesda's mess (though you shouldn't because everything should work fine in the first place).

You possibly have 255-character problem in fallout3.ini. Read please the first page for explanation.
You must shorten bsa-names

Thanks for the answer, delamer. I forgot to mention that I did the .ini thingy, there are less than 255 characters so I guess that isn't the problem.

You realize that it's 255 chars including spaces, right? Also, .bsa's must be renamed throughout the entire .ini file, not only in the SArchiveList section.

I've held off on playing for quite a while waiting for broken steel. It seems the only lasting problem with fake patch + bs is the tesla cannon not 1-shotting vertabirds. I would really like to 1 shot vertabirds, but after running 1.5 and reinstalling to get rid of it, I cannot go back.

Is it possible to make a fix that would work with fake patch?

Sadly it's a 1.5 only feature, a new command which allows the game to cause a instant destruction effect on objects, and since Vertibirds aren't creatures, it's needed for that effect.
Besides, It's not like they need many shots to be fired at them before they go boom, just spend like 5 shots on them instead of 1(rough guess on how many shots it'll take).

Not to nitpick..but you care about the railway rifle...why? Its a junky piece of..well..junk, just like all the other 'build it yourself' weapons with the exception of the nuka grenade (which needs converted to use regular cola or else a mod to add about twice as much quantum), and the deathclaw hand...and ....MAYBE...the dart gun (good for sneaky types).

Instead of worrying about Moiras mad little inventions, tell that twit to bugger off and install Weapon Mod Kits. Your computer will thank you. Especially if you are like me and cant use FOOK reliably without massive constant crashes. (no idea why).

------------------------

SPEAKING of which. Does anyone know why, and if there is a workaround for, crashing on quicksaves at/near/around/within farting distance of: Project Purity while playing BS?

Does it need to be instant destruct? Can the weapon be modified to do massive extra damage to objects, or do massive damage to everything and reduced damage to humans/ghouls/mutants/etc?

Yes, I know that the limit was including spaces. I'm not that dumb... who am I kidding. I'm the dumbest man on the planet. :banghead:

I have not done the changes to the entire .ini section... only to the SArchiveList. Now I have done everything by the book as it was written. My are gone in the Tenpenny Tower so I'm very happy.

I'm guessing everything should be working fine now, right? I mean, if I made a mistake somewhere in the .ini the game shouldn't launch at all?

Thank your for your help.

Cheers.
