Attention
This mod requires the following DLC: Knights of the Nine, Shivering Isles, and Frostcrag Tower.
Incompatibility: this mod is completely incompatible with the original Frostcrag DLC and any other mod that relies on, uses, or changes it, including the Unofficial Patch.
This will never change. If this bugs you enough not to use the mod, then have it your way.
Introduction
Fall of the Ayleids is a quest mod based on Frostcrag Reborn, one of the most popular quest mods for Oblivion, but it is not Frostcrag Reborn.
Featuring Ayleids based off of Xenius' work, several sets of glowing Ayleid armors, in-game video cinematics, and complete voice acting, Fall of the Ayleids covers the story of the Overlord Tyras who, long ago, took over the ancient Ayleid city of Avalon before being imprisoned.
Now in the depths of the city there are only energy zombies, the legacy of Tyras' work. And one Ayleid named Valamoor wants your help to stop the threat of a Dremora army.
But what are his real motivations?
This Mortal Crag is a look into deception, betrayal, and what it means to make choices in our lives as human beings.

How to Install Manually
- Make sure you uninstall the original “DLCFrostcrag.esp” but NOT “DLCFrostcrag.bsa.”
- Install all files and folders. If asked to overwrite, select “Yes.” Some other mods use similar resource files as this one.

FAQ Why is it not compatible with other Frostcrag mods?
Because people make mistakes, and the mod has come so far in development that to undo them is impossible.
How do I start the quest?
Once you are inside Frostcrag, you must locate the Vault. There you will find some graves, and something that will allow you to open up a hidden passageway. Then you will need a key.
SPOILERS: You can find the key if you turn off the waterfall in the Living Chambers and look inside of the very first drain.
HELP THIS svckS AND IS BORING OR I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO
Open console, type in “coc frdeepness,” kill everything in it, go to end and up stairs, find bag at the very end of hallway, go to Frostcrag Tower Library (“coc FrostcragSpireExtension1Main”) and go to Rastieri’s desk and read all his [censored]. Find the key (to Nalonwyn).
If you are not level 20 or have not completed the main quest, grab the mysterious glowing orange orb sitting on the bookshelf, and then “coc frdeepness” again. Now there should be a giant blue barrier. Wait for the quest update, and then try to run up the steps.
From there everything is very straightforward.
I know, it’s a pain.
If you used this method, you will need to unlock the door to the Student Quarters as well. From there just follow Valamoor to the Crossroads.
Help! I found this mysterious orb, or else I’m in The Deepness and nothing is happening!
You must have completed the main questline to start this quest. Otherwise, the orb you find can be used to circumvent this. Pick it up and go to The Deepness, and everything should work just fine.
I played the old Frostcrag Reborn. What’s different?
Pretty much everything. Even the city looks different. There’s characterization, visual/cosmetic changes, new areas, and overall there is actually a questline now—where before you just had to wing it or read the FR readme to figure out what to do.
Rest assured that whatever you disliked about the old mods is changed (including massively long tunnels). There may also, of course, be things you dislike, but the mod is not very long (maybe an hour or two) and is quite linear and engaging.
What’s new in Fall of the Ayleids from the original This Mortal Crag?
Most of you probably never played the original. But the changes are so vast it is pointless to go over them. Some things that pop out is the voice acting, the in-game cinematics, and the glowing Ayleid armors. Also many serious bugs were fixed.
Known Issues
- The dungeon door in Shring castle sometimes causes a CTD
- Valamoor is not very good at navigating
- Sometimes Valamoor disappears, use the Summon Valamoor spell to get him back
- Occasionally NPCs will interrupt each other on accident, vanilla issue
- Some dialog can’t always be heard well, turn up the volume or turn on subtitles
- Sometimes NPCs get stuck, vanilla issue
- Valamoor will disappear occasionally when going through a door, just go back or use the Summon Valamoor spell to correct this
- Sometimes Ayleids will end up in weird places or won’t attack, in some cases you must find and kill them all to continue or else Valamoor will stall (use the “killall” command to kill all NPCs in a cell)
- The elevator in Firaga Dorn may be a very “bumpy” ride if one jumps off the ramp or approaches Valamoor at a “wrong” angle
- Valamoor may fall off bridges and the summon spell won’t always work—save before combat
- If all else fails disable and re-enable NPCs or use the “moveto” command
