If you have Fallout 2 then you can play it.
So erm, if you don't have FO2 then yes, you have to pay for a copy of the game.

But otherwise no, it's a open beta.

Whoa, I just tried this out and I got my rear handed to me on a silver platter by a large group of crazed ghouls, scavengers and golden geckos. This game is merciless.

Just run away from encounters, if they dont shoot you quick you will get away, get to the Hub, we will take you our Tent, it is safe there.

I think it's easier to escape from things in Real Time mode so go to config and change that.

You could get a car, but those is expensive, and taxi drivers are expensive too and not always trustworthy.

I can't take you to the camp since I had to start a new character but I'll start the game in 20 minutes or so.
Will have to wait for the creationists of the camp to come online first.

I am, I'm by the Welcome to the NCR sign in the first area. I may have to create a new character though because out of force of habit I tagged Speech which I imagine is pretty useless in this game.

Pretty good so far, you'll angy at least once guarenteed though, but when you get past that it's really fun.
