Game publishers do it all the time, sell the game long before it's even finished. So there's nothing really new there.
Also the amazon release date doesnt confirm anything, I've seen amazon on numerous occasions have completely wrong place holder dates on games, all the way back since prior to Oblivion's release.
I'm guessing this is the same, a simple place holder date that is conveniently the last day of the year doesnt mean there's some elaborate leak of the release date. Also if it was on the 31st of december, that would be a [censored] marketing ploy to release it on new years eve when everyone is going out and getting loaded drunk, most people wont care about a video game.
This is a bold move, and given the hype that has been created over the years and from the trailer, the pre-order numbers should be very high. Why wait until E3 or after to allow pre-orders? Bethesda has been working on the game for awhile, they knew exactly what gamers wanted, and have delivered. 2015 release date is more likely than say, a 2016 release date and must be very close to completion or a trailer would not have been shown. This year will be crowded, but I'm expecting Fallout 4 to do very well and break records. Marketing and good decisions can make this happen. Good ideas from everyone so far, glad to see I am not the only one hoping for and wanting it to be released this year.
I must be "bold" then GotY from a short trailer. Interesting...
