Fallout and Earthrise..

Post » Tue Jun 16, 2009 9:29 am

I am very confused on what is going on with these 2 games.

I understand that Fallout will be using the Earthrise engine and that Masthead Studios is going to be working on Fallout also. Is this true? If so.. why in gods name would they make Earthrise and Fallout? It would make no sense at all since they are both the same genre and well... im really confused on this.

Any answers please?

Well as far as I know gamesas needed support in this and they got it from masthead studios. They are still 2 entirely different games and we don't know if they will be anything alike. Just because they share the same engine, doesn't make them the same type of game. It's like asking why those Korean gaming companies keep pooping out the same kind of mmo all the time... wait.. that is a good question... Image

As an American living in Korea for a few years i can answer your question.

In Korea cloning or copying is the name of the game. You will go down a road and you will see 10 of the exact same business. For example... one street is whiteboard street. you want a white board you have you choice of 10 businesses , of course they all operate as a cartel , setting prices as such.

same thing w/the mmo.

ones sees it makes money and vola... you have 100 clones that lack imagination.

[Took some time to find the meaning of that post :D]

Hum...well if you go the *AGG-style games, than it might be true.
But in fact V13 uses just the engine of Earthrise.
Earthrise itself is more a Sci-Fi/Dark-Sci-Fi game not a post-apo game like V13.
Why should MastHead assist gamesas? Well, due the fact gamesas is using their engine, why don't hire people who know that engine that well also?
Both companies have their bonuses from that.

First of all the engine gets spread. If one mmo fails, the other might be a win to the mmo world. Wich means maybe other companies might buy a licence of said engine.
Second, both companies might be heard in one sentence - did anyone say promotion/public relations/marketing? Well mouth to mouth advertisemant is important these days. There many mediaplattforms out there. But the most important is still the opinion of, for example a close friend, isn't it?

Also Fallout is sort of a know IP, wich means Earthrise might be also affected by the players.

As you can see, both sides would gain their advances in such a relationship, also if gamesas has to pay masthead first. As you know, know one can live out of air and love ;).

Masthead owns the Earthrise IP and that is their game. They are only lending development support to the Fallout MMO although don't own it, gamesas is still the main developer behind the game so it's not entirely clear what Masthead will be doing after the MMO releases.

Regardless, it's great for Masthead since they still have their own project to fall back on and support and it's great for gamesas since they have added resources to help with the development of the MMO.

I've been following ER since 2007, a long time ago.

I know that they are in closed beta stage at the moment, however I too am confused as to why they would be in partnership developing competing titles.

However, ER will be released (you would hope) long before FOOL hits the shelves. Image

I think the partnership has actually helped Masthead by not only getting the studios name in the public eye but the MMO as well. I'm willing to bet there were more people who knew about Earthrise after the Fallout Online announcement and are willing to try it out than before it.

Who here is going to try out ER at least for a little while only because it's the same engine? I guess the answers is "a lot of you".

This is a good question.

Not only are they being developed with the same engine, this is from the earthrise website:

"A unique post-apocalyptic setting where the cloned remnants of mankind battle to survive and rebuild. Yet while humanity may have evolved, human nature remains as treacherous as ever…"

Well lets hope earthrise is released well before the fallout mmo, that way it can crash and burn in time for the release of this one.

What an excellent way to show gratitude to the studio that is working on a game you are anticipating.

I personally like the Earthrise Engine. Of course, there are much better things that could be done but overall, not bad. The combat has to be improved though. Needs to be more fluid and natural. If I' going to have a past, I prefer it to be multiple choice!
