The topic sentence pretty much says it all.

i've been playing a few downloaded games on X-Box Live, and starting wondering if it would ever be possible to see Fallout and Fallout 2 for play on X-Box.

i know console-only players like me are often held in some sort of geek-disgust, by True Believers who only use computers. But the reality is we exist, and i think the chance to play the first two would be neat, since i've only played Fallout 3 and New Vegas.

There's older, stranger things for download on Live, that aren't as popular. Could it happen?

You're on a computer now, typing this. Why don't you buy the Fallout Classic pack and play it in your computer, as long as it isn't older than Windows 95 of course.

If the games are untouched, nothing is changed at all in them, then I don't see why it can't be released for consoles, except for legal things. They're Interplay's games.
Though I bet many people would get so bored and annoyed after 15 minutes playing, because I can't see how you can control your character and do combat with a controller in a smooth way.
Reminds me of when I was playing Age of Empires on a console at a friend's house when I was little, and it svcked, and I was happy that I had AoE on PC back home. So much easier controlling little dudes on a big map with a mouse, you know with dragging select boxes and all the hotkeys.

It wont happen and that's a good thing.

It is literally too complex for the Xbox to handle, too many buttons and too much content and options for the Xbox controller to have buttons for.

The upper left joystick for movement, dialogue choices, which thing to loot, A to select, X to unequip a weapon and B to get out of the screen you're in (Inventory, looting, dialogue, etc....)

It could work on console.

Why do so many people choose console versions of games when they are available for computer? When you can answer that, you'll have answered your own question. :shrug: Thank you for at least articulating a reason, though. 'Herp derp NO CONSOLES svck herp derp' is what i half-expected, and i'm glad you didn't do that.

i cannot possibly see how anyone could make a coherent, logical argument that increased sales and a wider audience for an old game could possibly be a 'bad thing' for said old game. Maybe from an abstract, cult-like, 'purist' perspective. But that's hardly rational.

Why do I play on Xbox? Because, all of my friends had an xbox when I got it. I wanted to be able to play with them. My PC can barely run the simplest of games. I have to save up for a specific gaming PC.
I'm well aware that it would be better to play games on PC, but I'd rather play games with my friends then play them alone.

Usually because they don't have computers that can run them. That's been my experience anyway. Lord knows if I played new releases with any consistency I'd be tempted to get an X-Box for 300 bucks instead of upgrading my PC or buying an overpriced gaming laptop. But personally I've never met a gamer who actually preferred a controller to a mouse and keyboard if they had extensive experience with both. The latter is just more intuitive and able to handle a lot more in terms of precision and control.

It wouldn't be the bad thing so long as the console version was a complete port. It'd just be pointless since the minuscule sales would never justify the effort in porting them. The vast majority of console gamers are not going to flock to buy a 14 year old computer RPG and anyone interested in playing through the older Fallout games is all but guaranteed to have a computer more than capable of running them.

It should be fine if you get it on the pc, it doesn't take too much. Even if it does, you can have one loaded at a time, then uninstall it and install the other.

Those are part of my reasons also. i have periodic wrist and elbow pain with typing and mousing, so gaming just isn't an attractive option for me, as much as i love what i see with mods. That, and i just can't afford it. If i could, i'd probably try to play it, and put the pain aside.

And i've seen the computer people trash consolers enough throughout these boards in the past, to be weary posting. The logical-fallacy strawman accusation is duly disregarded.

The 'ignore poster' option sure is a neat function.

You can run Fallout 1/2 on any Windows computer produced within the last thirteen years, you don't need a gaming computer let alone a top of the line gaming computer to play them.

As for your pain, all I can really say is that the games are played mostly with the mouse. Fallout 1/2 are point and click isometric turn based games, the keyboard is used primarily for shortcuts to certain menus and functions.
