Fallout 1 and 2 for Xbox live plus the GECK

Post » Tue Sep 29, 2009 12:27 am

I would love to be able to play the entire Trilogy on Xbox live as well as being able to use the GECK on the console (if it doesn't already)

I don't think a G E C K will be included because, generaly custom content is only for P C on that scale.

Yep I checked the FAQ section and due to copyright it's a no go on the console (sighs :sadvaultboy: )

First two games on the console would feel weird, since it's mostly a mouse driven interface.

GECK won't be released for the consoles. It's just a PC bonus, because they happen to have an editor on the PC. The game content is created by the devs on PCs (sounds, 3D models, textures, animations and so on), and GECK is mainly developed for the devs to build the game world with, on PCs.

If the developers actually developed the game world on the 360 or PS3, then it would be different. But all they do with the 360 and PS3 devkits is to create the executables.

Not really one of my friends let me play his version of fallout 3 and it played quite well. It's just what your use to. Play console a lot you'll be good at it, play pc a lot and you'll be good at that.

I'm talking about Fallout 1 and 2 though, not 3. They play completely differently than Fallout 3, nearly everything is done with the mouse (including moving). Generally speaking that doesn't translate very well to consoles.

Something like the GECK wouldn't work on consoles. At a basic level for placing objects and modifying a value here and there, sure (and even then only if you had a mouse and keyboard for your console or Bethesda created a special version of the GECK for controllers), but creating real mods is a LOT more involved than using some COD level builder. There's no way you could ever, ever do it with a controller, and even if you could you need other supporting software to create resources (meshes, textures, audio, etc.) and some kind of PC-like file system to organize all of your data and resources. Can you imagine people designing meshes or writing scripts on a console and putting all of these complex components together into a mod? I sure can't. They could possibly make some type of way simplified version of it for consoles, I suppose, but that'd be about it. You need a computer to make real mods. Period.

This. Someone apparently hasn't seen Fallout 1 and 2. ;)

Still a no, because it goes against Microsoft's rules on custom content. They won't let you have any, unless they distribute it over live.

Also you need someway of activating the mod. PC has an option on the launcher (Which doesn't work properly for some people so they use Fallout Mod Manager), Xbox doesn't.

No mods on consoles. Period.

There will be mods on consoles, but they are official ones AKA DLC.

Well, they really are more addons than modifications since they are developer made.

But I'll conceed the point. :P

Ahem, no player made mods on consoles. Period. (I know some games have map creators, but they don't count cos you can't change the game mechanics with them)

That should do it. :)

Yup, I doubt there will ever be player-made mods on consoles. However, I do remember the PS3 being able to make and use player-made mods for Unreal Tournament III?

Fallout 1&2 would require a completely new interface. It simply wouldn't work with a control pad in its current form.

However, you can get Fallout 1 & 2 & Tactics http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B000IGE78M/ref=dp_olp_2, and if your PC is good enough to run a modern web browser it should have no trouble running the original Fallouts.

The problem with the idea of Fallout 1&2 coming to consoles are as pointed out the interface system. Another issue are the graphics, which while impressive at the time are dated compared to current games. (Not knocking the looks as such, I love them. They have a certain loveable character to them)

As such, a lot of people are going to say 'That looks crap' and not bother getting them. (Like food and dating, you taste with your eyes first) Even if the console based Fallout fans get them, you're still lookng at a risky venture of bringing them to console.

Also, Fallout 1&2 were Interplay/Black Isle, neither of which are in any position to be wanting to risk such a gamble.

The hand-sculpted and scanned talking heads, while few, are still more detailed than the FO3 ones.

And as others said, if your computer is good enough to post on this forum, it's likely good enough to run them.

They can barely get the game itself to run on consoles. GECK is probably beyond their abilities.

I bet the game runs better on consoles then on PCs considering that not everyones PC hardware is up to date.
