I've recently been trying to play Fallout and Fallout 2 on my computer. I'm running Windows 7 and have a high resolution monitor (1920x1080). Of course when I first started setting them up I immediately noticed the graphics glitch that inverts the colors, so I found the High Res patches on NMA and downloaded them for both games, and patched them both. I adjusted Fallout's resolution in the Options menu in-game. I thought this would fix the problem, but there are still flickers constantly, and after a few minutes of play the screen goes black and I have to ctrl+alt+del out of it. How can I fix this?

And Fallout 2 won't run at all since I installed the patch, it comes up with this message: "Fallout appears to be running in compatibility mode"

Help would be GREATLY appreciated, this is frustrating me to no end.

I believe unfortunately that bethesda does not support the first few fallouts, I think the problem is that your running it on windows 7, the game was probably not designed to run on a 64 bit system

I run them all (FO1, 2 and tactics) on windows 7 Home premium 32bit with no problems at all!

What I did was a Manual Installation of Fallout 1/2: http://www.nma-fallout.com/article.php?id=1593

It's basicly copying and pasting of the game data from the CD to your HD. Then install it as a Humongous Installation (see link). So you don't need the CD anymore.

Patch it only with the official patches and the High resolution patch (Turn resolution to 16bit in game menu and the screen to 800X600)

Normally it should be working properly.

You have tried changing compatibility settings via properties and such i presume?

Hey there, I had a similar problem (probably the exact same one--it happened right after I installed W7) so give this a try as it is what I did and it all works perfectly fine for me now:

You'll probably want to download and install this http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/dload.php?action=file&file_id=1270 (don't worry, it's totally intuitive and very easy to use. Just read the instructions!) install that first, then go into the exe file for the actual game, and choose properties/compatibility and click "change settings for all users" then "run this program as administrator." if you do it any other way the game will not load and will give you an error message about running in compatibility mode.

Thats why i would find gaming on a pc completely annoying to no end with the endless patch updates.

Modern games often auto-patch. Steam automatically patches titles, for example. I think Windows Live has something similar too.
What I'm trying to say, really, is "what a cop-out!".

As Flamekebab said, the games are over a decade old and came out a few OS's back. It's hard to keep anything that up to date! Find me a next-gen console which can still play games from 1997 or '98! Anyway, I could make the argument that installing patches and mods is not only usually very easy but also very, very rewarding! Think about how huge some of these mods and patches are--sometimes adding so much more content and game-play you almost have a brand new game within your game! Basically, if you consider yourself more than a casual fan of any game with a pretty dedicated following it can only help you to have the extra options.

I have Vista 64 but can only run Fallout 1. Do you have the new 3 pack? Cause I've got the original discs I bought a decade ago.
