Also, im curious if anyone else will be using the new controller with this game? Should be a pretty cool option to have in addition to M&K.
The point of the Steam controller is that you don't need games to support it, since it's configurable. You can map the K&M settings to it through Steam, or you can use it in xbox mode (I'm pretty sure it will have xbox controller emulation as a standard feature).
Personally, I'll stick to K&M. The FPS shooting in FO4 looks good, so I don't want to be messing around with a pad.
That's why I mentioned using it in xbox mode. If you like the default gamepad set-up in FO4, put the game in controller mode and the Steam controller will emulate an xbox controller. There is absolutely no question that the game will ship with full controller support.
Fallout 3 had native controller support (at least for the 360 controller), which is the standard controller for PC gaming, so there is no reason to assume Fallout 4 won't be the same. In which case the Steam controller will work without any need for configuration.
Sorry, I misunderstood your initial question to be about Steam controller support. It's pretty rare these days for a cross-platform title to not have xbox controller support on PC. They've already had to work out the control scheme for xbox, and some PC players like to use a pad, so why not include it? FO3, FONV, and Skyrim all had native gamepad support, so we can reasonably expect it in FO4.
Besides, I'm pretty sure the E3 demo was running on a PC, but it was clearly being played with an xbox controller, so obviously they already have it working.
I cannot FATHOM why anyone would gimp themselves and use a controller for a FPS game O.o
speed and accuracy. You can get FAR more accurate with a mouse then you ever could with a Controller, no matter how good you are with a controller. The input is also faster on a K&M.
When it comes to competitive or multiplayer shooters I completely agree with you, but in singleplayer games it doesn't really matter.
I"m personally just going to use the 3j60 controller again, probably the best damn controller ive ever used. Also kb/m is more accurate than anolog sicks, but i find using the keyboard uncomfortable compared to leaning back with a controller
I once tried to play FO3 with a controller. I was killed by a turret before I could manage to get my cross-hair lined up anywhere near it.
