Is Fallout 4's Atomic Command giving us a clue on the date?

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 7:31 am

The locations on this mini game are real locations( Statue of Liberty..NYC, then DC, then Boston's Custom House Clock Tower, then Mt. Rushmore and so on) except when it comes to Vegas, it shows Lucky 38 and the post apocalyptic "New Vegas" sign. Is this a clue Fallout 4 does take place a few years after FONV?

Hmm, that's a good question! Is Atomic Command considered canon? (Little joke, but also kind of serious? Lol)

Just think its odd to use the "New Vegas" sign and Lucky 38 if FO4 takes place before FONV. Also I noticed each location has a history in Fallout in someway. DC-FO3, SF-2, NYC-I think we will see in near future,Clock Tower-Boston, Seattle-cancelled Project 13 and Fallout Extreme, Mt. Rushmore could represent Northwest Commonwealth and there has been plenty of references to this area in prior games.

Well, I guess it could be. Atomic Command would have been made before the Great War so all of those places would have been well known locations. So, it could be as you suggest or it may be nothing. I guess we'll find out Nov. 10!

I'm not so sure. Just for reference, https://youtu.be/D5esyZPt5Jo?t=16m24s.

I think that's just the regular Las Vegas sign (hard to tell if it says Las or New, but that's definitely Vegas), and there's no sign of the Lucky 38 - just looks like the Space Needle next to the Las Vegas sign. And the title screen states "Copyright 2071 Planned Diversion" (pun on Activision?), so it couldn't have said New Vegas.

It is a nice reference to New Vegas, though. You'd think that if Bethesda held a grudge against Obsidian for any reason (they totally don't, but some people believe) they wouldn't have included Las Vegas in a mini-game for people to draw connections to.

No, I think it is the "New Vegas" sign not Las Vegas, http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fabulous_New_Vegas_sign

But if the game was made in 2071, why would it show a sign for New Vegas? The name only changed after the Great War.

Basically I'm saying it is showing locations of other Fallout related locations, so Vegas is recognized and thus Fallout 4 take place after FONV, especially with the Boston Clock Tower being in the picture.

During the E3 showcase, where he was showing off Pipboy minigames, the landmarks in the Atomic Command minigame are the Golden Gate Bridge, the Space Needle, the Las Vegas sign, Mount Rushmore, etc...

As I stated before, when you look at the sign for Vegas, you cant read the"Las" , why? You can read the "Vegas" fine. On the left of the screen you have SF, Seattle, Vegas, and Mt Rushmore. SF represents Fallout 2, Seattle is from the cancelled Project 13 and Fallout Extreme, Vegas is FONV and Mt Rushmore may represent the location of the next Fallout if they do another Fallout in the West. The Northwest Commonwealth is referenced in FO3 and FONV. All these locations are western locations. The Eastern locations in Atomic Command are on the right. These include DC-FO3, St Louis-Fallout Tactics, Boston Clock Tower-FO4, and NYC. NYC I think will be the location of the next Fallout project in the East.

All this confirms is that some people have WAY too much time on their hands. Conspiracy theory: confirmed.

BTW MT Rushmore is in South Dakota, not exactly the "West".

I think Vegas was up and running for seven years under House's leadership as "New Vegas" before the Courier came along. This doesn't necessarily mean FO4 takes place after 2281.

Meh. It's always Easter in the Fallout universe and even if it does say New Vegas then it shouldn't be considered anything more than a painted egg.

Fairly sure the meat of F4 takes place within the same year as F3.

Why would it HAVE to take place after? Surely the Lucky 38 existed before the events of Fallout 3. It didn't just pop up and be locked down for Mr House. It obviously was a casino beforehand. It's existance is likely pre great war anyway. I'd expect a place like New Vegas to have SOME acknowledgement in 4.

Take it for what it is, but that wiki link specifically mentions the Vegas sign as "pre-War." (Also, the sign is going to look almost the same either way - it was there before the War, they just put some grafitti on in the years afterward.)

It also wouldn't make sense for a game developed before the War to include "New Vegas," in their game - as it didn't exist yet (though "Las Vegas" certainly did - we can also assume those casinos were built well before the War took place, too.)

I think they were looking to add various landmarks and opted for the Lucky 38 as an easter egg/reference amongst the others.

I think people are reading a little too deeply into the mini game.

Todd Howard stated in an interview with The Telegraph that despite Fallout 4's prewar opening, most of the game takes place after the events of Fallout 3.

Indeed, it is my understanding that aside from the prologue, it is set after f3, starting later that same year- That it doesn't take place after the events of NV?

F3 starts in august. It is entirely possible to start after F3, and still within the same year

All I see is people asking and Pete still avoiding the question. We have all seen the E3 footage. Todd stated they started "working on F4" in 2009 which is a load of crap. As many references you find in FO3 to Boston they at least had a good idea what would happen in F4 as they were making F3. The BOS in Boston is the CWBOS. It wouldn't make sense otherwise. Arthur Maxson does nothing in F3 except make an introduction. His purpose will be seen in F4. He is only 9 years old in F3. What other BOS has vertibirds other than CWBOS? The "200" years is a vague estimate and they are not letting us know anything about the game. Just like when you go to Sloan in FONV and you order a meal, Jas ask if you want a 200 year old Salisbury steak...it's actually older (204). You get the point I'm making. Why don't they just come out and tell us the year if they don't have anything to hide..because they don't have too. They are saying "200" because they are informing us it is roughly in the time span of the last games. It isnt 100 years after the war or 100 years after F3..it's just letting us know we are in the "200 year" ballpark after the war. I can remember for a long time, rumors were it was going to be a prequel.
