Post » Fri Jun 24, 2011 8:39 am

Hey, I recently got Fallout 1. But I have some problems. I seem to be total useless person. I can′t even manage to kill a dog without getting killed myself. So if someone please could help me out a little it would be fine. These are the problems I need help with: Is it any kind of wait button like in Fo3 and FNV because I noticed many towns is effected by the time of day, how can I get some money without putting myself in to much danger, where can I find some decent armor, shall I retrive the purifier as soon as possible etc... I might have some more questions later, but I save it untill then. Feel free to add addtitional things if you think of something that might will come usefull.

It's been quite some time since I last played Fallout. I suggest you start over from character creation, if you haven't progressed too far in-game. For your initial play-through, I would suggest having a high intelligence and decent charisma. Also, 6-7 strength should serve you adequately for combat.

Invest a few points in Small Guns and a minute amount in Melee; this should make you more comfortable during the initial phases of the game. Lock, repair and science are extremely useful and while I, personally, did not often use first-aid or doctor, they still aid in gathering momentum early on in game. Also, if I remember correctly you do find some armour in Vault 13.

First of all get the official patch.

After that, make sure you think things through with your SPECIAL.
Traits are far more negative and positive than they were in New Vegas, so make sure you pick the right traits for the right character.
As to killing stuff, get Ian and stay the [censored] out of his way, then get Tycho, then Dogmeat, then Katja. There's strength in numbers.
Making money: Go to Vault 15, I think there should be some loot left in some of the lockers down there which you can sell.

Yup, Ian will shoot you in the back on a regular basis, mind that.
Also, it is extremely difficult to keep companions alive late-game, when you start fighting Super Mutants in earnest, so don't sweat it if they get blown apart. It'll happen.

Be prepared to get one-hit-killed from full health even while wearing T-51b, as well. Weapons that normally can't damage you (like Miniguns and Flamers) will still blow you apart instantly on critical hits lategame. It's pretty irritating, but it is what it is. It was hilarious the first time it happened to me, a mutant was shooting me with a minigun. 0 damage, 0 damage, 0 damage, CRITICAL HIT YOU DIE LOL. Caught me off guard, that's for sure.

I managed to keep all of them alive until Mariposa, Dogmeat died from the forcefields, Ian died from a laser and Tycho and Katja got AOE'd by a rocket. :sadvaultboy:

Hmm, If I read right it is possible to aquire as many companions as you want on the same time. Is that true? Also, is trading always 1:1?

In Fallout 2 it's based on Charisma but in Fallout 1 I don't think that Charisma determines how many followers you can get.
No idea how trading is in ratios, but IIRC it's not 1:1. (I might be wrong though.)

Btw, if you're going for a ranged character Perception is very good, but Fast Shot is horrible for tough enemies.

Agility does not "have to be" 9 or 10.

NEVER have 1 luck.

Mine all died in the Cathedral (did it before Mariposa), I tried to save Tycho like six or seven times but I just couldn't do it. Damn flamers.
Course, if I was getting critted to death in full Hardened T-51b, doubt I could have done anything to help him.

Luck plays into your Random Encounter chance too, right? Or is that just FO2?

Nah I think it's all about PER and Outdoorsman.
PER for player placement on the encounter and Outdoorsman for avoiding them.

Don't pick fights with super mutants early I did with Harry in Necropolis and he shot me in half with his Watts laser rifle. Then when I managed to kill him after losing dogmeat Gary came over with his flamer and burnt me to a crisp.
