Is Fallout 4 Bethesda's Fable III?

Post » Mon Nov 30, 2015 8:20 am

I think it is.

They even trumpeted the [censored] dog companion in marketing, lol, but seriously.. it feels like they've ripped the heart and soul of their signature games out this time around. It just does not feel like a Fallout game, it just does not feel like a Bethesda game.

People here keep saying "Oh but everyone says this every new release", this is simply not true. I still love Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Skyrim as much as I did the first day I played them. I still consider Skyrim to be disappointingly shallow and and inferior in many aspects to past games as it was the day I played it.

My opinions on these games has not changed at all with the next installment, my opinion on Fallout 4 will not change should Bethesda release another title they have the audacity to call an RPG. I think certain people have just been waiting too long on this game to give in and admit what a crippling disappointment it is. It's a sort of defense mechanism to protect them from the grim realization that the last bastion of AAA RPG development has fallen.

It feels like some ridiculously early April Fool's, it feels like this game was sabotaged. The dialogue system in particular I just can't fathom how this was ever considered an acceptable quality. The way it has been implemented feels as though it was shoehorned in within the last year of development.

I'm still in shock at how bad this game is. We all were worried after Skyrim, we all were worried as more and more information seeped out before release. But I don't think any of us thought they would go this far..

Thanks, Bethesda.. thanks for the decades of entertainment. Thanks for finally giving me the kick I needed to wash my hands of AAA games for good.

I must say, I do find it quite difficult to share in your sentiments.

I'd expect nothing less of a CoD and Destiny player, to be frank. I'm glad you don't share my sentiments, I consider it an honor, in fact.

Fair points. Seems this game has lost a lot of old fans due to the gutting of its RPG elements amongst other things, while on the other hand adding new features that appeal to those whose like things to be "Streamlined". I'm of the former.

Extremely hard to share in your sentiments indeed.
Fallout 4 is a far better game then Fable 3 could ever hope to be.

Uh, no.

That's pretty stupid to say. If Fallout 4 doesn't please you as a Bethesda fan, nothing in your life ever will.

Is it some kind of trend to accuse some one of automatically being a COD fan-boy if he doesnt agree to your views? What ugly behaviour.

You misunderstand the post. Is this game to Bethesda as Fable III was to Lionhead, is what I am saying.

It's also within the first two posts. Calling someone with a different opinion as essentially someone who isn't a "true fan" only shows that you think your own opinions are worth a damn, nobody else's.

More like Fable 2. It,'s mainly the story people pdont like in this game but the majority of players seem to think the gameplay mechhanics are improved.

In Fable 3 the story was a lot less cliche but actual gameplay was lacking. (At least IMO)

Edit: But no I disagree with the sentiment as well. The only thingthat truely seems to be lacking is dialogue and it truely isn't as bad as some people are acting like. The fable series is pretty much dead now while this game is selling beautifully and will most likely be remembered at large as another positive notch in Bethesda's belt.

I agree the dialogue has been gutted and is pointless in its current form. Might as well just remove it because it would yield the same results on progression.

I also agree that Skyrim is a very shallow and dissappointing game

I disagree with the rest of your opinion though. The game is not bad by any means. It is a great game in its own right but certain story aspects, story pacing, dialogue, and the heavy focus on FPS gameplay does hinder it's full potential

It helps if you stop thinking about it as an RPG and start seeing it as an open world action game with RPG elements. I get my RPG fix from smaller independent studios, I don't expect it from Bethesda. It isn't how I'd like it to be, but at least I avoid disappointment.

No man, it's too harsh to describe it as Fable III, one of the greatest turds of the gaming industry - or even worse - gothic 4! It is more like Piranha Byte's Risen II. But yes I definitely share your disappointment as a long time fallout fan who was waiting for something different than this...

It's comments like this that allow me to not take this post seriously. To jump the gun and assume this guy is a CoD and Destiny player just because they don't share your opinion.

Personally I enjoy FO4. And yes the complaints have been here with every new Beth release. People [censored]ed that Oblivion wasn't like Morrowind. People [censored]ed that Skyrim wasn't like Oblivion. And don't get me started with Fallout 3. With the introduction of a new property by Bethesda previous "original" Fallout fans condemned Fallout 3 for not being like the previous titles. Oh boy, and New Vegas people complained that that was like, get this, FALLOUT 3!

Understand that games change. This is a new Generation and with a new Generation things change. You're, of course, entitled to your opinion, but understand that this "opinion" is nothing new to Bethesda and they honestly don't care because in the end Ben the people that say it isn't good will still play the [censored] out of it.

I did no such thing, though. I merely said I would expect nothing less from a fan of Destiny and CoD, which the gentleman I was addressing is.

This game is perfect for such types, I have a different taste in games and so I consider it to be shovelware.

Definitely not a rpg, just a standard 3rd person / 1st person openworld shooter.

Agreed, sadly it's the reality though. Any AAA game masquerading as an RPG in the future will in fact actually be an open-world game with light RPG elements, in reality. Creating characters will be a rarity, silent protagonists will be unthinkable and and system that isn't immediately understandable and capable of being mastered by a three year old will be slammed as clunky and archaic by critics.

AAA gaming is Hollywood now, it's brutally depressing but it's the way things are.

What killed fable for me was the guns in the fantasy setting after that the series slowly started to fade from my sight I still enjoyed 2 but not so much 3. My feelings for fallout 4 and 3 are nowhere near and I mean NOWHERE NEAR!! my feelings for fable 3 and 2. So to me I dont agree with you op veeeeery much dont agree. I played fallout 3 nv and 4 they all feel like a "fallout" game to me just in different area with different rules.

Again, you're essentially dismissing their tastes and opinions because they're not yours. And you're being offensive about it, what with the "perfect for such types" bit.

Just a FYI, I have NEVER heard that phrase used where the implaction that "such types" were seen as anything but completely inferior.

Some folks hate change. There is nothing wrong with that, but you just need to find a new game if t his one no longer makes you happy. I'm an old time gamer who enjoys many different styles. I've been playing Elder scrolls since the beginning and the Fallouts. I haven't played any 1st person shooters since I was younger..so probably Quake when it was first out, so not sure why you think that you are somehow more special than folks who play them. They are all games, meant for fun. I don't poke fun or feel superior about people who like to play tetris either, it's all personal taste, plus I like a game of it myself from time to time.

I may not agree with every change made with Fallout, but I'm having a great time with Fallout 4. I don't want to go back to arena, or the original Zelda, secret of evermore, chrono trigger, gates of baldur ect. I loved them when they first came out, but I'm happy to move on to new things. If you don't enjoy changes, stick with the old games or find games that are more old school to enjoy, but I think you will be disappointed if you think that the games will stay the same, never evolving. Some of the changes won't be your best choices or mine, but you can't make everyone happy. I for one would of loved karma to be in, and more fleshed out so that it had some larger consequences. Many hated the karma, so no surprise that my wish was not fulfilled.
