FALLOUT 4 BOWS

If bows are added to Fallout, then micro-nuke arrows are a must.

i guess can make a Nuka grenade version of it.

the easiest implementation without too much coding is integrate with grenade and molotav into arrow impact. then we will have explosive, cyro, fire, plasma, pulse, and nuka

This Fallout is admittedly my first one, but as somebody who's played Morrowing, Oblivion, Skryim, even EsO I really don't think adding bows into the game would make fallout too much like ES. "Skyrim with guns" is a saying that comes from paid journalists who are scrub game players and just write reviews to promote sales. Half of them probably didn't even get more than 3 hours in. But also at the same time let's not delude ourselves - ES and Fallout are essentially the exact same thing set in different types of universes, one is fantasy and one is post apocalyptic - of course their game mechanics are similar or near exactly the same, they're Bethesda games, if they weren't similar I wouldn't like one of them. Still though, I don't see how having bows is too much like Skyrim but having stuff we already have like hammers and swords isn't. I mean really, how easy do you think it would be to get ahold of a "Chinese General Sword" in an apocalypse versus bows which are sold in most department stores across North America lol - also ?I don't like to compare games to other games, but Warframe does bows superbly and it's a sci-fi game - another reason the "bows feel like Skyrim" argument is invalid.

All they have to do is Fallout-ize them and make them more modern bows. We don't need a sanded wood bow from 1123 but a modern bow. They exist for hunting and sports irl so it makes no sense not to have them. Also interesting to note, irl basically every civilization on Earth had developed bows in their early history - completely independent of eachother - even if every single bow burned when the bombs dropped it's not too far out of human knowledge to construct more.

I've sunk 50-60 hours in the Fallout 4 so far and I've been purely a stealth sniper - using my silenced shotgun only if needed or inside places. So a bow is completely up my alley in how I'd play the game. A nice thing about a bow for somebody with my play style is that it would give decent short to mid range combat - unlike snipers which svck up close unless you hipshot (and even then it svcks because you miss so no point). Using a bow inside a building with tight winding hallways versus using a sniper inside... I know which one I'd rather do.

Also wanted to say thanks for the idea, prompted me to make an account here and share my thoughts :D Yay comment #1

We already have a kind of crossbow, named Fatman.

I am very much for bows and crossbows for Fallout. However it does not matter wether a bow or crossbow can be build easier than a gun. I doubt that btw. The pipe guns are partly simpler than a bow/crossbow where you need a flexible material to store the power.

The problem for guns is always the ammo. In my opinion you cannot craft ammo in Fallout 4 for a reason. All ammo is found, not made. You can craft an arrow or bolt easier than a cartridge, in the sense that you don't need powder. Contrary to rounds you often can use arrows or bolts for several shots. Such weapons would be of great use in a post-nuclear world.

From http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_Bible_6#The_Vipers. If one doesn't want to see bows or crossbows in the game due to their recent association with the fantasy genre, that's fine. They still exist in the setting and I think they're appropriate tools to use for surviving post-apocalyptic America.

They would not be as effective as bullets but I suppose the arrows would just be wood and steel for regular arrows, steel and ballistic fiber for light weight faster airows, wood, gas, and cloth for fire airows, Maby wood and a cyro cell for freezing airows, and wood with a gama round for radioactive airows.

I don't see how that will work. A railgun uses magnets to launch a projectile, so the bow will need a barrel of some kind. Second, pulling the drawstring gives you almost no benefits if the magnets are accelerating the arrow, since the power from releasing the bow would be overpowered by the magnets. It'll only slightly increase the speed of the arrow. Since the bow part is clunky without being useful, you're better off attaching some kind of rifle grip to it. So, you've made a gauss rifle that shoots really big projectiles.

I'm just distraught because there will be no way to mod a bow into the game since they surely won't be releasing means to animate in first person, like the CK for Skyrim. Besides, with Bethesda's polishing, and probable usuable resources due to TES games it couldn't be that hard to implement. I'm glad how many are coming around to this idea and backing it, while providing their own ideas regarding the matter, I just wrote Pete on twitter about this too. Keep flowing your ideas guys.

They'll release a CK for Fallout 4 sometime early next year. And don't cut modders short- if there's enough of a want, they can make a 1st-person bow animation.

Hell, a group managed to get FO3 use true iron sights. And that required a lot of tinkering to get the weapons to line up right.

True. After so many years of Skyrim modding i am actually surprised at how many things have been made possible with the Creation kit, and other tools.

With some luck there might be some left over animations from skyrim that might make the dream true.

Yes please, because bows would make sense in the context of the in-game universe.

None of the "arguments" against adding them have anything to do with fallout. All these meta-comments crying about bows invading the pristine gaming realm of shooters, and how tired people are of them...yawn.

You might as well demand the removal of armor, guns, food, jumping and knives "because it's all been done before".

Totally agree with this. They aren't going to be the most efficient thing whenever you're going to get one shot and then have to take the time to reload your arrow while being hit with a barrage of bullets from a full auto weapon or while running your ass off when you realize that you really shouldn't have fired that stick at a deathclaw. I understand that it could be useful for a stealth build though, and there could be some good implementation.

A bow would be a realistic starting weapon in a game like this if guns weren't so common place. I suppose you could add things like explosive arrows, and there is the fact that they could allow you to retrieve your arrows which could make this invaluable while playing on survival as a last ditch weapon that you could easily keep stocked for ammo.

I also have to inquire though, what would a bow fall under as far as skill set though? Is it buffed by strength since you would need better strength to operate something like a heavy duty compound bow or would it be agility since you would obviously need to be quick and efficient in reloading and aiming? These are all things that I don't feel are considered too much when requests like this are made. The novelty is the attraction and while I can see the attraction I just can't see it being implemented with a game that's already made.

Point in case was when in FO:NV they brought back spears and similar thrown weapons. I loved using them just because they were incredibly satisfying and could fit well into a melee stealth build but weren't very practical later in the game.

No, I'm very against the idea. In a world where a type of gatling gun exists that can literally fire beams of energy as lasers, a bow is just primitive. The only reason it would be added would be as fanservice to people like you, not because it makes sense (because it doesn't).

Bows would be fun, bit crossbows from mods will be enough for me. I'd prefer Bethesda work on new story and/or new sandbox features.

The Tribals in Fallout 2 did use Spears, so why limit this?

Well this is also a world in which people commonly fight with wrenches, pipe and pool sticks and not just because these things are there, but because they are the best weapons people can get their hands on. They even go through the trouble of modifying these primitive blunt weapons with razor blades and knives. So a bow could be seen as a highly advanced weapon as well.

Well Im certain that the Bow if added will be better than some of the Heavy Weapons in the game by more than an unfair margin too.

Anyhow more weapon animations is a nice thing even so.
