In all the Fallout games they give you some kind of background before you start playing. In one you were a vault dweller looking for a water purification chip, in Fallout 3 you leave your vault to look for your dad In New Vegas you’re a courier with a dent in your skull. Well for Fallout 4 I was thinking why not try something a little different. This idea actually came from Futurama, why not start the game out as a civilian from before the war. You can do it kind of like 3’s where you start out as a kid and grow older. Maybe have a radio or TV on in the back ground that show the tensions growing as you choose your special stats. Then you eventually get a job that will affect your skills later in the game. For example being a scientist increases science, repair, and medicine, while being a robber increases your stealth, lock picking, and melee. Then, finally the last sequence of the game shows you going off to work as the bombs start to fall. At this point you start making your way to a military base; along the way you get the tutorials like easy locks in an ally, picking up a gun from a dead police officer to save a family, or finding stimpacks to heal a wound. Eventually, it all ends up with you getting to the base and they put a bunch of survivors in to hyperbolic tubes (this is where the futurama part comes in), and then you wake up 200 some odd years later with a fresh start.
I also got some random ideas that can go with it like:
It’s rumored that the game is supposed to be in Boston, maybe a bunch of people from the institute find your pod and you have to escape/work with them.
For people that want to be ghouls you could choose an option to not enter the hyperbolic tubes, which in turn causes you to turn.
Maybe you have the narrator explain what happens to the world around you with a slideshow.
Maybe if you help people in the tutorial they get in a tube and wake up after you. Then go out in to the waste to thank you. Or if you screw people over they show up as ghouls that try to kill you.
Anyway that pretty much all I got, please tell me what you like/don’t like. What you would do differently or completely skip. Or maybe, you can tell me what your origins story would be.
