Fallout 1 color problems

Post » Wed May 26, 2010 7:04 am

I recently got the fallout trilogy, but after installing it i started to play fallout 1, during the game I am seeing splothces of green and blue where they are not supposed to be, is there a way to change the video options, because in the main screen when you start up the game there is only the options to new game, load game, credits, and quit.

This is a common problem. (The trouble with playing a ten-year-old game on a newer computer.) What always works for me is alt-tabbing back to windows, and then clicking back into the game again. Sometimes this takes a couple tries, but it's always worked for me. It refreshes the graphics in the game, and usually gets things back to normal.

There is some combination of compatability mode and admin mode that results in proper colors every time for me, but I can't remember it now, and don't have the game installed... try to mess with those as well as the alt-tab option.

This will be blasphemy to many people here, but I really hope for a PSN/XBLA rerelease at some point, which would run perfectly.

yeah ra PSN/XBL release would probbaly get the first two games into the hands of a lot more people and probably make Bethesda some money which is never a bad thing

Killap's Patch can be used to play Fallout 1 or 2 with a DXwrapper (but you loose the movies ~so its not worth it unless you have no other option).

Don't know if this would work, but if you're using windows xp go into
Control Panel > Display > Settings > Advanced > Troubleshoot
and turn down hardware acceleration

Doing that fixed the problem in Fallout 1 where the screen blacks out for me, anyway. Just remember to turn it back up when you're done playing.

Ho ho ho, this is the Fallout engine we're talking about. :coolvaultboy:

Jesus Christ himself would have to miracle the Fallout game engine onto PSN/XBLA. It's far too temperamental, proprietary and finicky to be ported. Just trying to mod it is a Herculean task in and of itself.

The poster child of an "impossible to port" game.

Yeah, for it to be ported it would have to be redone from scratch.

Yeah, hit your windows key to minimize it and go back in works for me, too. Also you could turn down the color quality on your monitor, but the other way works faster.

I just bought the trilogy today, and I had the same problem at first, but I switched to the Hi-Res version that installed with the game and it fixed the problem for me.
