I personally loved his work with Fallout 3 and thought it caught the atmosphere perfectly. It helped set the tone and brought the world to life.
If not Inon, then who would you like to see working on the soundtrack?
I have a feeling I may represent the minority here (judging from discussion in the Fallout series discussion sub-forum), but I personally liked the ambient music in Fallout 3 and would welcome the return of Inon Zur based on this work.
Though there's definitely a substantive argument that like most things in Fallout 3 it was incongruous with the series at large.
I like the original fallout music a lot.. Inon did a very very good job with making music that fits the world, I just want it to be as awesome as the music in the originals.. I think he prob could do that but I just want to be surprised!!
I like Inon Zur also. The main theme is great. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=29YQq7r3P-o
Loved the music in Fallout 3, wouldn't mind more of it.
Mark Morgan's work on Fallout 1 and 2 was exemplary. Inon Zur's in Fallout 3, complimented it well, though it came across as a bit more organic at times. Curious if we'll have something totally new, or just updated versions/remastered etc. from the earlier games.
-always had the radio on- ...There was music...?
I liked most of the atmospheric ambiance in Fallout 3, but wouldn't be devastated if they went for someone different who brought something entirely new to the table.
I never overly liked the music in the first two, and felt it was just the best they could cobble together on a limited budget with limited time and resources. It was never that thematically consistent or well-suited to the universe frankly. I mean, it had nice moments, but it hardly defines the series to the extent that Jeremy Soule defines TES.
I loved Inon's work with FO3 but wouldn't throw a world-ending fit if he doesn't make a return to the series. The music in the original games was great, as it complimented the world well, and that's all I can hope for in a soundtrack. Although, I wouldn't want to see excessive resources allocated to just music. Employing the help of, say, Hanz Zimmer would seem like a waste of their budget -- not that he isn't a talented composer, I just believe that a selling point for FO shouldn't be the soundtrack. It should be the world the music was built for.
I had hoped they got rid of Zur, but from the theme in the trailer it seems we'll get a generic Zurtrack this time around too.
What a shame.
Agreed on that. I loved that theme. "When Swallows Come Back". That said, I would love to see Zur and Mark collaborate on this project.
I hope Inon Zur comes back and composes the ambient soundtrack for Fallout 4, i vastly prefer Fo3's ambient soundtrack to New Vegas's.
I was watching the trailer for yet the infinity + 1 more time yesterday when my mum (87 y.o.) walked by and said "Oh, that's pretty music, what is that?" I then proceeded to show her the whole trailer, F3 and FNV trailers/intros. She wants to watch it all again. She was mesmerized by the game world and just couldn't believe it! Amazing the generations TES games can impact and draw in with even a simple trailer.
We do seem to be a minority. I'm surprised we made it 10 posts before the usual anti-Fallout 3 comments started
I think it's a new record for the Fallout Forums. This calls for a celebration!
The soundtrack is one of the few decent, non-offensive things FO3 did differently for the series.
I wish they had hired Mark Morgan again, or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zu8q8YkJJmw. The latter might've breathed a new kind of dread to the soundtrack (and Mark is working with Inxile at the moment anyway so his availability is questionable).
This of course was what made having a few radio stations to swap in from time to time, a nice touch. Considering Skyrim had a lot more music than Oblivion, I would expect at least the same increase with Fallout 4, especially given the memory available on the new consoles.
And hopefully unlike Skyrim, the in-game soundtrack won't be crushed down into a dreadfully low bitrate.
I'm also hoping for some regional soundtracks. They did some for Skyrim wilderness areas, but cities were noticeably absent from regionalized soundtracking.
It would be awesome if Mark Morgan was involved, but I don't think that is the case. The guy who composed Fallout 3's soundtrack did a good job too though.
Inon Zur. He made a proper theme leitmotif for the franchise, first heard in FO3 and returning here.
