Is Fallout 3 considered cannon to Interplay

Post » Sat Apr 25, 2009 3:20 pm

This just a thought but will gamesas ignore the cannon established in Fallout 3 and soon to be released New Vegas? With all of the soap opera drama going on between gamesas and bethesda I would not be suprised. I noticed they conviently forgot to list Fallout 3 as a choice for favorite Fallout game on their Fallout mmo website. Just wondering......

Fallout 3 isn't an gamesas game. That's why it's not on the list. And I think the word you're looking for is canon.

I would actually argue that Fallout: New Vegas might be somewhat canon... seeing as most people who worked on Black Isle Studios moved on to work for Obsidian Entertainment back in 2003.

I am almost 100% certain that there are more people who worked on the first Fallout games, working on Fallout New Vegas, then working on FOO.

But who knows... I might be wrong...

It's hard to get someone's opinion of a game that hasn't been released yet.

edit: I think you're right about the design team for that game though.

True... I am just a bit glad that we have atleast a few people working on Fallout games, that worked on them in the past. Be it here on FOO... or on New Vegas. It does not garantee anything, but it's still nice. :)

I do think though that gamesas will have to take Fallout 3 as canon, because it's Bethesda that ownes the IP now, and they are the ones who decide what is canon or not now.

So, depending on when and where FOO will take place, gamesas probably will have to take FO3 into account.

A question though... do we know when and where FOO will take place?

The developers can deem it to be canon if they want too. Will they though? Only time will tell.

They probably do not have the rights to use any new content introduced in Fallout 3 and New Vegas. However, they will probably try not to contradict these games in any major way either. The Vault - Fallout Wiki * Fallout Online * Fallout IRC Channel * Fallout: New Vegas

I doubt use of canon is breaking copyright terms of use. So I do hope that they include the canon of the few mysterious "Lone Wanderers".

To me, it doesn't matter. I had fun with all fallout games and I will continue to do so. I am just really interested on a few things though. Like in the video I swore I saw the name Harold carved into the wood of the table. I am sure that was just fan service but who knows lol. Also in the pic one guy had the duster clothes. So there really isnt alot of acknowledgement to fallout 3, but that was just a small fraction so who knows really. I do think it would be an interesting thing to combine both worlds. Like seeing what they took from your choices you would have made in fallout 3 and see if it affects the MMO world. Going back to the Harold thing, would he be alive or dead.

I believe they are restricted to new content and content from older Fallout games (and possibly from canceled ones like Van Buren), but cannot include anything from any new Fallout games published by Bethesda. I'm sure they will try to keep the game consistent with them, though. The Vault - Fallout Wiki * Fallout Online * Fallout IRC Channel * Fallout: New Vegas
