Fallout 4 crash in specific area

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 6:51 am

Bizarrely enough, for me the crash area is the same size but shifted one block to the west.

I personally just ran into this bug and ended up here while looking for a fix. It happened to me first maybe ten hours in, but I ignored it since I didn't really have to go to this area. Now I'm at a point in the main quest where I have to head in there.

It's fitting how there's a kind of a half-life to when people statistically have played the game far enough to encounter this bug. Now more and more people are having the same problem and we're hitting critical mass.

Yes, i used quicksave along with regular saving from the start.

I'd be happy to help. Some of us have already gone back to find good saves so if you wanted an uncorrupted save and a corrupted one from an hour or two later, i could give ya that. Any word on when there will be a patch?

Yeah, that's exactly my point, their focus on Monsignor is misleading. Cambridge seem to be a much better name, since this problem affects a whole district

Thanks Frott :tops:

Let's keep the save files to PMs. I've sent the link to our team to investigate.

Nice to see a response from Gstaff and the Bethesda team. I am sure this has been pointed out, but recognizing this thread lives under PC hardware/ software, I just wanted to mention that I have the same problem on PS4. I have read others commenting on the problem on Xb as well. Would love to get a sense of whether this is a patchable issue or if (I dread this) one needs to start again.

I created an account just to offer my savegame if you're interested. Send me a PM with where to send it if you need another save!

Given that this seems to be a recurring trend with Beth games, I gotta wonder if this is related to this crashing problem. I don't use quick saves at all, and have only CTD'd once or twice and I'm around 30 hours in.

EDIT: Another thing, for those on the PC, what are the sizes of your save files? There has also been a history of having save files that skyrocket in size very rapidly and then start having problems.

Since the problem is universal, any applied patch show work for everyone. Assuming it's not a problem with nvidia.

My outline of the problem looks different to the image above, but I can't really place as being a rendering issue because in fly camera, which doesn't render beyond the view distance of the player, it shows the highest texture cells overlapping on the hell zone from both north and south.

From both sides, the centre is close enough to see, but perhaps not close enough to spawn something, like an NPC.

That said, running "ToggleCellNode 0", which enables and disables NPCs on the engine doesn't improve the issue, nor does "ToggleScripts", so if its not a graphics issue, NPC issue, or scripting issue, WTF is it?

but i'm pretty sure this crash is happening on PS4/XBOXONE and those don't have quicksaves I believe.

They do have quicksaves. Are you on the PC and experiencing problems? Just out of curiousity how big is your save file?

Ah, OK - I was seeing complaints about how it didn't work the same way but I guess those are unwarranted.

My file sizes are a natural ramp up:

http://imgur.com/MXZ2Dnm

the one from 11/14 on 5:07 was around the time i found the bug and had to use workarounds.

my 13MB file has 84 quests completed, 43 mics, 7 main, 29 side, 17 brotherhood, 22 minutemen, 6 railroad

215 locations discovered 70 cleared

that 9MB file has

46 quests, 29 misc, 7 main, 14 side, 1 bro, 20 minutemen, 1 railroad

152 locations discovered 38 cleared

So it seems about 2x more stuff done and 50% more places been with 50% bigger file. Nothing crazy?

Also as I had mentioned earlier in the tread, yes, quicksave could be it but i'm playing the game with about 12 other people and we're all quicksaving a lot :) bug only hit me :( one other guy had the silver shroud radio starting the quest not working. that's it

It took me ageees to locate my save, I remembered half way through that I could just quicksave and it'd be easier but I was dedicated to finding it the hard way by that point. There was no going back.

my save sizes went up gradually as i progressed, nothing to report there.

I was so excited to see red names at the bottom I didn't bother to check if they had said anything yet, lol.

Maybe it would be helpful to update the first post with a more general description of the bug, just saying that it is a general crash that occurs when entering the Cambridge area, so that people coming to the thread for the first time are less confused about the whole Settlement quest/Monsignor thing.

Can't wait for the patch!

There are dozens of lying, corrupt, CEOs in the World, but you choose Todd as one, even though he lied only a couple of times. OK then.

I thought I did! The Morsignor Settlement bug I only mentioned in the Original post, after that I said it effects the area and even have a bunch of workarounds about other quests but I'll make it more clear that the settlement quest isn't the trigger in a sec. Cheers

It's all in good fun. besides I don't think making jokes about BP oil's CEO would be very relevant to a fallout bug thread.

yeah man, your OP is solid, i think. anybody who cares to know the depth of the issues caused by the crash will take the time to scroll down just a bit and see just how many quest workarounds you have posted.
