Fallout 4 crash in specific area

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 8:35 am

Okay, so I am having the same problem, crashing to desktop once I head over the bridge from Monsignor Plaza. I noticed this issue during the mission "Boston After Dark". I looked through my saves and found one without the crash 22 hours behind. I also found a save that has the crash at 20 hours behind. I went in-game and compared the two quest lines and I have compiled a list of active and completed missions.
Before Crashing Occurs:
Active Quests:
Cleansing the Commonwealth (Faneuil Hall)
Quartermastery (Medford Memorial Hospital)
Dependency
Raider Trouble at Somerville place
Unlikely Valentine
Confidence Man
--> Speak to Vadim (Completed)
Out of the Fire
Human Error
Kidnapping at Greentop Nursery
--> Talk to settlers at Greentop Nursery (Completed)
Road to Freedom
Taking Point: Sunshine Tidings Co:op
Curtain Call
Miscellaneous
--> Get the Latest Issue of Publick Occurences
--> Investigate the Museum of Witchcraft
--> Bring A Mutated Fern Flower to Solomon
--> Check out Wanted Poster
Completed Quests:
Hole in the Wall
Here Kitty Kitty
Vault 81
Cleansing the Commonwealth (College Square)
Quartermastery (Mass Pike Tunnel)
Semper Invicta
Call to Arms
Old Guns
Benign Intervention
The Lost Patrol
Raider Troubles at Nordhagen Beach
Painting the Town
Story of the Century
Taking Independence
Raider Trouble at Oberland Station
Taking Point: Starlight Drive-in
Fire Support
Sanctuary
The First Step
Jewel of the Commonwealth
When Freedom Calls
Out of Time
After Crashing Occurs:
Active Quests:
Quartermastery (Beantown Brewery)
Cleansing the Commonwealth (Wilson Atomatoys)
Dependency
Raider Trouble at Somerville place
Unlikely Valentine
Confidence Man
--> Speak to Vadim (Completed)
Out of the Fire
Human Error
Kidnapping at Greentop Nursery
--> Report back to settlers at Greentop Nursery (Completed)
--> Rescue Settler From Monsignor Plaza (Completed)
--> Talk to settlers at Greentop Nursery (Completed)
Road to Freedom
Taking Point: Sunshine Tidings Co:op
Curtain Call
Miscellaneous

Completed Quests:

So naturally I tried to recreate the same steps and completed the 3 missions that differ between the two saves and I was unable to recreate the crash to desktop. I think it may however have something to do with the NPC that I rescued from Monsignor Plaza, as when I left I walked towards the Bridge and it "temporarily froze" and then was fine. I believe that my first play through I just fast traveled to the Greentop Nursery. It's a very odd glitch and tomorrow I may play around with it some more.
I would like to progress into the game, but if I was to use the save that isn't affected I would lose almost 24 hours of playtime. ;/
If you or anyone would like me to upload my saves, I would be more than happy to do so.
The playtime on the two saves are
[Crashing - 1Day 6Hours 44Minutes]
[Stable - 1Day 4Hours 54Minutes]
If you can think of any other information that would help, please let me know so I can add it.
Thanks.

I didn't ever get to monsignor plaza. if you look back at my map you see i don't even have those areas discovered so if it does have something to do with one of those quests, it doesn't require that you have interacted with the area since i never went over there.

unfortunately, it could have also been some place you walked near differing in the two playthroughs. One step over and you might be loading different aspects of the game... one of my friends has an issue with the silver shroud radio not giving him the quest. those beacons proc in an area, for example.

It is interesting that you loaded a game then repeated exactly the same quests and it doesn't crash. This makes it seem like it has something to do with an event or movement proximity.

you can upload your saves to dropbox and pm them to Gstaff if you want bethesda to have them, he got a bunch from people earlier today so I don't know if he's looking for more or what but it couldn't hurt.

Made an account just to post this: Another quest that's bugged for me is Butcher's Bill 2; it's part of the

Spoiler
Railroad quest chain
. I'm on the 'Find Agent Blackbird' step (the first step, 'Go to the dead drop for Dr. Carrington' is completed). Maybe you can add this to the 'no workaround yet' list.

I want to attach the quest location to this post (minor spoilers for other building locations I guess, if you care about that sort of thing; it's just a screenshot of the minimap) but I can't post links yet. It's on imgur at KnfjLe2

Edit: BTW that entire blank space around the marker I haven't been able to enter because the game crashes in that region every. single. time. Super frustrating, and I'm probably gonna switch to the new Starcraft expansion this week.

Edit 2: Fixed! The quest ID is RRR01b, and it turns out it's a repeatable quest so your location may be different from mine. Make sure what the quest ID is by running

sqt

and if it's RRR01b and the 'find agent' location is inaccessible for you too, then use

player.setstage RRR01b 300

to move to the next step. To see what you missed out on, just search Youtube for 'fallout 4 butcher's bill 2' to watch it instead (I can't post links -_-)

Gamespot claimed to contact bethesda before, and a lot of us here contacted bethesda via support, but we are still yet to see at least some sort of anwer from them. Which kinda makes me think that they have no idea what the hell is causing the crash and what can they do about it. I can deal with the fact that such a huge game like Fallout 4 has bugs and that we had a misfortune to experience them, but It really grinds my gears when we are being kept in the dark here.

Hi there,
I found this topic yesterday, and I was a little bit worried about losing a 50h+ savegame.

We have tried to find a correlation between quests, and it turned out to be quite a fruitless pursuit, it's unclear what causes it

Yeah, I understand, that's why I posted this, maybe It should help.

But I think, the biggest help should come from Bethesda, not from players ...

It's entirely possible that it's not caused by a side quest, but by a random encounter, like the junkyard dog or the moonshiners.

well we know that they are at least aware of and looking into the problem, as evidenced by the admin coming in the thread earlier and collecting some files from people. I suspect that he'll be back tuesday with an update, at least I hope so.

While you're there, could you offer a sacrifice in my name, that He might continue to allow rugs to be magical artifacts that transcend the collision boundaries of more mundane objects?

Has anyone tried iterating over spawning every NPC in the game? We should be able to rule out NPCs if that doesn't crash it.

I have two different characters. One has progressed further than the other with no crashes and one hasn't progressed very far but starts crashing near Monsignor Plaza.

I believe I might have a fairly good idea why my game starts crashing.

I cross referenced my quests on the 2 characters and found these 3 quests to be the difference between the two:

The character that crashes have completed these 3 quests, which the other has not:

Taking Point: Hangman's Alley

Raider Troubles at Sommerville Place

Ghoul Problems at County Crossing.

But somehow I do not believe these quests to be the problem.

I think the problem is actually with "The Lost Patrol" quest (this is not confirmed).

My Character that does not crash aquired "The Lost Patrol" quest from Paladin Danse.

The character that crashes aquired "The Lost Patrol" quest from National Guard Training Yard during the quest "Ghoul Problem at the County Crossing".

My idea is that the game crashes if you get "The Lost Patrol" or maybe any other type of quest that can be triggered in the wilds, but is tied to a timeline in the game.

Any thoughts on this??

On the character that I was experiencing the crashes with, I acquired The Lost Patrol from Paladin Danse. Additionally, that character did not complete any of the minutemen quests you mentioned above.

Quick question, has everyone here who has experienced the crash at any point encountered and killed hostile members of the Children of the Atom?

Hmm, can everyone open your maps, take screenshots, fire up Paint and mark the perimeters of your crash zones.

If JoeBBBB can add those images to the first post, we can use that data, to narrow down the common overlaps and cross reference it with all known events in that location.
