Fallout 4 crash in specific area

Post » Thu Nov 26, 2015 11:35 pm

That post and my quote was removed. But as I mentioned in the other thread, if there is a real post limit than clogging it with speculations is probably worse than anything else, so I'm going to bow out of the thread unless something else comes up. I want to try the draw distance to see if that works, when I get home.

Peace all and good luck.

Also, I really liked the game and think it is solid. As a developer myself, I understand how one person with a problem can make it seem like the entire effort was in vain haha, but thanks to the CMs, devs, whoever (i know you're synths please don't kill me)

Fair enogh dude, as I said to Bird Flipper just check back every now and then for a update on OP. I'll stay and reply to anyone that needs help or if somebody posts a workaround. Thanks for all the help you've provided, was good having you here

And true about enjoying the game, it's great and I'm sure the bugs will be patched out.. This thread has never been a complaining-thread but just a place we dicussed the crash, try to make it known along with help others with workarounds and we appreciate all the responses we've had :)

Reducing Fade/Loading Distance did help me a bit, I could get past the river in the Sanctuary but still crashes when I get too close to something. Will try to narrow the area where it crashes.

It's almost certainly related to the workshop OR the building mode for me. I circled around area where I crash, to somewhere I could activate build mode. I activated the build mode, but it crashed.

This problem with area crashing may not be the same thing for everyone.

EDIT: It also crashes in Red Rocket when I try to build. Interestingly enough, I can walk there with no problem, no crash, but fast travel crashes. I wonder what's the cause of that? It appears that Workshop isn't the reason, it's something with building mode. Perhaps an object or something?

Man, this is starting to annoy me in a way I had not expected.

I had assumed I would be able to do quests, and after doing X quest, I would crash. This isen't happening.
I have now done Combat Zone, the entire Silver Shroud quest, Pinkmans Gallery, The Devil's Due and Curtain Fall and still nothing.

I will try Minutmen next, but I don't know.

On another note, I haven't crashed any other place. Not in Red Rocket or Sanctuary.

It is surprisingly annoying.

Damn, over 200 people are reading this, most of which are guests. Bethesda really needs to fix this, and fast.

I have the exact same problem in the Boston common where you have to follow the freedom trail ( a part of the main quest) and it also CTD there every time for me.

the game has been running smooth for me for a total of 2 days and 3 hours. and it suddenly happened for me. I hope Bethesta will patch it soon.

if it helps any, the way i did it is i did not turn in the quest "Reunions" and then did everything around the BOS, Silver Shroud and went back and forth in that area without a crash. I turned in reunions later, and i have not had any problems with any of the surrounding quests, killed northy no problem, and can go back and forth in that area.
so maybe it has something to do with Valentine and the Reunions quest.

Finished Reunions, still nothing. Currently, I'm trying to get Preston out of Sanctuary so I can turn in my quest and move him somewhere else.

Speaking of which, anyone knows how to move an NPC to your location? ( No, spawning another copy with player.placeatme does not work )

Half an hour here and there, that's it (that it's been left running). But I usually close it out when I'm not playing because extended alt+tabbing has caused issues with FO4 for some reason... You're also assuming that I sleep for 8 hrs; normally go to bed between 5-7 am and wake around 11. And I'm self employed, working from home (I just haven't gotten much done since 12:04am on the 9th). As for the level, that's a LOT of building in settlements and doing random exploration outside of quests. I am only just now on the Glowing Sea. Have I mentioned that I've been building settlements a lot?

Alright... done with the random banter. My apologies for the unnecessary and off topic pvssyr.

Wait, are you annoyed because you aren't crashing? I wish I had your problems, heh

Yes, somewhat. And I know it sounds strange.

I have been trying to discover the Mysterious Quest X, that circles Monsignor Plaza and making the whole area crash.

Like when Newton had to invent calculus. (Yes, I just compared myself to a mathematical genius.)

To discover and report, where no player has reported before.

Unlike him, though, I am unable to solve my riddle-... Ok, enough.

I was trying to force a crash, so I could report the troublesome quest. The more I play on my new game though, the more I suspect it is something one cannot "solve" by playing.

I have been posting my progress throughout the thread.

I am starting minutmen now. :P

A couple of other commands to play with are "stopquest" and "resetquest". I tried stopping all my quests in "sqt" but it didn't change anything. I might have had more luck with resetting them, but I haven't tried it yet. Maybe that will help narrow down the issue if resetting any of them actually fixes it.

Pretty sure we have eliminated the issue being related to a quest. As I have the issue, and I went back to a save and did the same quests in the same order and it did not crash the 2nd time.

Havent had trouble in the area yet, just finished the BoS recovery quest and headed toward Goodneighbor from Monsignor (Havent unlocked Valentine yet).

You guys should send the save game to the devs in a way or another, a crash dump from running the latest build with debug options on would probably help solve this issue.

Not sure if there is an console command to activate the asserts debug options but could also be useful.

this is happening to me with the slog - can't approach it from any direction or my game will lock up. (it's not a clean CTD, which blows; it freezes with the sound running, and commandeers my desktop so i can't kill the task, so i have to hard reset.) experienced absolutely no issues on my previous save, which completed the game, and had zero issues reaching the slog on a fresh save. not as gamebreaking as not being able to safely wander cambridge or boston proper, but i'm concerned it'll spread to other areas too. fun!

22 pages and no Bethesda comment. Great customer support, they got their 3/4 billion and don't give a sh*t about the community anymore. Will NEVER pre-order a Bethesda game again.

OK well to be fair to Bethesda they did comment on page 13 or 14 and asked for save games and said they are looking into it. It's only been a day since then, but they have said they are looking into it specifically.

I'm now getting frozen anywhere near GoodNeighbor, this is after an invisible gun glitch while fighting the super mutants near the entrance to GoodNeighbor, where I can only see my hands and not be able to use any weapon. If Im somehow able to beat the mutants without any weapons and I go to save, FROZEN. If I bypass and sneak right to the door? Then I get a loading screen that never loads.( Waited half an hour just to make sure.) I can now not even continue the main story line... Of course this is after it freezing in the vertibird for the BOS mission every time I tried that one... I love the fallout series... but I spent 90 bucks on this game and the season pass...and now I kinda wish hadn't. I'm on the PS4 as well, so its not a computer issue. Please help

Well my computer is outdated so i have all of my display settings on as low as they go. So for few distance you can change the settings in the game launcher. I have yet to see how much farther from the greentech building i can actually go but i doubt it would be much farther.

For quests that have been affected by the dead zone that i have manged to do anyway are: hunter/hunted,emonge takes a lover(or whatever its called) and the bos quest. I would assume the reason for this would be my view distance, i can't think of any other cause. I can't do boston after dark or northy however :/

Update: I put all my view distances at very high yet was still able to get to the greentech building, i manged to walk/fly ontop of the mon plaza but then crashed.

Hi everyone. I made an account just to post here, as I've started having CTD problems as well. I've been playing since launch, with over 50 hours of gameplay on my file, and I had absolutely no problems until I acquired several of the quests frequently mentioned in this topic, such as Dangerous Minds and Shadow of Steel and its follow-up quests.

The weird thing is, I haven't even been to Monsignor Plaza yet, and I'm getting CTDs seemingly at random. I crashed at Hubris Comics, then things were fine for several hours. Then I crashed near The Slog, rebooted the game, fast travelled to Sanctuary, and about 5 minutes later, I crashed while using the weapons workbench there. I'm really want to say it has something to do with the Brotherhood quests, because I had no crashes whatsoever prior to the Brotherhood showing up in force, and it really seems beyond coincidence that so many people are having issues with these same quests. I know next to nothing about the internal workings of the game, but could it possibly have something to do with the Brotherhood's increased interactions with the game world after Shadow of Steel? (in addition to the Monsignor Plaza issues)

I really wish I had something more to go on here, or more information to give, but I've had no error messages, no other performance issues, nothing. Just a black screen, then suddenly I'm on the desktop. :(

don't mind me, I'm an idiot and thought those list of quests were things that we have found are broke, not ones that go though monsignor, Ill make a new thread.

if you're getting a startup crash, what worked for me was: OK, Firstly, this issue is [censored], we've all been there, 30 different drivers, reinstalled 20 times, i just about lost a kilo of hair with stress, lol.

Secondly, my computer is not under-powered, please check the minimum specs before anything else. I have a i53330 @3.80GHz, 16GB ram, multiple SSDs, and a GTX 960 4GB.
Thirdly, I tried many "tips" to get it working first, including altering my ini which did nothing lol.

So, basically, right click the fallout 4 icon on your desktop, then go to properties.
Now, make sure that it isnt set to open as admin in the "compatibility" section.
Next thing to do is navigate to Documents (my documents on older systems) to find your "My Games" folder.
Find the folder named "Fallout 4" and delete it.

Open the game and enjoy... at least i did. Good luck and have fun guys :)
