The name of the quest is Unlikely Valentine.
However now he is just stuck looking at a wall and it just says "This individual is busy"
Great.
***FIXED***
Went to where the Skinny Malone encounter is, the Vault door wasn't open so I had to use the command 'tcl' to get past it and open it from the other side, then I put Nick next to me and he ran through it...
Update
These were my steps:
1. Open console and type player.moveto 001a8c9d
2. Kill the guy outside the door, hack the terminal then talk to Valentine.
3. Follow him and complete the quest like normal.
4. If Valentine gets stuck on a light in the underground area then go to the Skinny Malone encounter
5. Use the console command tcl to get past the vault door (it will be closed, well at least for me it was) then open the door from the other side.
6. Move Valentine to you but be on the side of the door where the Malone encounter was by typing in console moveto player 00002f25
7. Complete quest like normal.
Finally after 2 hours after trial and error, these were the best steps that I made to finishing the quest. Hope I helped. ^-^
Glad to hear you figured out your problem. I'm not sure of all the steps so if you could create intructions similar to that of OP, i'll link it to here. Thanks man
That's awesome dude, really detailed. Linked to in OP thanks again
You also got this bug after finishing the kidnapping quest at Monsignor Plaza? Because that was one of the last 3 missions I did before the bug showed up for me.
Do you remember if you fast traveled with the NPC or if you walked back to the settlement? I feel like it has something to do with fast traveling with NPCS, but I don't really know.
Game crashed for me a few times while entering & exiting the wooden ship - SS constitution or something.
No solution, just be sure to save the game often.
I have the same problem, if I am getting too close to the C.I.T. ruins the game "crashes" (just instantly goes to desktop with no delay, error message or whatsoever). Plenty of save games available.
Somebody just needs to record a playthrough and travel to CIT every 15 minutes lol
Hello everyone. Been following this post for a while, but I just now made an account on here. The fact that there always seems to be about 100 people following it makes me a tad bit nervous.
I want to say thanks to JoeBBBB to compiling the guide on how to complete the quests if the deadly bug rears its head. And a thanks to the moderators for not locking this thread, as it seems really important...
Anyways, I just wanted to say that I have been playing the game about 20 hours now (I know people will laugh at me for my low hour count! Oh, to be a full time worker and student at the same time leaves little free time, I'm afraid). I went to the area people are saying that's regarded as buggy and it seems my save is okay. No crashing whatsoever, thank goodness. So against the judgment of my friends (and myself) I've decided to put the game down for now. I just don't want to get far enough and have to redo 20 or whatever hoursworth of content. I already don't have much time as it it, anyways. And I've read just cause my save is okay for now, doesn't mean it won't be corrupted in the future, so I honestly think this is for the best. I've read every page of this topic so I know the devs have acknowledged the bug and I see the "Crash during SoS mission" on the official bug page. Little bugs like showing the wrong number of settlers or having to reload to open inventory isn't a problem, but this seems to be devastating and is causing a lot of grief for many people.
What worries me the most is that it's not just that mission that people crash on, because I didn't see anything else on the official bug page relating to the area the crashes occur. Ech, so many thoughts running through my head right now... I guess what I am trying to say is that I fear this issue won't even be resolved or dealt with during the first patch, or any time for that matter.
Hi! Thanks for the thanks... yeah that made sense, I really appreicate it!
My hour count is 10 and I'm still commenting on this thing hahaa. A few people have expressed they're worried about the crash and I realllly wouldn't be, the number of people that have completed the game is a lot. The chances of you getting the crash seem really low, unfortunally we have no idea what causes it hence the 25 pages
The bug doesn't just effect the BoS mission, I have it in my log but haven't actually done Shadow of Steel (I'm super far behind so looking forward to playing again). I tried to write on the offical bug thread that is doesn't just effect that quest but they didn't change the description but added me as a 'report', that's fine though as the guy that keeps that thread up to date does a real good job.
Thanks again, here to help if you ever do experience the bug (I really do doubt it tho dude, you should be fine. Even if you are the unluckiest guy ever and get it, I'm willing to bet on a patch fixing the issue)
Also you read every page of this topic wow, I applaud you ahaa
R.I.P all your inboxes to those who follow
heavy mod users of skyrim are extremely familliar with papyrus logs appearing to show the scripting getting behind in the game and corrupting saves.
in skyrim this meant you really needed to cut back on the number of mods you were using or you had one mod in particular that was really causing scripting issues.
likely most people now dont run mods in fallout 4 at this time. I am betting that certain areas in the game are not doing a form of in game load balancing well (as a result of missed or failed triggers). I want to say there is a command for reverting only specific triggers for specific quests. that likely will translate from skyrim to fallout 4. i hope this helps or provide more info than you all already knew. good luck!
its an unfortunate consequence of being a developer for the game. they know exactly how the scripts should behave and when triggers should kick off. so that is what they test for. what is next to impossible to find are bugs where user A starts a quest ... doesnt finish it, starts another quest that is tied to a follow up quest that also has triggers from the previous unfinished quest and manages to still inadvertantly meet the conditions to kick off the next quest which breaks the save. imagine a tree where each branch requires the previous 3 branches to meet at a certain point to succesfully proceed to the next branch etc etc. It can be a night mare hunting down this kind of bug.
For what it's worth I seem to have been able to narrow it down to some saves that differ in played time by an hour and 43 minutes.
Comparison of quests active vs quests completed

I found another @JoeBBBB, it may be a repeatable quest, but I don't think we have a workaround for it yet. It's mostly (I believe) to be a "go here get this" quest, but I'm not sure how to use console commands to complete it or get to the location.
Quest:
Weathervane: Camp Kendall
CTD: When crossing the bridge near the quest area
Has anyone been able to complete this quest?
Hey All,
Have the same issue with moving around this area. I have 2 saves that are 1 hour apart. One can enter the area, and the other cannot. (I check by using coc CambridgeCraterExt). The difference between the two saves is pretty minor. I cleared Faneuil Hall, then moved to the Trinity Tower trying to do the "Guilded Grasshopper" quest. The first save is in the middle of Faneuil Hall, while the second save is in the middle of Trinity Tower. If mods want my 2 saves just let me know, though I figure they might already have all they need by now. Another thing I recall is I might have switched the game difficulty in between this time period from Normal -> Hard. Not sure if anyone else here happened to have done that or not. So I thought I would just throw that out there.
Haha, hey man you can do whatever you want, but I had this bug and restarted from an old save that didn't crash and have since then not crashed in that area again in the 11 hours I've played since restarting. I can understand being wary of the crash happening to you; but if you want to continue playing without worrying so much about crashing, I would recommend simply making new saves often and every one or two hours fast travel to the crash area to be sure you are still unaffected.
I feel bad for those of you who are still playing your corrupted saves not knowing whether or not it will matter. And there's still no word on when there will be a patch after they've had our saves for 3 days? Just embrace the sweet little bug and restart, lads.
Also, what was the deal with that mod earlier removing some posts that spread misinformation? What did the offender say? Just curious.
I would just love to hear from Bethesda if there will be a patch that can fix our saves, or if we're going to need to start over. If we need to start over, that's fine I'll do that. If our saves can be fixed, great I'll just do side quests until then. When I don't know one way or the other then I'm reluctant to play at all. I don't want to put in 25 hours more on a new character only to have my first fixed, and likewise I don't want to put in 25 hours more into a broken save that can't be fixed.
So I'm not trying to rush Bethesda for a patch, just so much as a mention "Oh yeah, your save is SOL" or "The patch will fix your save" is good enough for me. I've seen it go both ways in bethesda games and all I'm asking is a statement one way or the other from Bethesda so I can finally play again.
My problem was when I go to the area in the west where the two bridges cross, I began having massive slow down which eventually turned into crashes. What still amazes me is how it manage to corrupt all my saves and not even a reinstall, changing setting in the ini files or updating drivers helped.
Those are exactly my reasons I'm not playing the game anymore. :/ I'm 20 hours in and I still feel like I've done a lot. Spent ages on my settlement, more than actually playing the game. Doing that all over again... -shiver-
Sounds like a plan. That's not a bad idea, honestly. Then it'll be easier to track anyways. BTW I watched the video from the link in your sig. Reminded me of 'Ace of Bioware', another video of similar fashion. Make of that what you will. XP
That iss strange, I feel like the glitch started around the time i changed the difficulty as well. Anyone else experience this?
Had a thought. Bloated saves often crashed skyrim, modscripts running that shouldn't etc. Could people go to my documents/mygames/fallout4/saves and arrange the saves by date, then see how the savelife size goes?
I deleted my earlier saves so can't check beyond two days, but even then i see that the save keeps getting larger all the time.
Could be worth some info, my save went up from 4.5 to a 5.7(quicksave) and 4.9 regular save in just a day.
