Fallout 4 crash in specific area

Post » Thu Nov 26, 2015 11:08 pm

I'm also having this issue but on a different quest called "Ad Victoriam", it's a brotherhood of steel quest, *spoiler* I have to follow a huge robot we built in order to attack the institute. Here's the location on the map where it happens: http://prntscr. com/ 92eyzz (remove spaces) . I've tried going around but whole area is like that. I've also tried reverting back to an earlier save (got one with the previous quest) but as soon as I fast travel to this area it crashes. I've already had to become unfriendly with institute in order to advance a bugged quest, and now this. Glad we have to pay for an untested game

EDIT: Was able to fast travel to the police station and go back from there and I skipped 2 stages of the quest, the robot keeps doing it's thing and opens the entrance regardless of quest stage. Hopefully I never have to come to this area again. Nor will I ever pick up a game from bethesda at launch, this feels like an alpha stage game

Ah alright dude, that quest is waaay further into the game then I am so unfortunally I can't help that much yet. If you open the console write 'player.sqt' and where it says 'Current quest: M500' The M500 being a example, send me the that number (the M500) - it's the quest id. There might be a few there, whichever one you think is the current quest send or send all if you want and I'll find a workaround for you and others. Sorry if thats not clear, tired asf ahaha.

edit: nevermind, you found a way round, if you do that tho then I can post a workaround for others or you can explain what you did and ill update first post. Cheers

That was taken down quiiiiiiick

you can try it on https://www.reddit.com/r/fo3

i guess the throwaway name rustled some jimmies right dere

Wow, okay then. I sent the mods a message asking why it was removed. God forbid aomebody uses a throwaway to make a post about a gamebreaking bug.

Yeah, that really svcks. If I had to guess I'd guess it was the name of the throwaway, I think the people on Fallout forums are getting annoyed at anything complaining about the game even if its a friendly warning -_-

Still try r fo3, I think its more active atm anyway.

Hey guys, good news, the post is back up so please go upvote it. It was an issue with the automod deleting posts by new users.

Signing up as a victim of this glitch, I can't do the main quests... And no I won't start a new game, I did a f^ ton of effort into my character (around 35 hours game time)

Bump. There is an unofficial bug index thread on page 1 right now, they mention a ctd during hunter/hunted but i dont see anything mentioning that it is due to a certain location as we have determined. As a side note, there are a lot more bugs than i had imagined. I have a feeling it is going to be awhile before bethesda patches all these. :(

Also, our reddit thread for this bug is already pretty low on r/fallout's new/rising section, i doubt many people will see it due to all the new posts in that subreddit every minute.

Yeah I didn't expect it to get to the front page of the subreddit, this thread is getting quite a few people here so people know about it. Haven't seen it dip before 15 people, usually around 22.

If there ain't a diamond encrusted troll that is taking magically turds in the middle of the area with a wonder horse, I aint gunna be happy either

Add "Emogene Takes a Lover" to the list of quests with problems.

I'm experiencing the issue as well. I'm on PC, although I doubt that matters given its not platform specific. What I can guess at though, is it happens when we approach the river, I usually get fairly close to it when it happens.

I would try downgrading my NVidia drivers, but again, apparently irrevelant.

I notice one thing on my PC that occurs during the crash. My HDD usage spikes to 100%.

I'll look into that quest in a little while, just doing something atm. If you can post a quick screenshot of the location then it'll make it easier. I'll check the HDD/SSD thing too, not heard bout that yet

I'll also try to create some quick videos for some of these bugs that don't have them

Had this problem a few times now in different missions, found a working route for the first mission but now I am stuck on the "Emogene Takes a Lover" quest.

The current location is in front of Vault-Tec Regional Headquarters building walking down the street towards the river.

Will do tomorrow, with the hope its fixed by then for the weekend :S

Its definiately triggered by a script or graphical glitch though, most likely the later actually with all the vertibirds flying around.

I did a "tfc" and flew through the area, no crash, but then my character wasn't technically there so nothing was rendering, and no event were triggering.

If you want to know where I was right now, it was on the east side of the broken draw bridge, looking over a small ship wreak. There is a tiny island with a "glowing one" sitting on it. I tried to lure the ghoul to me in the hope he was the cause, but no dice.

Anyway, if we assume the map is loaded in accordance with a grid, then that spot would be the north eastern part of it. I was looking for a way to disable all scripts, while I entered, or see if its possible to find out what event might be triggered in the area.

Edit:

Yeah, that red spot on the bridge. Its the same on the other side of it, and up the bank from it going west on the other side.

Same exact glitch is happening to me too. It happens whenever I get near the Monsignor Plaza area or the combat zone. I encountered the bug first on the quest to find Nick Valentine, and I can't get anywhere NEAR that area without the game crashing to desktop. Whenever I load a save near that area after a crash, the save won't load and just crash me right back to desktop. I haven't had this problem on the outskirts of Boston. I hope this issue gets patched, I'd better not have to start over with a new character to fix the issue...

Could it be related to the UFO encounter? I haven't had this crash but the area seems to be around where I was when I saw an UFO fly across the sky then crash.

I haven't even seen the UFO yet. I'm starting to get the crash too right outside of Diamond City. The game just lets me play for a few minutes and then BOOM, crash.

The hasn't happened out in the wilderness... Yet.

Silver Shroud quest workaround

This quest is outside so I can't spawn you near the person unfortunately but like the rest of the Silver Shroud quests, you just have to kill somebody so we'll use the console to do it.

1.) be told to kill Northy

2.) open console

3.) player.setstage MS05 900

4.) continue with quest

told waay longer then i'd admit, it had like 1400 freakin quest numbers.

and don't re-install if you just want that area fixed guys! heard other people do this and it didn't help, only restart is Bethesda said so.

Just to add to the list, Boston After Dark in the Railroad quest line is also affected (exact same symptoms, crash to desktop whenever entering that same specific area, north of Monsignor, west of BADTFL).

I can confirm the Boston After Dark issue. Can we add that to the "we don't have workarounds for this yet" list? Hopefully we can find something.

It happens right as you start to follow H2-22 to wherever he's going.

I think we should make a list of the currently affected quests. So far I see:

1. The Silver Shroud:

-Kill Northy

2. Boston After Dark

-After leaving with H2-22

3. Emogene Takes a Lover

4. Bos Quest while taking virtibird

Edit: Derp I should have looked at the first post in the thread :P

Cheers dude! Ill take a look at Boston After Dark and Emogene later (check back in hour or two?). I just done the Silver Shroud one but doing one last thing in the quest before putting it on first post. Really appreciate the list

I'll take a look but might take a while as I'm not that far

I've been having the same problem, my question is can i keep doing other quest and wait for bethesda to patch this or would that result in me loosing all the save progress since the issue? Do i have to load old saves or can i keep going and wait for a patch to do the quests in that area? Loading old saves would cost me 5 hours. :(

Hey dude, cheers for postin

Yeah, lots of people are avoiding that area but continueing. We have workarounds we have posted so people that are still playing can get further into the story without having to wait, it's not ideal but its the best we can do without a patch. If you desperately want to access the area then you'll have to load back.

I'm not sure if you'll need to start a new game when a patch comes out but I'd doubt it, I've not heard of that happening in any other Bethesda crash. So I'm pretty confident a patch will fix the problem and you can access the area, just gotta wait til then hence the workarounds ;)

best of luck dude

1 more post til 100 so post some random stuff :D
