Fallout 4 crash in specific area

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 5:31 am

Hi to all of you. I want to share my experience with you about this problem. I play in PC via Steam.

Lastnight i went by first time to that zone and my game didn't crash i crossed all that area (up and down, east to west) and arrived to Monsignor Plaza and i played without problems (even i kill many enemies in that bulding and liberate a citizen) but i saw a hugh decrease in graphics performance it seems as if the area had graphical problems or something wrong because in other areas i don't have any problem with fps or graphical performance. I played in high settings with 900p.

I complete "A little Saint Valentine" mission before to go to that zone and without any mission active, just exploring the map without any mission indicator in the map. Maybe that helps to prevent that bug i don't know. Also without any mission from Preston Garvey (that called "Go/Explore to Monsignor Plaza")

Maybe i was lucky but i really hope that Bethesda fix it. My game didn't crash but is evident that area had a graphical problem.

Tried some of my old saves and i found the last working savegame.

Its right before i finished the "The Lost Patrol" Quest, at that point where i have to Investigate the Satellite Array. All the saves after that are corrupted

Maybe i can help with my savegames if someone needs them.

Now i dont know what to do. Wait for an (hopefully) upcoming patch or play my old save, dont do the "The Lost Patrol" Quest and hope that this will help. But i played over 50h and the good save was at 23h ..

Sorry for my bad english

well, the wording is kinda problematic and misleading sometimes. What you call an area is a location. Whereas an area can (but not necessarily must) contain several locations.

see the wikia link is called Fallout_4_locations (I am not allowed to post links)

Furthermore, this is even more complicated because locations in Fallout 4 are often part of an area, e.g., open locations like Sanctuary.

Considering people are getting it at multiple locations and loations that they previously visited just fine I highly doublt it has anything to do with cells. I highly doublt beth went to the trouble of changing that many cells based on some obscure triggers. More likely either save corruption for what ever reason or just as likely some global setting that gets changed for one reason or another and doesn't sit well with some trigger checks in one place or another. Who knows...

I'm at 2d13h and everything still seems to work.. mostly. Then again I did about 4 quests... and just barely left the porch. Just the usual settlements losing their bloody resources till I physically load the cell. No serious "bugs" besides that. Building nightmares aside... god forbid you want to rotate that floor this way and not that way and find you you now have to spend 2 hours looking though out all the nearby built structures to find that ellusive one that prevents the rotation from being possible... good god.

Ignore the rant unless you are really bored:

It's been more then a decade since beth released something that wasn't broken in more ways then not and since they gotten extra important it's pretty much left to "others" to fix their games. So this could get completely ignored and instead patch will fix some localization UI issue or some such.

Here hoping for a good unofficial community patch and hopefuly it wont turn into opinion enforcement like with skyrim, that got to the the funny point of having a patch to fix a patch that fixes a patch. Tsk. At least Fallout doesn't have spell absorption... Or they would screw it up even after 20 years doing it over and over again(the hilarity of opening CS after every new dlc to fix something you know they screwed up without even needing to see it).

Ah well... This is still a pretty damn good game(buggy as it is). And it finally smells like an actual Fallout! Guess anything is possible :chaos: Now all I need is for TES VI to actually somewhat look a TES game and not a generic rpg and I might start liking beth again... just a bit.

Also... why can't I get bloody spell check to work... my interwebz grammar makes even my own eyes hurt... and I come with tollerance towards typos ~_~

Hey again guys!

So.. I got bored.

Restarted again. (Yes, a 3rd time, previous two saves are 80 hours total, 30 / 50 or something.) On the 30 hour playthrough, I expirenced this bug like many of you guys.

I made a new character and was able to access the area. http://imgur.com/4TVcJoQ

This 3rd character is also able to access the area in which most of us have trouble, right away. I'm going to play this playthrough without rushing the main-quest like in did in the 2nd, but I will get back to you on the progress.

My conclusion: Restart. =)

so the workaround posted in the first post works great for rocket's red glare. i've essentially 'beat' the game at this point and will revisit the area tonight to see if i still crash. i heard once you have beaten the game you will no longer crash. i'll report back with my findings.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I have heard more than a few people have Kidnapping at the Greentop Nursery active when this happens... Or some kidnapping event in that affected area...

Also, what was that "Miscellaneous" quest that wasn't present on the good save?

Nope. I don't think we will have any until the patch comes out.

Didn't notice that quest. It's "Search for tech in Boston Mayoral Shelter".

Played my good save for a while and i just completed the Kidnapping Questline without a problem, game still doens't crash. Last time this Quest was broken for me. I'm gonna do the Lost Patrol Quest now to see what happens...

Just wanted to chip in; also having this bug. Oddly, it seemed to go away for a while yesterday when I had to shut down my computer due to my power going out, but I was just on the edge of the effected area near the atf office and may have unknowingly avoided the area. Now though I am doing a quest right in this region and it has completely blocked me.

So I went to Monsignor Plaza to find if the saves are bugged, I've cleared the area and I've entered the building with no problems. So I've started Silver Shroud quest and I've crossed the bridge; here I've encountered some massive framerate problems (two times, few seconds) and I went to Goodneighbour. I was chased by Supermutants so I've run to the entrance....and the game crashed. Scared i've tried again, eliminated all the enemies, walked slowly to the city....it works. So probably a normal crash , hope I will not find this problem.

I agree. I also run in few times in that zone and the game seems to crashed so i stop and walk slowly and it works.

can you people who have this crash tell me if you have done trinity tower related quests, or just visited trinity tower at some point? I know that it's been mentioned before but I still would like to get more info on that

Last time I got strong, then cait, then valentine. I noticed I had the bug with cait, but BEFORE unlocking valentine from a previous save.

dunno if getting strong then cait caused any issues. One thing though, I fought to the top of the tower to get strong/rex, but I didn't ride the elevator down cause I lost him lol. I fast travelled to the bottom and he was no where to be found, since he's still waiting at the top up there.

But for sure the bug can happen before you get valentine.

I loaded old save, got valentine first, then cait, haven't gotten strong yet, no bug yet so far.

I've done monsignor rescue already before in both saves to rescue kidnapped farmer.

Maybe the order you get companions affects something.

Seeing how many people play Fallout without ever getting the CTD I feel at this point like just starting over instead of waiting for a patch that might take days or even weeks. But here's my question: If you had the CTD, are you more likely to get it again? Have any of you who had the issue started over (or started over from a working save) and then got it again or did you not encounter it when starting over?

Interesting observation on this one. As i mentioned on my save the only real difference between the first save (that works) and the second save (that crashes) is that I went to Trinity Tower. In case it may be important, I did not climb trinity tower all the way yet. I was maybe 80% through the tower when I created that hard save that crashes. So I had not finished trinity tower yet, but in the middle of the process.

Game crashed for me first time i went to Boston (for the Kidnapping Quest), i think it was the area around the trinity tower whre you get the signal. But it didnt visit the actual tower.

Started from an older save. Did most quests that i finished on my corrupt save and no chrashes so far. Checked it every 30 minutes.

Exactamundo! there was this other fella by the name http://www.gamesas.com/user/977038-xerxes8933a/ who shared his savefiles with me, I've fiddled with them too and I can confirm that the only difference between crash and no crash was basically in the fact that he went up a trinity tower.

So with that in mind can someone check this out? We need to test this theory.

I've also noticed that the area where I tend to crash Is the area where Trinity tower radio signal gets lost/found in a save that doesn't crash

In the good save I had I did not visit Trinity Tower yet; in the bad save I did 'Curtain Call'. However, I went to my good save - did 'Curtain Call' again and proceeded to go straight to the bugged area and did not crash. However....I did not create a new save game after redoing 'Curtain Call', load it up, and see if it crashes then. Might try that tonight.
