Fallout 4 crash in specific area

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 2:44 am

I can stand literally 10 meters in front of the Greentech Genetics building, but if I walk just ONE meter more towards it I get the crash. I also performed a little test by saving in that ten meters in front of the building, and when I went to reload it later it said the data was corrupted. I'm too impatient to wait next week for a patch.

Edit: I can also go to Monsignor Plaza and be perfectly fine without a crash. It just seems to be Greentech Genetics.

Having the exact same issue here.

Basically there's a crash area that starts East of the CIT Building and ends west of the Vault tech regional HQ.

there's no error message, the game just CTD in a very nonchalant fashion.

From what i noticed (and many of you already confirmed) it seems to be related to a precise event happening, since rolling back to a previous save point fixes the problem (too bad the first working savefile i have is 30 hours back :( ), starting a new character fixes the problem.

I've read that bethesda already has a save file affected by the bug, but if i can help in any way, feel free to send me a PM.

I hope it get fixed soon, i can't complete multiple quests in the area, one of them is related to the main story and basically the North side of Boston is inaccessible, thanks alot for creating this thread and letting Bethesda know!

wait..So you reload the ten meters save and it said the data was corrupted?

Impatient here either.

I'm just not sure if current charater that saved can be fixed too, wandering between start a new game and continue the old one.

Hi everyone. Can this be like a support group?

*stands up* Hi. I'm Argonian scum. PS4 here and I just got the bug. A little over 50 hours in.

I spoke to Edward Deegan at Bunker Hill. I wanted the quest from Jack Cabot so I could go get the Charisma Bobblehead from the Insane Asylum. If I walk due south from Bunker Hill and across the bridge towards the marker for Jack Cabot, just at the end of the bridge I pick up a Silver Shroud radio signal. About five feet from the cars in the road BOOM. Error. I tried from the opposite direction and nothing. I uninstalled/re-installed, rebuilt database from Safe Mode, restarted, etc., and still nothing.

Thanks for the thread. Hopefully it gets fixed in the upcoming patch next week. I know PC users will get it first before consoles. I just hope it fixes the save files. I'm a huge Elder Scrolls and Fallout fan. They're my favorite games ever in over thirty years of gaming. But I don't want o have to start all over again.

svcks dude, hopefully it'll be patched asap. I think it'll be coming to PC first in the form of beta patches but if one of them fix the bug then Ill be sure to put that in OP so you'd be able to expect it soon.

All the best

Hi Arognian scum (do not approve of the name btw, tututut), don't worry we're all friends here and victims of the plague that is the crash.

svcks you're having the bug but yeah hopefully it gets patched next week then comes to consoles asap - must svck having it on consoles without having any workarounds but at least you got to the 50 hour mark. I got to 10 hours then the bug went "lol, u cheeky bugger u aint playing this game anymore". When the bug gets fixed, I'll be sure to put in the OP if you have to restart the save or not but I personally doubt it.

Also I think you're the only person here who's a regular on the Bethesda forums which is prettty coooli have a weird definiton of the word cool

Thanks JoeBBBB. My name here is after my sinister Argonian named Skeeme. He's real scum. >:D

Four of my top five favorite games ever are Bethesda games. Lol. (Dark Souls II is number three on that list!) I hung out here a lot after Skyrim came out. We had some pretty cool Elder Scrolls RP threads and stories on those particular boards. I was an Xbox 360 player last gen and knocked out about 500 hours in Skyrim without much issue, so I didn't experience the terrible PS3 Skyrim debacle. I felt really bad for players on PS3 who dealt with that.

I make no apologies though. I'm not a Bethesda *really devoted fan* or apologist. I'm just relatively calm considering things. I understand and have to accept that with games this massive and open ended in many ways, things like this bug are sometimes the trade-off or sacrifice. They really svck when they happen, and I'll be crushed if I have to start over again. Getting upset isn't going to accomplish anything though.

I'm back to work for a few nights anyway. I also have a nutty backlog so it's not like I have nothing to play. I'll spend some time with Star Wars: Battlefront, The Crew: Wild Run, and maybe the Snoopy game. A nice user on the other game site I frequent linked me to here. I appreciate the time you took to make this thread because it's some type of solace, and I appreciate everyone else who participated. I look forward to the updates!

And this is why they dont bother with beta testing lol, they just take it on our expense because no matter how much they beta test, most of these problems would occur anyways.. so they just know that the brown doodoo will hit the fan once its released no matter what.

Its a shame that PC, is such a neglected client.

But on the other hand compared to consoles, making games for PC is a nightmare, because people have different computers, theres almost noone in the world who has the same hardware setup.

But when they develop a game for consoles, they know the target Hardware in every platform, and therefore its easy to test, and easy to forsee many of the problems.

However at some point the only way to find all the problems, is simply by releaseing it to the public.

And unfortunately PC suffers the most. ( not that i wish consoles sufferd more, i'm only saying its unfortunate that PC does not get a little more Love)

Found a solution regarding the Butchers Bill 2 Quest

Advance the quest with one of these

  • setstage RRR01b 300
    • this will give you the next objective (without needing to find Blackbird)
  • FF00CAB.moveto player
    • this will bring blackbird to you
  • FF00CA34.moveto player
    • this will bring his questitem to you

But you should confirm the correct IDs for the 2 last methods! Use this console commands

  1. ShowQuestTargets and find the quest RRR01b
  2. find the QuesttargetIDs (in my case FF00CAB and FF00CA34)

I get huge amount of crashes while exploring around in the open world. I get none of these issues in friendly towns or loading zones such as subway/underground/buildings.

I constantly quick save so I don't have to loose long distances. And when I restart the game I try to find a direction to go without getting a crash in that area.

I have not found a specific area were i occurs. I feel like it can happen anywhere any time. I have tried different refresh rates and video settings.

Tried to reinstall game and start a new "story". Nothing works. It has come to the point were I just have to avoid to go to a bunch of places. Which makes questing impossible.

I don't think it has anything to do with hardware. Running on pci-ssd, 4930k, 3x 780ti classifieds, 32 gb ram. Updated all drivers and such.

Have read a lot of posts but I am not getting the feeling people have such high frequency of crashes while walking around as I am experiencing.

Tried different .ini settings and windowed mode also. Hope a patch comes asap.

The weird thing is that I'm getting a freeze instead of a crash, and if I load another save, the game crashes in that area like the rest of us, if we could get a log of that freze...

Exact same problem as David_King in the exact same area, on 3 seperate playthroughs, definalty has something to do with rescuing Valentine, bc after i rescued him the area becomes inaccessible to me, completly sick of it now.

Told 4 friends to wait for the GOTY edition, never had a bethesda game go completly unplayable on me so consistently. If i could get my money back i would.

I honestly think PC is the least neglected. For instance we get the beta patch first before consoles, and usually consoles have more bugs. We also have all the mods and player made things that consoles lack. Not picking sides, I actually own a PS3 and PS4 myself, just stating my thoughts.

I do agree that most games today need more beta testing. Fallout 4, Wasteland 2, MMH7, Tales of Zestiria.. those are just a few that came out recently and they /all/ had a day one patch. I don't remember that ever happening with older games. Oh well, times have changed.. What can you do? lol

I was finally able to enter the Cabot House and start that quest but crash to desktop on leaving. Will just hold off on playing until a patch comes out. Refuse to start over again.

Man, I love Wasteland 2 but I griped it felt as polished as a Bethesda game, heh (I think they finally fixed the companion bug which everyone was complaining about. I am not sure there was anyone playing who didn't have that bug).

Honestly, I'm pretty willing to forgive large open world games cause I know with as many variables as there are they can't catch every single different thing that happens.

That being said, this being a pretty major bug that a lot of people have gotten and keeps you from continuing the game (especially for those of us on console that have no workarounds), I'd be upset if Bethesda isn't working on this one ASAP now that it is known. The only other major thing it seems people are complaining about in the game is the Corvega plant frame rate (doesn't bug me but on another forum that's what everyone seems to be focusing on). Personally I hope they fix the Diamond City Radio randomly stopping working bug (happens a lot to me but since it's pretty noticeable I usually catch it quick enough to go back to a save that's pretty recent so I don't lose much progress when it does). And the chameleon armor is really buggy (that is one I'm not sure they'll fix though. Basically because while it's annoying it doesn't break your game and it doesn't even break your save. It is just kinda annoying so I could see them ignoring that one entirely).

The beta is out and I'm at work! I don't see anything in the patch notes specifically addressing this and I'm not able to test it myself, could any of you guys be so kind as to opt into the beta patch and see if we still crash?

There are instructions and info about it. I'm hoping this falls under "General memory and stability improvements"

I really hope they fixed the bug. I'm at work as well. The bug kills nearly 10 quests including the main quest and effects nearly 50% of all players, so why don't fix this bug first?

Its kinda big it seems. It does not download but just install appearently. You should see activity on your harddrive in the steam-download-window. I'm really glad they finally seem to have fixed it!
