Fallout 3 Crashes with 1.7 update?!?!

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 10:55 pm

Hey I have just bought my new fallout3 and have had it crash on me ALOT over the last couple of days My specs are as follows:

Windows 7 Home premium(sp1)
Intel core I7 2600k
16gb ram
zotac tx 560 amp 1gb
Asrock fatal1ty z68 motherboard

I have tried changing the fallout.ini file as loads of people have recommended on the web
I have updated the game to 1.7 Apparently fallout has issues with a processors with more than 4/2 cores so I put this in my fallout.ini file "bUseThreadedAI=0" and underneath that I put "iNumHWThreads=1" and this still hasn't fixed it. I have just bought this game Brand new and Am really impressed with the game(when it doesn't crash) of course...any ideas?

Thanks
Any replies would be much appreciated!!

I believe the Fallout.INI edit should look like this.

Open this document up and find the line that says "bUseThreadedAI=0" and change it to "bUseThreadedAI=1"

Hit enter, and under it add this line "iNumHWThreads=2" Close and Save the document.

Also if your not installed outside the program file , you might try that.

In your original post you said you "put this in my fallout.ini file "bUseThreadedAI=0" and underneath that I put "iNumHWThreads=1". What you should have done is changed bUseThreadedAI=0 to bUseThreadedAI=1,
than immediately under that, add "iNumHWThreads=2". Is this correct? And is your game installed outside the program file directory?

UNINSTALL the game, than reinstall it outside of Program Files. During the install operation, you will come to a screen that asks if you want a defauld install or custom install. Choose custom install than type in the path to where you want the game installed. For example type "C:\", without the quotes. This will give you a path to the game like this "C:\Bethesda Softworks\Fallout 3\Fallout3". I am just using this as an example. It you want to install the game to another directory, just type the path to the directory and the install program will add all the other files and folders.
You can also drag and drop the Bethesda Softworks folder to a place outside the Program Files, but that will give you a problem down the road if you intend to use FO3Edit or anyother utilitly that relies on the registry to locate the game files.

You might want to give this a try. I have been using this for over six months and it has worked wonders for my game. A lot of different people worked on this and it makes a lot of needed changes to the Fallout 3 .ini.
