Here is a fix for anyone with these types of issues:
"At random intervals, the game freezes and exits to the desktop. The notification area displays a red balloon with a message saying that the GPU has crashed"
"I am receiving crashes whilst playing fallout 4 on PC. They occur about every 15 minutes. They start with the screen freezing but the current audio continues to play (eg background noise, if dialogue is occurring it starts to loop etc), then the audio begins to glitch. The only solution I have found is to hit the reset button on my PC"

Step 1)
Open NVIDIA Control Panel --> Manage 3D settings.
a ) Go to Program Settings tab.
b ) Add the file you launch the game from by clicking on Add button.
NOTE: If you are unable to locate the .exe file, you can right click on short cut and go to properties. Select Open File location. http://imgur.com/XImZOj9
c ) In the Program Settings tab:
change the 'Power Management Mode' to 'Prefer Maximum Performance'.
change the Vertical sync to Off
change the Threaded optimization to off
change the Triple buffering to off
IMPORTANT:
Set to these settings and click on apply.
Step 2)
Open "NVIDIA Control Panel" > "3D Settings" > "Manage 3D Settings" > "Global Settings"
a ) change the Power management mode to Prefer maximum performance
b ) change the Vertical sync to Off
c ) change the Threaded optimization to off
d ) change the Triple buffering to off
IMPORTANT:
Set to these settings and click on apply.
Step 3)
a ) Go to the Registry Editor (Press Windows Logo + R and type "regedit" in the Run window and click ok)
b ) Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SYSTEM -> Current Control Set -> Control -> Graphics Drivers (make sure Graphics Drivers is highlighted).
c) Right click -> New -> Select QWORD (64-bit) value -> Name it: TdrLevel -> double click it -> add 8 for the Value data and click ok
These steps come from the support team at NVIDIA and have worked on four different systems, all running the NVIDIA GeForce Control Panel.
This fix is not guaranteed to work for your problem however, it does seem to work for many systems.
