How would you install it without the disk in the first place?

EDIT: Or do you have the disk which can install the game, but can't play it?

You don't need mods, patches or the disc for that matter to run the game from your harddrive.

Just choose humongous installation in setup or perform a full manual install.

Manual install:

You'll need to place the following files into the game folder (C:\games\fallout2\):

- fallout2.___ (1,13 MB) - rename to fallout2.exe
- master.dat (318MB)
- critter.dat (150MB)
- data folder (74,8 MB)

Then create a text file with notepad, copy/paste the code described below and save it in the game folder as fallout2 with a .cfg extension:

Humongous Installation code for fallout2.cfg file:

[sound]
music_path1=
c:\games\fallout2\data\sound\music\
music_path2=(CDROM):\data\sound\music\

[system]
critter_dat=
c:\games\fallout2\critter.dat
critter_patches=
c:\games\fallout2\data
master_dat=
c:\games\fallout2\master.dat
master_patches=
c:\games\fallout2\data

If there is no music try changing music_path2:

[sound]
music_path1=c:\games\fallout2\data\sound\music\
music_path2=
c:\games\fallout2\data\sound\music\

* Depends on the Fallout2 target directory. Normally it's situated at C:\Program Files\BlackIsle\Fallout2\ - I recommend installing FO2 elsewhere than into the Program Files folder.

If this is your first playthrough I wouldn't utilize any mods, only the official US/UK patch depending on which version.

You may also need the high resolution patch if you use Vista or higher because of the psychedelic color syndrome ...

and some other patches are preferable if you own the European version; like the childrens patch for example.

Mods? Try Killap's F2RP + update 2.0.2e (all patches included.) :tops:

Check: http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=54328&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 & http://falloutmods.wikia.com/wiki/F2RP_Technical_Info

http://www.nma-fallout.com/ is the place to be for mods/patches/tech regarding Fallout 1&2.

Read the readme file before installing killap's mod + a clean manual installation is advisable because Fallout 2 is NOT as modable or compatible with lots of different mods as Fallout 3 - too much tweaking can corrupt your save games or the game itself!!! As I found out not so long ago screwing up my evil character saves with hours of game-play on them. Oh well... [censored] happens!

Cheers!

There are a few programs like ccleaner, errorexpert, etc ... with an uninstall feature.

http://www.google.com/webhp?hl=eN#hl=eN&q=force+uninstall&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=&fp=ddaad785462b6469

Or

Do it the old skool way. Go to target directory: C:\Program Files\BlackIsle\Fallout2\

Highlight all the files & folders and nuke'm... huh... I mean press del. :D

Don't forget Vista has a nasty habit of splitting up directories. That's why I recommend not to install in the Program Files folder. Don't ask me why it's a Vista & Win7 thingy.

So also nuke all the files in (Vista/Win7) C:\Users\"yourusername"\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\BlackIsle\Fallout2

You can delete the folders: BlackIsle and Fallout2 - if you're going to install FO2 somewhere else next time.

It's probably a good idea to use http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner afterwards to perform a general cleanup & register scan.

Et voila FO2 is uninstalled.

*Edit* I forgot to mention: if you're going to perform a full manual install next time you might want to delete BlackIsle folder in

C:\Users\"yourusername"\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\BlackIsle

as well because you don't need this folder in your Start Menu. It only clutters up your PC. Just make a shortcut to fallout2.exe on your desktop.

Even when fully manually installed?

Open the fallout2.cfg file and check if all paths refer to C:\"game installation folder" not the cdrom/dvd player path; if so change it.

Follow this: http://www.nma-fallout.com/article.php?id=1593

Step by step.

*Edit* Remember only use the humongous installation!
