Fallout 3 Display Freeze everything else still works

Post » Sat Apr 02, 2011 5:04 am

The problem I've been having is about 5 minutes into the game, the screen freezes, and I can still hear gunfire and my moving feet, I click and my gun fires, as if the screen freezes and the game continues to play.

Upon Ctrl + Alt + Del, My screen is black, then I have a No Signal message on my display, I am forced to restart, once rebooted, everything is sweet again...

Mind you this happens EVERY TIME I can't know when it will happen exactly...

Here's what I've already done, so to save you some time:

I've done that iNumHardwareThreads=2 bUseThreadedAI=1

I've put it in the exeption list for FFDSHOW

I've got 1.7

Defragged

Got the computer running 3gb application allocated memory, and had the Fallout.exe 3gb enabled

I've ran every setting down, turned everything off, ran the game with every ounce of Virtual memory AND Physical memory I could give it

I've got Intel core 2 duo CPU's 2.40ghz

Running this my computer on the newest Nvidia Driver 258.96

Might be worth noticing playing "World in Conflict" there is a few visual problems with the roads and some rather strange Massive triangles spiraling everywhere (Only on certain settings however, usually high stuff)

There was only 1 small change by switching the driver, my usual "Vats BSOD" had dissapeared, but replaced with this (Only in fallout, at least to my knowledge)

I switched over to another driver, and was awarded with yellow eyes on npcs (Appearing, not there on cell load, I think...) And a the same thing!, only when I opened my pipboy (The UI there went yellow) and then the usual crap

So I beg of you, wise masters of technology, come to my aid!

Did you start a new game or load a save game, start a new one if yer didn't yet.

BSOD if you ask me is a symtom of a fried grapics card, it might not be fried yet, but close to it. That's only if it's older than a year though.

Bethedsa support will tell you to roll back to a older driver when you get teh BSOD stuff. However I started using whatever driver came in the box with my card. You could get a 9800 GT for the low low, PNY is a good cheap well working card, an the 9800 they got now is 1Gb of Vram.... Might be time to start thinking about that.

These new cards we are using are so hot they last like toilet paper vs mudbutt, omg I didn't just say that out loud did I?

You could go to the start menu, then set program access an defaults. un-install a bunch of poop, then go to the windows update website. a lot of folks will claim un-installing Net Framwork or Visual C++ will clear up issues. Then also if you had went to the windows auto updates website when you installed your O/S you wouldn't need 3rd party audio codec packs just to hear NPC voices, it's a symtom of a system config conflict or messyness.

Only 3rd party software I have is Java and adobe flash player...

You know using the current driver was only a good idea when it couldn't get you into more trouble than you were already in. Could be the case you now need to clean up that hodge podge of driver poop you have on your system with a driver cleaner. Wasn't so long ago Nivdia fried 500,000 cards with a corupted fan speed problem. Yet another reason to use what's in the box...
