Fallout DLC: Old World Programming

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 3:12 am

Honestly, no matter how much I love these games, I never thought I'd say I regret my purchase. Over the past month I've been trying to complete the DLC after completing the 4 main story paths. A ton of fun. Only about 2 freezes in 90 hours or so of gameplay. But oh boy, does Bethesda have a treat for you Fallout fans! You can be the proud owner of content that may or may not work on your system! Please download Old World Blues. It's such a blast navigating through the environments to only have your game freeze every 15 minutes! Go ahead and hard reset that PS3. It. Loves it.

I really don't think there is a string of expletives that would complete the mountainous amount of disdain I feel for the performance of Old World Blues. Finally we have an interesting DLC that offers a fair share of content, and you can't even play it. What a crazy joke this is. I've never had any game suffer performance issues on my PS3 besides Fallout 3. And I don't think I've ever seen a console game lag, stop, freeze, and have to load as much as this one. Was this DLC developed in some Chinese back alley?

What does this tell you? :cryvaultboy:

It's sad really. It's just sad. I'm absolutely stupefied how this could even be allowed to be sold to customers. I'm going to try to complete it. I really am. But I don't know if I'm going to play Lonesome Road, even though I've already bought it. But I am definitely going to tell my friends who haven't bought these yet not to – because that's how business works, that's how a truly crappy product affects customer service, and this is the way your customers feel when no attempts are made to fix such an atrocious misstep in product development.

This DLC is just pathetic. :sadvaultboy:

The game shouldn't freeze and you shouldn't have to quit and restart the game constantly in order to enjoy it. I've never heard of any PS3 game performing with this behavior.

Never had any problems with the PC version of the game. The PS3 is just a difficult thing to make games for.

This. Maybe you should invest in a PC. I've never had issues with FO3 nor FO:NV and never had any issues with any of their DLCs either. I play on PC.

I own two XBox 360s. Some games are meant to be played on a console while some are not. FO3 and FO:NV are two games that should never be played on a console.

Of course, the above is my opinion; your mileage may vary.

Yeah, the thing is I actually realize they games are optimized for PC. My PC isn't exactly up and running at the moment – I need to get a new fan for it so it can actually boot – and although I've been playing games on all platforms since growing up with the Commodore 64 and NES, my work over the past 5 years or so has been dealing with Macs, so I haven't exactly maintained a working PC. Plus, most of my friends have Playstations and Macs too, so console gaming has been my primary gaming forum and the newly introduced Steam for Mac has been really cool. Ironically I actually own the first 2 Fallouts for Mac, but I don't think we'll ever see them released for the platform. My PC that needs a fan also needs a new monitor, so we'll see if I ever play these games in all their glory – mods alone are a reason to play on PC.

My main problem with the performance issues on PS3 is: why even program for something you clearly don't understand? Release it for xbox and PC only if its going to be a shoddy project.
Who knows? Maybe I should just get a xbox when skyrim comes out? I don't know. Poor Fallout . . . :sadvaultboy:
