The problem is that fallout didnt make a folder in my documents > my games

Can someone please tell me how to fix this?

Don't hold your breath. I've been screaming about this same issue since I got the game and still not ONE official response from Bethesda on this forum, Steam forum, or reddit. None. Zero. Nilch. Nada.

Make sure that the My Games directory (and its sub-folders) are not set to read only.

I fixed this by going into the properties of the My Games folder and setting the permissions for all the users to full control, and as well making sure it wasn't set to read only.

To fix the full issue, I did this:

I had this issue and fixed it.

Basically I had a friend send me his Fallout4 folder (The one that was supposed to be in 'my games', but for whatever reason wasn't created.)

I then went into the fallout folder, ensuring that the permissions for all users were set to full control; and that pretty much fixed it for me. I also did it with the 'Saves' folder, but unsure if that actually mattered.

Either way, i'm playing the game now, and it's saving perfectly! Can load, too :-).

Same issue, I've sent in a ticket and been responding to every forum regarding this issue. The fixes listed in this thread so far have not worked, and the fixes listed in other threads did not work.

I think I figured it out. It wasn't that the MyGames directory wasn't not set to Read Only. I had already done that.

The file that I had set to read-only was Fallout4Prefs. Once I unchecked it for that file, it worked. Thanks gents.

I cannot save at all either.

I have wasted almost 4 hours and played through the first section of the game 3 times, and have grown to hate it now.

I have a Fallout4 folder, but the game seems completely incapable of saving the game at all.

Another issue I and many have found is that we can only play in windowed mode as the launcher will not save the pref files, unless it is run as administrator, but as the launcher starts the game itself, there is no way of doing this for the actual game, only the launcher.

For one of the most eagerly anticipated games in the last 10 years that I can remember, Bethesda have done an extremely poor job in aiding those on PC who cannot even play the game.

"Do you have any special characters in your windows user name? I've seen cases where games couldn't create a folder in the /My Documents/My Games folder if the username was unusual. Do you have a nonstandard path to your user folder or My Documents folder?"

This solved both my problem with saving and my problem with launching in window mode.

My PC's username is "Kyle", so I don't think that has anything to do with it.

As a wild stab in the dark on my behalf:

Does anyone here have Fallout or Steam installed on a second hard drive?

..Actually, yes. I have it installed on what is considered my main drive though, my SSD.

EDIT: Just had a look, ?my other drive doesn't even have a My Documents folder to accidentally send a file/folder to.

Your main drive is whatever your OS is on.

I think I had this problem with Skyrim as it is the only game on my SSD, it is possible that there were similar problems, an engine problem perhaps.

You may want to try installing it on your main drive. I know it takes forever to download, but I have already started mine.

Yeah my main drive is the SSD, where Fallout 4 is placed.
