Fallout 3 vs. Elder Scrolls (morrowwind/oblivion) (*Spoilers

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 7:45 am

Fallout 3, very good game very addicting, i already beat the game and i have 1000 achievment points for the xbox360 consol. With that said, i was very disappointed about the way the game turned out, The Main quest alternativly ends the game if followed all the way, you only get to level 20 with the game maxing out your exp, leaving no room for errors or maxing out your characters S.P.E.C.I.A.L or Skills chart. In Elder Scrolls Such as oblivion or morrowwind, you could keep playing your game after the main quest line is done you could keep leveling up to high levels giving you the opertunity to max out your stats. Now with that said, i would like to ask wich is truly better, the game where they stop you from, in my opinion (having fun), or the game that keeps on going. I guess you can base a bias on my comment but i truly was disappointed in fallout 3 seeing Bethesda's free roam and open world games. IF they could put in a download to make the max level, i dont know say 100 and make it so if you dont choose to kill yourself at the end of the main questline, if you can keep going and playing the world of fallout. If that were to happen in my mind i would give this game a 20/10, not possible to some but to me it is. With my Opinion Aside i let you people judge for yourself and really think about your answer, so if there are enough editorial spam out there they may change those mishaps in the game, thanks for reading. I don't really get your "question" but this forum originally belonged to TES. You'll probably get a lot more replies saying The Elder Scrolls is better. Because, well, it is.

Well, you 360 owners get DLC. You guys got Achievements for Fallout. We PS3 Owners got nothing but a lesser version of a short and underwhelming game (Underwhelming when compared to games like Oblivion). I'll have to say...

Morrowind>PS:T>Mass Effect>KotOR 1&2>Fallout 3>Some other games>Pure Crap>Oblivion.

That's my hierarchy among RPG's. (Please note that the jump between Fallout 3 and pure crap is a very large one. I think F3 is great.)

meh.....I would say that oblivion is a better game because the game doesn't end when ya beat it...and there are more factions and guilds to join
That being said I think fallout 3 has a more unique feel to it. I dont know if its v.a.t.s or the world after a war :D

Fallout 3, very good game very addicting,

Thank you!

I get the most enjoyment from exploring the nooks and crannies in Fallout. There's plenty of excellent content that's not in the main quest, and a lot of the side stuff is more fun to me.

you only get to level 20 with the game maxing out your exp, leaving no room for errors or maxing out your characters S.P.E.C.I.A.L or Skills chart. In Elder Scrolls Such as oblivion or morrowwind, you could keep playing your game after the main quest line is done you could keep leveling up to high levels giving you the opertunity to max out your stats.

Is it really better to become a god within the game? I find it refreshing that you get enough skills in the game to make yourself really good in about 1/4 of the available skills. When I think about making a character, I might specialize in small guns, explosives, lockpick and repair, and have some middle of the road stats in sneak and other skills. The next time I play through, maybe it's a stealth melee speech character that I want to play as. It makes me try to think about what type of character I want to be, and how my approach to combat and other methods of play changes when I make different characters. Once I get to level 20, I tend to play for a few more hours while looking for high-level areas, or I finish off the main quest. After that, I start a new character and focus on an entirely different set of skills, and see how the game plays like that. If you never increased your speech skill the first time around, maybe you should try a high Charisma and Speech character next time. The game will be quite a bit different.

In Oblivion I would always end up working towards a character that was good at all skills, and I wound up taking the easiest path for getting the job done. That made the game not as challenging or interesting as things could have been. I could start out doing a Dark Brotherhood quest using stealth, but if I botched it and got into combat with everyone, I wasn't worried because I was so magic and combat proficient that I could kill just about anything. It would be much more tense if I had to sneak through an area getting stealth kills because I wouldn't be able to easily survive open combat. Fallout does a much better job of building your character towards a specific play style.

Now with that said, i would like to ask wich is truly better, the game where they stop you from, in my opinion (having fun), or the game that keeps on going. I guess you can base a bias on my comment but i truly was disappointed in fallout 3 seeing Bethesda's free roam and open world games. If you were a level 100 character with 2500 hit points, would a deathclaw still be scary? I don't think so. I like the feeling that I'm not invincible at level 20, it keeps the tension up in certain areas.

There were a lot of other things that I like about Fallout over Oblivion, including the much higher density of art and clutter, phrases that you can choose from in dialogue instead of topics, more interesting dungeons, more complex dialogue, targeted shots, crippled limbs, perks, and a bunch of other stuff. Wandering around outside in Fallout is much more rewarding too, as you always stumble across little interesting things out in the wasteland. I do miss the utter freedom of Oblivion's spellcrafting and enchanting systems, and the little side quests that take a few minutes to complete. While Fallout has a more archeological history told by the world, I feel like Oblivion has more of a character history. All of the races come from other regions with lots of backstory, history books, daedra, and various gods.

There are some things that previous Elder Scrolls games did better than Fallout, but I think overall there are a lot of things that Fallout does better.

More like:

Morrowind>Daggerfall>All the late 90's classics (PS:T, Fallout series, Baldurs Gate series, Icewind Dale, etc.)>Fallout 3>Arena>KotOR>Oblivion>Mass Effect>KotOR 2>[Place random mediocre Western RPG]>[Place random JRPG]>Pure Crap>Fable

Does it really matter. They're both great games that all of us have spent many many hours playing so who care which one is better?

I think Fallout 3 is better than Oblivion in the sense of logical progression, as in how Oblivion is better than Morrowind from a technical standpoint, and from the standpoint of improvement over complaints and minor issues. That is, Fallout 3 is able to improve upon Oblivion's engine, with more engaging combat (VATS) and a more varied landscape... gamesas put an emphasis on unique dungeons after many people complained about Oblivion's lack of variety in dungeon tilesets. In the same sense Oblivion is better than Morrowind due to its graphics, greatly expanded NPC freed/Radiant AI, better combat and a larger world.

That being said there is still a feel to each game, being taken in considering when it was released... I still can say that I liked Morrowind just a little bit more than Oblivion, it was really ahead of its time for a game released in 2002. It had a certain atmosphere to it, and there was something beautiful about a world where every single object was hand-placed. Even though NPCs were extremely simple, it was offset by the huge variety of factions one could join. In Oblivion, a lot of the content was not handplaced, and there wasn't even as much dungeon variety as in Morrowind. I still really like Oblivion, the modding community has done so much with it, even more than what was possible in modding Morrowind, I think.

Fallout 3 does have a different feel from Oblivion, it's a lot more desolate, and it follows a more traditional set of RPG guidelines for stats and leveling. I'm going to say its the better game on the basis of just how much has been improved compared to Oblivion... the combat, dialogue, world, dungeons, etc... But Oblivion will still always be right behind it in my mind. To me Fallout 3 is simply much tighter, more coherent and better paced than Oblivion, but they are still both excellent games in my opinion.

Don't know if this has been improved in Fallout, but stealth in Oblivion is in serious need of tweaking - what with the built-in radar which a lot of opponents seem to have, and the ability of NPC's to respond to a sneak attack made several rooms/levels away. NPC's invariably don't respond very realistically, whether it's ignoring a melee sneak attack made on ally right next to him - or homing in on the player in a pitch-dark corner after a single bowshot. Obviously, back-up skills are a must in Oblivion.

I like the elder scrolls better because of the medieval setting, magic, swords and stuff like that and that it doesn't restart at the end. Also if they would have included more things to do after the quests in oblivion other than looting respawning dungeons then the game wouldn't get boring after all the quests for example NPC's that continue to respawn new quests similar to how dungeons respawn but with quests. Fallout 3 is a great game though but not better than the elder scrolls for many reasons in my opinion.

I think it's meant to be played over and over again, like reading a choose your own adventure book and making different choices. I can see myself enjoying my second run through it as much if not more than my first. Replay value FTW! Why must it be compared so to previous games? In and of its own accord, it's a fantastic game.

Wow that game is in the crap bin too? Then I should expect a PC release soon...

I still feel that Oblivion and Morrowind were better games than Fallout 3. A game is good for me if I can keep on playing it and go back and spend more time on it. But this differs me from people because i am actually spoiled on games. The games that are definite games for me this month are, Medieval 2 Kingdoms (At the Top of my list right now 10 out of 10), Fallout 3, Oblivion, RCT 3, Devil May Cry 4 (2nd), UT3, Freespace 2, Bully, GTA San Andreas, The sims 2, and Spore. This long list of games means I'm spoiled so I pick I ones I don't like forever and leave the ones I do like. I've played so many diffrent games, I couldn't see the fun in playing Dawn of War. If I can't mod a game I'm not gonna play it for too long (You can mod DMC4 a bit)

Obama vs mcCain
