Top notch Shyamalan material right there.
I doubt it. I was thinking of the ending myself this morning. With the addition of the settlement building, I predict this will be an open ending allowing play after the MQ is complete.
if hes still in his pod he would still be in the game so you could keep plying after the credits
I'd throw my copy into the trash. Awful ending. It'd be on part with the "...It was all just a dream" ending that no one likes.
If you got to the end and realized you were just in a pod, why would you keep playing? That ending would be even worse than the retcon they did with FO3 to keep it open ended. I think they learned their lesson after that one.
I would be surprised if there wasn't an open ending that left the game still playable. The forced ending of FO3 was so unpopular that they specifically made a DLC to fix it. I doubt they would make the same mistake again after they went through so much trouble the time before.
This. And for that reason they won't do it. Everyone hates a fake-out. Very rarely does it work, and for Fallout it would never work.
Such backlash. At least they gave us a real Pip-Boy to soften the blow, my friends.
It was a cop-out in The Wizard of Oz and it'd be a cop-out in any other story, except maybe for Newhart and that one episode of Buffy. And I say this as a proponent of the tinfoil conspiracy known as the android theory.
id absolutly hate an ending like this. the only way to help it would be to rebuild the wasteland outside of it so that after you beat the game the world doubles in size
I don't think Bethesda hates us enough to end Fallout that way. Either way, they said when developing Skyrim that they've learned there lesson and they're going to stick to open endings from now on so I would be incredibly surprised if Fallout 4 had a closed ending.
Last Bethesda game, Skyrim had open ending, so i do not have any doubts about Fallout 4 ending.
I'd burn my copy, and feed the ashes to a garden.
anybody got any ideas on what the ending might be like
On the other hand ... this would be the troll of a lifetime. Imagine the flamewars after an ending like that. You could toast marshmellows against monitors.
And to play devil's advocate, I thought of another example that made "it was all just a dream" work in the most chilling of ways: Terry Gilliam's Brazil. (No spoiler tags for movies three decades old.) The Director's Cut one, not the terrible one. Imagine that sort of ending, but in a "did this happen or didn't it?" way. People would talk about it forever.
I actually love that notion. I'm a svcker for tragedy.
They did an final ending as it was used in the two original fallout games. Players, many who came from TES hated it, made worse by the idiotic way it ended, an final standoff or even just credits had worked much better. An final ending might also hurt DLC sales.
So an final ending would surprise me a lot.
See, what happens is this. You get to the end and discover you were in your pod the entire time. So you get out of your pod, go up to the surface where you find your pipboy for real this time. Then you begin encountering all sorts of stuff and find yourself in another adventure. Then you finish it, you beat the bad guys, only to wake up in your pod again. So you get out of your pod...
Well, the way I see the ending...
...A big thing will happen.
...We will do a thing.
...Someone or a lot of someone's will die.
...Some sort of boss-style fight.
...We do another thing, an important thing.
...Everyone rejoices.
...Roll ending slides.
