fallout 3 es4 engine?

Post » Thu May 27, 2010 12:48 am

anyone know if the fallout 3 engine is the same as the es4 engine?

reason i'm asking is because my comp doesn't meet the minimun reqs for es4 but i can still tweak it to run on lowest (or just a bit better than lowest) graphics settings with 15fps and get enjoyment out of the game. and fallout 3 universe doesn't have forests or swamps so it shouldn't be as hard to render.

Post your system specs. And by the way you should never opt for the minimum specs. Your simply missing out on a lot details that otherwise you'd enjoy to a greater degree. If your going for minimum specs to enjoy the game then purchase an xbox 360 or PS3. You get a good range of enjoyable graphics with a gaming console at a cheaper price then you would upgrading your computer to a gaming computer.

The minimum system requirements are
Windows XP/Vista
1GB System RAM (XP)/ 2GB System RAM (Vista)
2.4 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor (Runs fine on 2.2 Ghz AMD athlon or equivalent processor)
Direct X 9.0c compliant video card with 256MB RAM (NVIDIA 6800 or better/ATI X850 or better)

A system that -from the sounds of it- can just about run Oblivion on lowest settings will not run Fallout 3 at any kind of playable level.

The requirements are higher (Due to a couple of years of engine enhancements) and at best you will have an unplayable slideshow.

The engine is vastly different in many ways to the Oblivion engine. Barely being able to play Oblivion, I can guarantee you cant play Fallout.

owning both games. i think oblivion might be more of a system hog. slightly. Some people report better fsp or worse with F3.

the reason being, is the one you state. Due to a couple of years of engine enhancements, the thing runs more optimised. for example, the landscape lod system is better, the way it subdivides the landscape mesh is smarter, and uses less resources.

they are pretty close imo.

Fallout 3 uses a modified version of the engine used for Oblivion. FO3 has higher requirements, but it's also better optimized, so it may or may not work on your system. We can't say for sure unless you post your specs.

FO3 runs better than oblivion on my PC, but at the same time the minimum specs are higher, through shaders and such..

OP, if it's just a case of a poor graphics card, you could upgrade to a decent one for much cheaper than other options.

Thats it exactly. Fallout 3 is better optimized and less prone to randon crashing. But the extra shader and lighting effects among others mean that the requirements are higher.

thanks for the input. my system reqs meet everything except the graphics card and i can't upgrade that since my board won't take the new pci2 or pcie or whatever they have nowadays. mine is agp nvidia 5200 w/128mb. the only way to upgrade is to get a new computer loaded with win7.

the shaders can't be turned off in the ini files?

like i said, i don't mind playing on lowest reqs. es4 world on lowest w/disabled trees and grass looks like fallout 3 world on highest :)
besides, with light bright on, i didn't need torches in dark places!

already had the game on x-box. i absolutely hate x-box. actually, i hate all consoles. prefer a trackball with keyboard/zboard. so i sold that pos and i'm done.

too bad there is no demo to try it out.

Minimum required for Fallout 3 is a 6800. It's not going to run on that 5200 (Which is more of a business card)

Doesn't have to be one with Windows 7.

Probably not. Since the game depends on them to produce the graphics it would just crash before you got anywhere close to the game.

No it doesn't. Fallout 3 graphics are higher detailed, the viewing distance is long and better streamlined, visual effects are better detailed. Just because there's less colour (To represent a nuclear blasted wasteland) does not been the graphics are less detailed.

In any case, even with every setting at the minimum and the ini tweaked to the ceiling, it still isn't going to run.
