Fallout 4 "expansion"

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 10:38 pm

I'm unsure if this would be the correct place for this "topic". If it's in the wrong place, please tell me so. Anyway my question is if Killap and the whole crew that made the Restoration Project for Fallout 2 is still around?

The whole point in me asking is I was curious as to if they would consider an expansion on the next Fallout. They had done a wonderful job with Fallout 2 and adding what had been missing, etc. I think that if Bethesda ruins the game like so many are worried about, then they could perhaps do some tweaking and help create a better wasteland. (I'm not to worried about Bethesda, I think they'll pull through and create a great Fallout)

Also, sorry for possibly making any extra work for admins or moderators.

You do realize that the Restoration Project only fixed, tweaked and added things from the original design documents to make the game work like it was, at first, intended to work?
A "expansion" is different, that means that they'd have to create completely new content, considering that Bethesda most likely won't release the design doc's and if they do there probably won't be as much as Fallout 2 had.

Not to mention the issues with adding dialogue to characters who's voice acting is already recorded.

I kind of already knew all that... The lip syncing and dialogue I was already worried about, and the fact that Bethesda wouldn't release their docs. Same with the whole adding what was cut... I think Killap said something along the lines of, "The purpose of this mod is to add back all of the content originally planned by the developers back into the game and to keep it as true to the intended Fallout as possible. Additionally you will find that every location has more quests, characters, choices and items. This expansion would not have been possible..."

Anyway I realize it's more of a mod than an expansion, and that dialogue would be a problem. However plenty of people can add their own quests, locations, items etc. Through the use of the G.E.C.K and other self made modding programs. I was wondering if they were still around, because I think they would do a great job at keeping Fallout on the right path while adding plenty of content, quests and features.

Again I know the whole lip syncing and dialogue is a problem, but for instance, Harold (I believe) in Gecko had actual recorded dialogue but something had been missing so instead of attempting to add their own recorded dialogue they simply added the option to tell him you were making headway with the quest (and I think he might have replied? It's been a while).

I'm sure they're around somewhere, but I wouldn't count on them making a huge project for Fallout 4, they didn't for Fallout 3 nor New Vegas (as far as I know) so I don't know why they'd be inclined to do one for Fallout 4.

It could be good, but as they added in things that were missing I wonder how good they would be at creating stuff on their own.
Look at this for Skyrim: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=9782
It'd be cool to get those guys to do something for Fallout 4.
They've shown they can create a relatively big "expansion" (for being a mod).

:) Thanks, i'll give that a read. Well I can understand why they hadn't done anything big with Fallout 3, I mean it's got to be alot of work doing something like what they had done. Plus if they wanted to keep it true to what "Fallout was intended to be", then they would have ALOT of work cut out for them. I've got somewhat high hopes for Fallout 4 though, perhaps Bethesda will take a look at the older Fallouts, some of the people suggestions, and what they might have picked up on New Vegas and do a fantastic job. I loathed Skyrim, but then I was never a huge fan of TES.

Just read through the link you left. This group did an amazing job. I wish I had gotten Skyrim for the computer so I could have given this a try. I'm impressed they were able to do so much. Something like this for Fallout would be extremely appreciated by the community i'm sure. Thank you Gabriel for the read.

No problem, looking forward to testing it out myself.
I just talked briefly to two characters, and one of them was really well voice acted, the other one were nicely voice act'd too, but the quality of the recording was bad.
Still, the voice actors for it, ignoring the poor quality of the 2nd one and focusing on the actual voice, felt better than most characters in New Vegas Bounties II.

((I think that's the link, my internet is funky so I had to google it and I think that's the correct link))

I don't think that Killap has ever played Fallout 3.
(I'm fairly sure I've read a post that said as much; though things may have changed since.)

I'd love to see a fan-made overhaul/expansion for FO3.
(Preferably by just one or two coordinators who organize (and direct) donated community work into a cohesive professional result.)
