Fallout Experience

I thought (since we are all bored) that we could have a thread where we said the where, when , what, why, and how of our first fallout experience.

I'll go first.

I never even heard about fallout til my mom started playing it and I never got into it even though I watched her play a little. Then we stole it from my aunts boyfriend for some reason and I played on the console a little, but I didn't start really playing until my mom bought the collectors edition and gave me her game out of it. Was in love ever since. :fallout:

Fallout 2, lying in the garage, found it, installed it, fell in love with it, hopes that fallout will go back to isometric turnbased gameplay or at least have it as a separate mode.

Got interested in Fallout 3 when I found out that BGS, who developed Oblivion, was developing it. I had played Oblivion for hundreds of hours, and was sure that Fallout 3 would not disappoint. So I bought it, and indeed was not disappointed. Never heard about the Fallout series before that. I do own the Fallout Trilogy, but I don't have the patience to get used to the mechanics of the originals'.

Fallout 1 for the Mac, aaaaaaaaaages ago. (And, mirroring the modern versions, it was a resource hog that could grind your system to a halt. Heh. I actually didn't play it when it first came out, because the demo ran so freakin' slow on my then-current computer. Couple years later, I think.)

Tried Fallout 3 on a whim when I saw the roommate playing it (and watched him blow up Megaton), then started playing and never stopped :tops:

Same here unfortunately. I have tried to play them 3-4 times now for the sake of experiencing the whole series, but I just can't get past the obnoxious dated mechanics. If only I had played it back when the that was the standard for RPGs, I know I'm missing out on some awesome narrative / storyline.

Saw it on eBay for 20 bucks. With three DLCs.

Bought it, never looked back. Even picked up the isometric Fallouts, though I can't bring myself to put up with the combat in those oldies :P

Fallout 2 on its release year (played the first game later on). Saw my friend playing it and instantly got one for myself. At the time my current computer couldn't run it properly, but that never slowed me down. It's kinda funny how with all it's stuttering, buggyness and crashing (didn't have an internet connection to get patches then) it still became sort of a milestone game that offered such an experience I still compare other games to. And still playing it. :P

Got Fallout 3 in Jan. of 2009 at Target during post-Christmas sales for $30. Friends told me this RPG was NOT turn based, so I decided to give it a shot, and it turned out to be a great decision. :fallout:

I first played Fallout Tactics demo in 2001, then got all the Fallouts and became a hardcoe fan :)
I even managed to speedrun FO1 and FO2, though about one hour for each isn't probably the world record :P

Thats pretty much what happened to me. A friend convinced me to rent oblivion, i fell in love with it and played it a lot. I then saw that Fo3 was being developed by Bethesda, and since they made oblivion i figured it'd be worth buying. Needless to say it became my favorite game for a long time.

I downloaded the original fallout demo, with a small town and a mini quest. After managing to unlock a locked fridge and getting my hands a minigun and shooting one of the town gang members into bloody pieces with a "critical hit" I was hooked. Got the full game (still have the original spiral bound "Vault Dweller's Guide" manual) and was hooked ever since.

Played FO2, Tactics and Oblivion sometime in between. Got really hooked on Oblivion around the time the GOTY came out and the only cure for that obsession was when FO3 was released. I pre-ordered the Survival Edition from Amazon for the PS3 with the now-non-functional pipboy clock, downloaded all of the DLCs on the days of their respective releases, have the FONV currently preordered and the rest as they say is history...

Had read some article somewhere about this upcoming game in Fallout 1. As it seemed to be heavily inspired by PnP (which I played a lot at that time), it got me interested. Got the game a few weeks after it was released where I live and it blew me away completely.
Got Fallout 2 when it was released and was impressed with some things but didn't like how silly it felt.

Then the whole Interplay crapstorm started with the spin-offs. Didn't like either Tactics or the console game. I followed Van Buren silently at that time, and was mixed on it from what was revealed. I think it could've been a great game but had a lotta stuff which I didn't really care for (some of which is brought over to New Vegas). Followed the Fallout 3 development and was pretty disappointed with the entire direction they took the series in. When the game was released it ended up being pretty much what I expected though I did find the exploration more fun than I thought I would. But I don't find it to be a good entry in the Fallout series.

And now we have New Vegas. There are some things which I greatly look forward to, mainly the improved roleplaying, the tweaking of the rulesystem etc. And some other things which I kinda worry about (silly stuff in the setting similar to Fallout 2, the legacy of Fallout 3 weighing heavily upon it etc). Still, I'm quite looking forward to playing it.

We used to play GURPS back in the day, so whenever we heard about a game that was based of PnP mechanics, we'd get our hands on it. Back then, there were local shops that rented PC games for a pittance, so they were pretty easy to get ahold of.

My first Fallout experience was with Fallout 1's demo. If I recall correctly, it took place in one area of Junktown.

I was not yet fluent in English so some dialogue bits were a bit difficult to make out of. (Though playing Daggerfall while learning English did help a lot on this part)
So I spent more time killing off everyone in the area, including the poor brahmin, than doing the couple quests.

Like Derragorn, I was hooked when I found the minigun and started mauling everyone to death. My older brother than bought the game on its release, along with Fallout 2 when it got released.

Ironically, I didn't go far in Fallout 1 because, as mentioned above, there were a lot of dialogue bits that I didn't understand or that I misunderstood. So my favourite thing to do was to load my brother's save at the end of the game with the most powerful equipment, then cause rampage in every town. :D

My first Fallout Experience was when a friend sent me Fallout 1 and 2 as a birthday present (this was well after the games had come out, and only a little while after the rumours of a Fallout 3 started milling about.

Really, as soon as the Ink Spots kicked in with 'Maybe' while I watched Vault Boy wave happily at me before his Vault closed, it had me. Even though I find Fallout 1's time limit (while it is generous) stifling, Fallout 2 remains one of my favourite games to this day.

For me my first experience into fallout universo was with tactics, don't remmember were i got it but i got hooked on it so much that made me wish that would have given me more freedom to explore more than just doing mission than returning to base.
It was only later i found about that it was only a spinoff game and that there were 2 of them

Affter getting them made me even more of a fan but it made me miss the abillity to directly control ur companions, in tactics u could make these really cool ambushes

My buddy came back from SOI, and lived with me for a few months while he was getting squared away with a job/apartment (he was reserves). He was playing FO3 regularly... after he moved out, I saw it on the shelf at Wal*Mart and picked up a copy for PC. I already knew some about it from hanging out, watching him play, etc.

I just never liked gaming. I still don't, but Fallout is somehow.. different for me. I friggin' love this game. I can't really play other games, though. I think it's the freedom to do whatever that I like. I hate linear games with a passion. And since I'm a gun nut, the mods and the ability to use the GECK is friggin' sweet.
