I advanced a bit further in FONV and so far I like it. The writing is superior to Fallout 3's find your dad story imo, its more ambiguous and doesn't force the player to play the "good guy". The voice cast is better, I love the fact that even some robots have a personalized voice. The world is also an improvement: difficulty is somewhat tougher, settlements are richer, improved combat, reputations/traits are back, new crafting system, no more level scaling, no more crawling through endless metro tunnels, somewhat more dialogue & choices although it's still a choice between good/evil but better imo, factions (see reputation), etc.
In short it gives me that wasteland kinda feeling. Furthermore I experianced more of a quest related clueless feeling in the beginning of the game like the oldies. My major problem in FO3 was the shallow story, the autistic characters, the voice acting as well and a lot of other issues.
Besides the glitches there are a few things that were a bit awkward: 1) the Fallout 2 background music I heard sometimes, felt wrong in some areas and reminded me too much of FO2 not of a new game. 2) the karma system: penalties for stealing from hostile factions, huh??
It also took me a while to figure out how caravan worked. Even with the instructions, I was like what on earth is this?? Couldn't they just put a game of poker or blackjack in. But it's okay now that I finally understand the rules. Well I'm still in the middle of the game but it looks promising.
