As a game or as a Fallout game?
As a Fallout game then New Vegas.
As an RPGame then New Vegas.
Only thing Fallout 3 is good at is exploration.
BUT! Fallout 3 is a lot more polished than New Vegas was.
Still, if one can look past the bugs and the rushed parts (Legion :stare:) then New Vegas all the way.

I agree with u about the RPG and the Fallout game. I guess I like Fallout 3 because it kind of started it. I never played FO 1 and 2 so i guess that Fallout 3 was my starting point.

Sorry to say this but versus threads tend to get locked.
As they get heated, nasty and repetitive.

As for my opinion both, both are better than the other, as every FO does something unique for me.

Fallout: New Vegas for Story, Combat, Gameplay, Quests, and Setting. Fallout 3 for Exploration. Out of these two I pick FONV, but overall I'd choose FO2.

The exploration and immersiveness of FO3 was great.

I loved the ant wars in it.

Fallout 3 didn't make sense in a Fallout context. I get immersed by talking to people, and getting to know them. Fallout 3 didn't have people, it had comic book characters :/.

Fallout 3 is the winner for me. NV didnt do anything special enough that makes it better than fallout 3. The PS3 version is a joke and should never have been released in that state.

No. The "characters" were almost all awful to the point that one can't realistically refer to them as 'characters' at all. The dialogue was atrocious, there was no character development for just about anyone, and the entire population as a whole really just felt tacked as an afterthought. That's the largest problem with Fallout 3 (well, tied with the awful main quest line), the fact that the wasteland has next to no believable people that the protagonist can form any sort of connection with.

Back to the topic: New Vegas is a much better game unless you want to do nothing but explore. Hell, New Vegas is a better exploration game too if you have the PC version and tack some mods on. Better quests, better gameplay, better characters and dialogue, better.. well, everything.

To be fair, the voice acting talent is largely recycled in New Vegas, and it worked fine there (except for the guy who did Chet, who svcked). You can't blame voice actors for not being able to pull off lines as awful as the ones in Fallout 3.

Eh they're both good games. Lets just leave it at that and stop with these "what I think is better" threads. They don't get us anywhere anyway.

Well, it allows me to vent about the waste of potential that was Fallout 3. That's getting somewhere.

Prehaps.

But venting just doesn't seem to be productive. When people vent, then other people vent back with differing opinons. Eventually everybody is venting over something and it leads to arguments and often flaming.

We all have our opinions and its going to be really hard to change the mind of a Fallout 3 fan that his favorite game svcks. The same goes for a New Vegas fan.

Personally I think Fallout 3 was great. If only because I love its atmosphere and exploration. New Vegas was good too but I prefer Fallout 3 for my own reasons.

New Vegas for following reason in no real order.

hardcoe Mode
Damage Threshold
Reputation System
Iron Sites
Disguises
Better writing in every way
More joinable factions
Ability to talk my way out of killing for almost eveything
Alot of references to Original Fallouts
Multiple Endings that let me know what happens to the people and places
Its not Good vs Evil like FO3
Its more advlt Mature then FO3.

FO3 is full of plot holes and we are forced to be join the BoS.

Normally I can think of more but I am tired.

Aye and verily. Bethesda could have done SO MUCH with Fallout 3. They could have made a completely different game than Oblivion. They could have blown everyone away by making a whole new Fallout, a cry from the past, a forgotten series that revolutionized RPGs with the amount of depth, meaning, and freedom that was unseen in RPGs.

But they didn't.

They made a game exactly like Oblivion with the same engine, same bad writing, same voice acting, same lack of depth or meaning, and the game seems uninspired and only strives to be "epic". The game like Oblivion also focuses on "ambiance" and "exploration" and can only be very very loosely called a RPG.
