Fallout 4 feels immature

Post » Mon Jan 18, 2016 11:58 am

You nailed it on the head. I've noticed a discrepancy between New Vegas and FO4 writing, but could not put my finger on if it was writing quality or not. Now I know, it's not the writing quality that made me feel like NV was "better" when it really was so-so when it comes to plot, it was the fact that they weren't hesitant to bring up controversial subjects that would indeed be a real issue in the world of fallout, and thus helping create a believable and compelling setting.

You want to do writing for a developer? Yeah sounds like a reasonable career choice. Hope you'll handle criticism well atleast. Some day you might find yourself on a forum reading a post like this about your work, just a thought.

And i disagree with pretty much everything you say. Bethesda can indeed write good stories, and they build great worlds in terms of writing. Also why must everything be compared to The Witcher 3 now? It didn't set a new standard in writing. The Witcher 2 is superior in every way when it comes to the story.

As a male character I'm forced in to a homosixual relationship if I want to get all the perks of the game.

I pick up a hoker in Goodneighbor.

Sell a kid to a slaver.

Not sure in what way they are trying to gloss over things. If anything they seem to be trudging full speed ahead in a downward spiral, morality wise, in my opinion, which is what people are asking for, isn't it?

I will say, I seem to remember having more in depth quests in 3 and NV. Never played 1 and 2.

I haven't had to look up a single thing on the net to finish a quest in 4. That's something that has never happened to me for any game I have ever played. Hell, I had to take written notes for 3 and NV. I haven't even had to take a hacking perk. I just stopped hacking terminals any higher than novice and I was still able to complete the game. I have Cait as a companion and she picks the hard locks, and the ones that even she can't pick have the key laying near by or the lock is disengaged by a novice terminal.

So maybe all that says something about the game?

I wouldnt care if I knew I did good job. Id like to ask mr Pagliarulo if he is satysfied with his work done in Fallout 4.

All Witcher games have great stories. Wild Hunt is the same writing level whate W1 and W2 are, but set in an open world. My opinion. Played all the games in its original language.

Then ask him on his Twitter? I am pretty sure he is happy with the job he has done as the writing is mostly very good. The design choices on dialogue wheel however is something else.

The Witcher 3 plot -

Spoiler
Wild Hunt - My name is Eredin, i have 12 lines in the game. You need a Mary Sue to win, here she is. You know that thing that happened at the end of the first game? Oh we have to close that arc. Ciri run into the portal and stop it based on choices such as a snowball fight. Also Geralt doesn't remember the White Frost encounter with Jaques and Eredin.

That is good writing to you? Its a joke. Yes the dialogue is good, but the overall plot arc is so broken and so poorly done.

Witcher 3 has the best video game plot of 2015. I just dont see much sense in further argueing about this topic since the game won many prestige awards in Poland thanks to its script. And I dont mean video games awards but cultural ones.

I disagree, and you didn't answer what you think about the plot when its broken down that easily. I don't care if it has won awards, i was asking for your opinion.

Every plot can be broken down that easily dude, bunch of dudes trying to take an evil ring to a volcano to destroy it so big bad evil lord doesn't get to revive and take over the world. Amazing right?

Nope. Just get them to max affinity (you'll get a notice saying they idolize you). Then just pick any other response other than flirt when you talk with them. Perk unlocked.

Yeah me too, unfortunately since EA bought them we've had travesties like DA2 and ME3's ending. Still though they created 2 of my favorite games of all time BG2 and NWN, DA:O is up there aswell.

My opinion? Here you go; Witcher 3's example is how a video game plot should look like. Mature story, full of different kinds of emotions, characters that are able to make a real relationship with, set in a realistic, brutal and beliavable world, where side quests are not the type of 'go there, kill them' but separate little stories which purpose is to make the world and its standarts and rules closer to the gamer. It is the game where you will cry if Geralt's close friend dies. Main quest that keeps you wonder what will happen if you make next step. Its writing is masterpiece, that is my opinion.

BioWare is great!!

Yep when they sold their soul to the devil EA it was all down hill. Mass Effect until the very end was one of the best games to carry over all your choices, had a very good hard core SiFi story. That ending ruined the entire 3 games and I blame EA for it, yea I know most likely it was some puke at Bioware that thought it would be cool to flip us all off but i will forever blame EA :)

The problem is that.....

Fallout Series is in no way shape or form meant to be mature like your Witcher example Barth Victor Cherye.

Kinda feels pointless pointing that out in a thread where it was already pointed out.

I suppose its Bethsada's fault for having made Fo3 fairly dark and well the whole weapon degradation thing...Not to mention the modifications made for Fo3 by fans that helped along "survival gameplay elements" quite immensely but of course the vast majority of people reading what I wrote don't know anything about computer game mods right>?

So of course there are only a few million people who ever used a mod compilation such as FWE> Fallout Wasteland Wanderer.

MAybe at best 5% of the game audience really even know about actual modding.

Whole thread is meh...........

Fallout was never mature or something that people would ever consider to be high grade writing.

Actually i think it was the lead writer that wrote the ending without consulting anyone. He thought that he could make Shepard a character like Geralt, but most people indentified Shepard as their own and so it crashed and the ship went down in flames. Everyone hates EA though, for some reason.
