Fallout 4 Focusing more on Energy Weapons, and it's amazing

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 6:45 pm

I've always been an Energy weapons guy, I played with them only, I got all of the unique energy weapons and got my energy weapons skill to 100 and always made sure to use all things energy.

Energy weapons always felt underrated in the previous games, like they were not varied at all, they were just lacking in both quantity and quality, you get like 2 or 3 varieties of every energy weapon, like a laser pistol and rifle, a plasma pistol and rifle, and a machine gun of both kinds, but Fallout 4 feels like it has more variety and a better quality of energy wepaons, and that is looking great, especially the new moddable laser, plasma and cryo weapons, Oh and let's not forget the new Plasma Thrower!!! :ahhh:

I've always thought Energy weapons should be more focused on, because they feel like a niche thing, I've rarely seen any other game implemt energy weapons like fallout did, other games always focus on normal bullet shooting guns, except Fallout, and that's what made it unique in my opinion, futuristic weapons that just give you a really exciting rush.

Also, Fallout is set in a post-apocalyptic advanced world, where they had discovered Energy weapons, so shouldn't energy weapons be the next big thing, with more variety and better quality, instead of the lacking energy weapons we have?

We really do need more base types for energy weapons, not just Laser/Plasma/Cryo/etc, we need more variety for energy weapons in general, energy weapons have always felt left out and behind in terms of variety, quality and types, they need to give it it's much justice!

To me this sudden interest in energy weapons is really fantastic and it's really making me feel excited and happy, I can't wait to try all of the new energy weapons Fallout 4 has, I really want to use and play and mod every single energy weapon out there!

So discuss I guess?

I'm actually kind of worried that they're going to use this as an excuse to neglect energy weapons. For example, they could just leave us with a cryo-pistol, laser pistol, plasma pistol, and laser musket, leaving us with only 4 base energy weapons. It would be a shame if they left out classic weapons like the Winchester P94 plasma rifle, Gatling Laser, Glock 86 Plasma Pistol, etc.

Lets not forgot everyones favorite the gauss rifle, would be an amazing weapon to be able to modify.

Overall I think its really to early to tell the amount of energy weapons we will have available but I am sure the gatling laser will make a return. Im certain though we will have plenty of energy weapons to toy around with (maybe even some new ones). If thats not enough im sure they are more than willing to make some new badass energy weapons and slap in a DLC and charge you 20 dollars.

They may not be able to use brand name weaponry anymore simply due to legal issues. Don't look for the Winchester, Glock, or H&K brands in any games anymore.

It may be safe to say the Gatling Laser is in as tweeted by bethesda for the 4'th of July. Showed up on a museum mural.
As to the base weapons those can all be modified with shotgun variants, sniper variants, and automatic variants.

It's just a matter of making an http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/AKA47 then, like they've done in the past. Same gun, different name. The page actually points out that Fallout 1 inverted this, giving fake guns names from real manufacturers, rather than making a real gun and then changing the name.

Actually it was pretty senseless and pointless to do the AKA thing. Both the M4 and AK are "platforms" so to speak. Nobody has exclusive ownership of those. Many manufacturers in the U.S., Europe, and Russia (amongst others) have the ability to produce those.

Whereas "Winchester" is a "brand" so to speak.

The trope extends to more than those kinds of guns. The Hunting Shotgun is a Remington Model 870, for one example.

The New Canaanites use a Colt M1911, bring up its history, but never actually name it a Colt, with the game referring to it as a .45 Auto Pistol.

Commonwealth is probaly more advanced than the Legion, and hence the focus on energy weapons.

Was it not the guy from Railroad (Harkness I think) who gives you the most advanced plasma rifle in the game in Fallout 3?

umm no a number of games started that trend, goldeneye n64 also used that practice is suspect there games earlyer then 1997 that did it aswell.

but you are right fallout 1 helped create the practice and 1999 counterstrike made it mainstream.

Yep. A3-21's Plasma Rifle. Never touched it myself. Not particularly a fan of plasma weapons.

I hope that this isn't a zero sum game. I hope that the regular guns remain as diverse as they were in New Vegas while energy weapons get some much needed love.

Never claimed they started it. Just said that they did it and that they could do it again.

No offense taken. Just some mild confusion. I'm assuming you misread "inverted" as "invented" or something like that. Harmless mistake.

The lack of variety in FO3 and NV was quite noticeable. Some small, respectable steps toward fixing that were in New Vegas, but from the looks of things, Fallout 4 will go all out. I'm doing my first dedicated energy weapons character right now in NV in preparation; a scientist studying and affected by radiation. Looking forward to cobbling together some energy sniper rifles in FO4. Plasma sniper...laser sniper...cryo sniper...

Yep, very excited to get some new energy weapons, as variety has been seriously lacking. Hopefully they have fixed the persistent ash and goo pile problem this time around as well.

Needs more base energy weapons to begin with, and then allow for modifications. Just having the tiny amount they had in F3, as base weapons, and modifying them won't do for me. It's a cheap way out. So needs more base energy weapons.

Actually I am speaking in a broader term to try and unbind legal jargon and political nature.

Yes the New Canaanites used a Colt M11911. It is easier to name it a .45 Auto and use .45 ACP rounds. (Automatic Colt Pistol) but where it gets a bit murky is who actually owns specific rights to manufacture or utilize as an IP. Yes you have a Colt 1911 but you also have a "Kimber 1911" another manufacturer of notoriety. Bleh. As I said. It is just easier and more efficient from a game development standpoint to call it a .45 auto after the namesake round it fires. Even more so if said developers have limited knowledge of firearms.

As for the whole 1997 Era of gaming, Goldeye, ect. You are in a timeframe when "gaming" was vilified as much as owning a gun is both in that timeframe and today. Most gun manufacturers back then tried to keep as low a profile in that timeframe as possible. No need for a double whammy. I would be surprised if the old fallout team actually got permission to use the brand namesake in firearms for the original fallouts.
I find it amusing that Call of Duty and to a lesser extent Battlefield along with youtubers like FPSRUSSIA popularized firearms enough to get actual brands back into games. You see the "Honey Badger","MTS shotgun, and HCAR back in gaming. All of those have real world counterparts even for civilian sporting.

Yes, I think this is the main reason, considering the commonwealth's technological advancement over the wasteland, and I think they're the only place that makes androids if I'm not mistaken.

And yes Harkness (the android guy) gives you the most advanced, unique plasma rifle in all of the game

I said "rarely" not never, also Halo never appealed to me to be quite honest

I absolutely agree, the base energy weapons in both Fallout 3 and New Vegas are to be ashamed of, they're extremely lacking and that's a shame considering energy weapons are the next big thing and that the army mass produced them, yet we can only see a limited varieties of base energy weapons, even the DLCs didn't add alot of base energy weapons, truly disappointing on Beth's part

Yes, they are lacking, NV did fix this problem, but only a little bit, and yeah the goo and ash piles need fixing, they should learn from the modders in Nexus, especially EVE, they really did fix the ash and goo piles problem.

New Vegas did try to fix that, and they succeeded a little bit and I really applaud Obsidian for fixing the problem, even if they didn't completely fix it, they still tried and did a good job.

and I really can't wait to see the new energy weapon varieties in Fallout 4, especially looking forward to the Cryo weapons and the Plasma Thrower, but they should absolutely add more varieties than these two only, I want to see new and fascinating base energy weapons, I can't wait to do my next scientist/energy weapons character and mod my weapons like hell!

I can't wait to mod all of the new energy weapons, I absolutely love the new weapon modding system, adds alot of variety and flavor to already existing base weapons, but still, that doesn't mean making less base energy weapons

I should give a try. To be honest, I would even say it is a joke to compare the two games in terms of e. weapons. ALL guns in Halo behaves differently from each other. For example the needler x plasma rifle.

Anyway, I'm glad this time other studios are involved in gunplay of this Fallout.

Given how diverse the crafting system is/looks, I feel confident we'll be seeing a variety of weapons that maintain viability. I really do wish they had kept the various ammunition types though.

I hope we have more energy weapons, I've always used bullet weapons and would like to see a better viability with energy weapons in a fallout game.
